Be sure to check out the BookLoft if you're ever in CBus! It really is awesome. Notice how I went step 1.. 2.. 4.. and then just no more steps? Yeah, my attention span is not great.
My favourite store used to be "Dark They Were And Golden Eyed" in Soho London it was 100% fantasy/science fiction and a major comic book store...its been closed now for nearly 30yrs but by God when it was open it had everything and quite often some of its customers were mind-blowing... There`s a huge connection between the store and another of my fave bookstores "Forbidden Planet" as the founder Nick Landau was often seen inside,he went on the found "Forbidden Planet " and was a huge influence in making "2000AD" a success as editor..
I will unfortunately agree with this. I've been an above average reader for decades, but not so much anymore. I buy so many books and with a deteriorating attention span I find myself reading less and less. I hate it honestly.
Just getting back into reading myself, I'm working on Elantris currently yet I have all of Brandon Sanderson works lined up next, have 11 books coming Wednesday through Amazon and am working on collecting wheel of time. So yeah I'd say you're totally right haha
The Book Loft will always hold a special place in my heart. My boyfriend took me there on our first date because he knew I loved reading. Such a beautiful if not at times frightening (when you walk down the narrow and very steep staircases) place.
If you love this place, then I invite you to check out Powell's Books in Portland, OR if you're ever in the neighborhood. It fills an entire city block and has it's own parking. Three stories, rare book archive on the top floor. It's...life changing if you love books as much as me. lol. And still independently owned, too. it's not part of any of the big box publisher-run outlets like B&N.
Powell’s is on my book store bucket list!! I live insanely far away so I don’t know when I will be able to visit, but I know that I will at some point haha.
If you ever make it to Portland Oregon, you need to visit Powell books. Over 1.6 acres of retail space (it takes up an entire city block with multiple floors), over a million books on the shelves. An amazing place to visit if you love books.
IDK man I still prefer the sci fi bookstore in Gothenburg, Sweden. It has a coffee shop inside that bakes pastries based on books, films, TV shows and games where you can sit and read or play games with a 5 stories high ceiling with a fantasy banner on it and the coffee shop is named after Sirius from Harry Potter. It has a dragon painted on the wall to the basement. It has an elevator that looks like the TARDIS and when you ride it it sounds like the TARDIS taking off and landing. It has a life size xenomorph. It has everything a geek could ever want from fantasy door mats to kids first Halloween monster book. There's comic books and manga and everything else. Half a million books and a lot of rooms sounds cool and all but I'll stick with mine.
I live right down the street, and take all of my friends and family to this store. Before my father passed, we made some great memories here. This is one of Columbus's gems. Also recommend Winans Coffee and Chocolates just up the street by Schiller Park after sating your book needs.
Saw you are from and moving back to VA. Me too. If you happen to be from or near Northern VA (Manassas), then you need to get to McKays books. It’s amazing. They even have a few cats that wander around the store.
Thanks for sharing! My family and I sometimes drive up to Columbus from Cincinnati (Where my grandparents live). I will for sure check out this book store the next time I am there! If you ever find yourself in the PNW make sure you visit Powell's Book Store in Portland, OR. That book store is the biggest one I have ever been in and it is beautiful.
Just went here a few weeks back! No idea Daniel made a video on it. Can't wait for another visit!

