I'm from Canada and as you may or may not know cannabis has been legal in Canada for 6 years. However I just saw an interesting news article that may answer some of the questions regarding the attempts to reverse the cannabis laws in Thailand. The headline reads: "Weed drinks set up turf war between alcohol and cannabis industries" I suspect the alcohol industry in Thailand maybe concerned about losing the share of the pie. Alcohol distributors and marijuana companies both want a lucrative stake in the market.

The Prime Minister has talked too much to American politicians about their war on drugs. Thailand should not be influenced by America. And also not destroying a flourishing industry through foreign influence

It's not a war on drugs. It's a war on the people. They care not for the people. They only care for those that pay them a nice big backhander. They all need their bank accounts investigating preferably by someone that isn't profiteering

War on drugs? That was decades ago when Reagan was President. "just say no" 😂 Marijuana is legal in many US states. Also burglary, shoplifting, murder, and assault etc... It's anarchy now.

@@genestone4951 i agree with you on that one.. its a flawed system to start with. Already Socrates realized that when it was invented. And he worried mostly about demagougues and the incompetence of the masses to act in their long term interest. Today the rise of a capitalist economy that promotes greed and selfishness got the problems with democracy to a whole new level.

The money Thailand generate from increased tourism alone should out weigh the loss from alcohol industry.
Thailand just need to better regulate the use of cannabis so that little kids won’t be able to get high. Treat it like alcohol and tobacco

Do you really visit a country because their cannabis is legal? Just go visit Canada then. While you are there you can get cocktail of lethal drugs in Vancouver. Free.

You are absolutely right! This bs going on in Thailand was the decision making to move to Philippines after 25 years in Thailand! And is not only the cannabis discussion is many other things no more!

@@valentineotto1099Very illegal there. Philippines is tough on drug use. When Duterte was president he killed many drug dealers, users and probably some random people who were thought to be drug dealers.

The ‘Law’ was introduced out of the blue, it was never passed in Parliament, no reason why it can’t be revoked in a similar way ?

When you open the doors to your state province or country by allowing open drug use you sadly attract a lot of bad actors that think there are no laws to obey. Zero tolerance should be the way forward.

If cannabis is successfully legislated back to a "narcotic" status, will Thai legislators tell the Thai public/voters specific reasoning for doing so? Meaning, this decision to "reclassify" recreational use is based on increased health issues, crime, foreigners taking cannabis jobs away from Thai citizens, disrupting Thai alcohol industries, or perhaps just the "annoying" smell?