This place looks amazing! :) When I visited the USA I found Powell's Bookstore in Portland to be also a great place, not just because it is huge but all the people working and shopping there were nice and we just randomly started talking about some authors, series and it was a happy place. I traveled to the USA from Europe and spent almost a whole day at that store... When I'm near this place I will make sure to check it out thanks for showing.
I went to school in Columbus and just moved back a couple months ago. The Book Loft is BOMB. I'll definitely visit again once things are less... corona-y.
Know it's a bit of a stretch but if you're ever in Jacksonville Florida look up Chamblins book mine it's a store just like this but they're all mostly second hand. I prefer new copies myself but is still always a treat to walk in, smell it and find a new book/series while surrounded by books.
I went there last fall with my mom - taking my aunt and my kids there in a few weeks. LOVE the Book Loft! We also love the German restaurant (Schmidt's) that isn't too far away, too. Makes a perfect day - books, German food, then more books! :) Means you'll have to come back to OH more often now, right? :) Ha!!! (I'm just outside of Cincinnati, so it's a good short weekend trip.) Side note - bought my Mistborn trilogy there! :) First intro into Brandon Sanderson!
We had a bookstore similar to The Book Loft here in Tucson, but unfortunately it closed about 18 years ago or more. It wasn’t as big as yours, but it had the maze of rooms and wonderful selection, knowledgeable staff and great atmosphere. We don’t have many bookstores left here compared to when I moved here 28 years ago. I get a lot of my books from Amazon because I can no longer drive, but I miss being able to spend the day checking out bookstores and browsing the shelves for that surprise gem.
My family is on vacation right now, and I had us go to the book loft on your recommendation. It was an awesome experience! Thanks for the recommendation, it was well worth the stop!
Quite envious of this! I can't remember the last time I've seen something like this here in the UK. most we have are the Waterstones chains (which are great, but they are a chain, and lack some soul.) You sometimes find a wonderful used book shop, but given space is a premium on this small island they are tiny and you often worry about a book avalanche, though I must any I do love those gems, it would be amazing to have one like this somewhere near me!
The brattle book shop in Boston is amazing, it is one of the oldest bookstores in American, and the guy who owns (who is a family friend) is the guy who apprizes books on antiques roadshow,
There's something oddly satisfying about those minutes you filmed in the bookstore (without voiceover). And featuring those shelves of books, that's aMAZEing (sorry, couldn't resist). Never been to Columbus (or Ohio for that matte). Would definitely consider making the trip, even if it was just to visit the Book Loft. Nice video!
No way! I discovered this place a few months back with my girlfriend, and it actually sparked my interest in reading again for the first time in years which eventually lead me to your channel! No joke
Awesome looking bookstore! Not very many of those around these days it seems, but when they are they are most definitely gems! Edward McKay’s in Greensboro, NC is like that for me. When I lived in Washington State and would visited my grandparents, lived in Vancouver, WA, we would travel down to Portland, OR and go to Powell’s Books.
Never knew it was that big, i live a good bit away sadly so I've only been to Columbus a few times when going to the museum. defiantly gonna have to head here next summer.
My gf and I have lived in Columbus for 5+ years, both love sci-fi and fantasy (including a ton of books you talk about on your channel!), and we wouldn't believe we just went to the Book Loft for the first time last month. It is INSANE. I recommend any fans of any sort of book stop in even to just look around (but don't buy the special editions I want...) :)
I also live in Dublin and love making the trip down to the Book Loft! The Half Price Books on Lane is also amazing and a bit of a maze to me but not nearly to the same extent as the Book Loft! I’m a newer subscriber and very excited to learn of a TH-camr so close by!
Where I Live in Nova Scotia, Canada we have a wonderful bookstore called Chapters. It is not as big as your bookstore, but it is still amazingly beautiful & I feel @ home there. Thank you for showing us your favorite bookstore.
LOVE that place! When I get down for an ATC Shakespeare play in Schiller Park, I stop in, 3 GREAT coffee places a block or two up either way also. Love German Village
I love Book Loft! Wish I could get down there more but I hate driving in Columbus. If you’re ever in the Polaris area (fairly close to Dublin) stop in the Barnes & Noble up there! Amazing bookstore! Wish I had one like that one in my country(middle Europe). Btw if you ever go to Paris, you HAVE TO go to Shakespeare and Company, that si trully the most beautiful bookstore with the richest history in the world! Dark wood shelves packed with books, old furniture, nice people, a special place for writers/readers(more writers tho where anyone can stop by and just write), an antique book section with possibly the most amazing collection in the world(first edition of The Little Prince with the original hand drawn cover for €15k or Joyce's Ulysses with a personal note to his friend if im not mistaken for €20k are two random examples). If you liked the book loft, may I suggest The Book Barn in Connecticut? It has three different locations on the same street, ponds and cats and cute little bridges, good prices and kind people. Each building has its own genre. There’s a spooky looking mystery/horror shack, the history books feel like you’re in a museum archive, the children’s section is awesome. HIGHLY recommend
Looks lovely! I will visit if I'm ever in the area. My favorite book stores are The Strand in New York City and Recycle Bookstore in San Jose, California.
When I lived in Austin in the late 90s my favorite place was Book People -- four stories of books and magazines -- thousands and thousands of titles! And I could literally make an entire day out of being there just exploring and doing a little sample reading and have a pastry and a coffee in the little nooks and crannies ... Man, I miss those days.
Never went. I was/is a dedicated Half-Price Books person and would regularly visit several of them in the Columbus area...mostly the Lane Ave. store near OSU. The OSU library is a nice place to get lost as well...maybe not for fiction but for a book lover.
For a combination of charm, coziness, and spectacular surrounding scenery, I recommend the Macdonald Bookstore in Estes Park, CO. It's a family-owned business that has been in the heart of town on Elkhorn Avenue for over a century.
Assuming it ever becomes safe to travel again, I might just have to visit Columbus,OH! If you ever make it to Portland, OR, you NEED to check out Powell's City of Books. Similar vibe.
I'll have to check it out next time we're down there. Columbus is only about 90 minutes from me (what up from Wadsworth, Ohio) and we have a lot of family down there.
Great video and great book store Daniel. Thanks for making a video encouraging the support of the brick and mortar bookstores we don't want them to disappear. Leave the house to buy your books damnit !!! If you're ever in NYC ,The Strand is the place for you buddy.
I love the maze-like quality of the bookstore and the pleasing artwork on their merch. It's a good thing I don't live in your area, as you would find me permanently living at The Book Loft.
You are blessed to have such a great store to go to. My town has a Books-A - Million and it use to be a lot better but now just seams to carry the big sellers. Want Stephen King or George RR Martin they got you covered. Anything else , good luck. I'll be 66 soon so I've just been buying Kindle books for my Oasis. Nobody to leave my library to so may as well buy kindle. Now I'm depressed. Frack !! 😜
I am really jealous to all of you who live in a English speaking country. I prefer to read English over Dutch and I really want to go to bookstore like this one but The English section is usually pretty small and has almost to completely no fantasy books. I liked this video!! keep it up!
Nice! I love that you are giving a signal boost to a brick and mortar book store. I have one vlogging suggestion. When you are using your phone, try to look at the camera and not at yourself on the screen. Otherwise it feels like you are talking to someone over my shoulder.
Anytime I schedule a trip back to Columbus, my wife makes sure that we make it back to the Book Loft. Some of my favorite memories from living in Columbus were made just wandering around the store with friends looking for a new book.
Be sure to check out the BookLoft if you're ever in CBus! It really is awesome.
Notice how I went step 1.. 2.. 4.. and then just no more steps? Yeah, my attention span is not great.
Daniel Greene if you ever take a trip to Europe there are many great libraries and bookstores to visit

That yellow book behind you at 4:33 , Kill the Farm boy. You should check it out sometime. You like absurdism.
My friend took me there when I visited (didn't know you, too, lived in Ohio). Great place.
Step 3 is for chumps.
Reading books and buying books are two entirely different hobbies
I will unfortunately agree with this. I've been an above average reader for decades, but not so much anymore. I buy so many books and with a deteriorating attention span I find myself reading less and less. I hate it honestly.
My 6 foot tall tbr pile agrees with you.
Just getting back into reading myself, I'm working on Elantris currently yet I have all of Brandon Sanderson works lined up next, have 11 books coming Wednesday through Amazon and am working on collecting wheel of time. So yeah I'd say you're totally right haha
SO TRUE!!!
Nothing send me brain to overdrive than seeing shelves of books.
I might just travel to America just for that store
I want to move out there forever!!!!!
Same
me too
Me too
Me too
I miss bookstores like these, I could get lost in them for days ❤️
The Book Loft will always hold a special place in my heart. My boyfriend took me there on our first date because he knew I loved reading. Such a beautiful if not at times frightening (when you walk down the narrow and very steep staircases) place.
This is tooooo cute 😭
Damn he a keeper
Marry that chad

I didn't know B&N was still around! Kind of assumed it went out of business ages ago.
I always stop at Powell's every time I visit Portland. The most amazing bookstore I've ever been in.
Barnes & Noble are still around, it's Borders that went out of business 10 years ago
Powell’s is on my book store bucket list!! I live insanely far away so I don’t know when I will be able to visit, but I know that I will at some point haha.
I wish I had more independent book stores like this where I live
If you ever make it to Portland Oregon, you need to visit Powell books. Over 1.6 acres of retail space (it takes up an entire city block with multiple floors), over a million books on the shelves. An amazing place to visit if you love books.
I live an hour away from Columbus. Looks like I'm taking a trip in the very near future.
Why do you do this to me Daniel. Now I wanna go there.
I wish booktubers made more videos talking about their favorite bookstores and not just the super popular ones. I love this!
Johnathan Strange and Mr. Norell is an amazing book and I hope you enjoy it! Totally worth all 1,000 pages and the footnotes add so much to the story.
Came for the reviews and was pleasantly surprised to find a neat book store/date spot in hometown! Thanks!
Found your book on the front page under best sellers for a local bookstore's website. Very surreal as I immediately recognized the cover. Congrats!
Not going to lie but I'm kind of jealous. This bookstore looks fantastic :O
An entire shelf of Dresden. They are doing it right!
Happy to spot James A S Corey. I know that’s SciFi but still great reading.
Great series though

Crazy!!
I an actually getting ready to move to Columbus!! Can't wait to check this out.
One year later, how was your visit??

I enjoy these vlogs to the bookstore. Greetings from Mexico.
I've been there a few times. I've really enjoyed the experience!

This is also my favorite bookstore. My daughters and I discovered this years ago. We all go there any time we’re in Columbus.
Amazing shop. We don't have much close to it in the Toronto area anymore
I also live in Dublin and love making the trip down to the Book Loft!
The Half Price Books on Lane is also amazing and a bit of a maze to me but not nearly to the same extent as the Book Loft!
I’m a newer subscriber and very excited to learn of a TH-camr so close by!
I’ve never wanted to visit Columbus until now! 😅
This place looks amazing. The tight coziness of the mountain of books... I wish I had something like this near me.
I used to live in Columbus, Ohio for ten years and visited The Book Loft many a time. It’s one of my favorite places in the world.
Where I Live in Nova Scotia, Canada we have a wonderful bookstore called Chapters. It is not as big as your bookstore, but it is still amazingly beautiful & I feel @ home there. Thank you for showing us your favorite bookstore.
Hey another Columbus local! its a great place!
Just heard of this place. Have to make the drive from central Kentucky soon!
It is like a maze omg, so disorientating, but it is like a mecha of bookstores. I would love to visit it some day! I also applaud the people that work in that store for being able to know where everything goes lol. Having worked in bookstores i would totally get lost in that place lol.
Amazing bookstore! Wish I had one like that one in my country(middle Europe).

Book Loft is an amazing local bookstore tho, without too many people to stress you out and pressure you, so as a pure local practical bookstore, I have to say Book Loft seems perfect!
If you ever find yourself in NYC, you absolutely have to visit The Strand. It’s one of my favorite places in the entire city and heaven for any book lover.
Damn right. Impossible to be a book lover in NYC and not bought from the Strand before.
The Strand is my favorite bookstore.
If you liked the book loft, may I suggest The Book Barn in Connecticut? It has three different locations on the same street, ponds and cats and cute little bridges, good prices and kind people. Looks lovely! I will visit if I'm ever in the area. My favorite book stores are The Strand in New York City and Recycle Bookstore in San Jose, California.
I’m actually not horribly far from Columbus and go there at least a few times a year so I’m definitely gonna have to check this store out! 😊
I love the look of that neighborhood. Something about old brick appeals to me.
i went there on my birthday a few years ago and i’ve wanted to go back ever since. it’s such a magical place.
Just moved to Cinci. Might need to make a day trip!
Been going there since I could drive. The Author events they have are fantastic as well.
I never knew you were close to Columbus Ohio. I should totally check out this place.
I am in LOVE! I could get lost in there FOREVER!
Awesome. I will look into it to see if I can visit it soon. Any ideas of any in the Dallas and Plano area? I live in Frisco
Reminds me somewhat of the library basement in Ghostbusters!
Loved the bookstore tour and love your UMW shirt!!
Never went. I was/is a dedicated Half-Price Books person and would regularly visit several of them in the Columbus area...mostly the Lane Ave. store near OSU. The OSU library is a nice place to get lost as well...maybe not for fiction but for a book lover.

Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, nice! I'm halfway through the audiobook at the moment.
Me too! (but I have the physical book). I love it
Great video and great book store Daniel. Thanks for making a video encouraging the support of the brick and mortar bookstores we don't want them to disappear. Leave the house to buy your books damnit !!! If you're ever in NYC ,The Strand is the place for you buddy.

Yo I LOVE the Book Loft! Only went there once during a trip to Columbus years ago but its soooooo cool. Its like wandering a maze.
I lived in C-bus for 6 years, and yeah, that place is heaven.
Going to guess Bookloft....love that place.
I swear it wasn’t obvious by the thumbnail when I said this lol
Please tour again, very slowly. I can't wait to visit this place one day.
I like this style of video. More vlog style videos like this would be appreciated!
This is GREAT!!!! Anytime I travel I always check out the local bookstores. Book hunting is a great hobby 😍😍 This place looks phenomenal
Fun video - thanks man!!
I am over here on the Indiana side of the line and I may have to check out the Book Loft. Very nice. Second of all - Companion - Cute as a button.
it looks amazing! and what a great collection :D
Many many many countless hours have been spent in the Book Loft when I lived in Columbus. Never left without a new book. Absolutely love the place.
As a Columbus native (although Philadelphia-based for the past 6 years), it's nice to see some love for my city.
Anytime I schedule a trip back to Columbus, my wife makes sure that we make it back to the Book Loft. Some of my favorite memories from living in Columbus were made just wandering around the store with friends looking for a new book.
I love the Book Loft. I need to go there on my next day off work. Not that it is a far drive, I just can't leave once I get there.
I moved to Columbus for school and picked up The Way of Kings here. What a wonderful trip that was.
What a wonderful book to get!
Such a great store! It's been way too long since I've been back to the Book Loft. I need to road trip up from Cincy and remedy that!
