    Bigger more vibrant display AND and extra HOUR of play at peak brightness?! That is excellent, as long as burn-in doesn't become a thing this is the definitive switch version.

    • @Msf1011
      @Msf1011 3 ปีที่แล้ว +51

      I don't think it'll be a major problem. I didn't know that my phone even had an OLED screen for 3 years and it has no burn-in issue whatsoever! I think only serious negligence will cause that. If you just use it normally, turn it off when you're not using it, chances should be very low of getting burn-in.

    • @souptime_mp4
      @souptime_mp4 3 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      Screen burn-in typically only happens when you have a device on and aren't interacting with it. It's like if you had one screen on and left it there for hours upon hours it would eventually burn-in. Nintendo counters this by having an auto-sleep feature when you don't interact with your switch for a few minutes or so (customizable time I think). The only logical way I could see a burn-in happening was if you left your game on the main menu or any menu in handheld mode with auto-sleep off for HOURS. I think it would take around a full day of leaving it on a menu honestly. If you keep that auto-sleep feature on and or shut off your switch when you're done, I wouldn't worry about it to be honest.

    • @ReLoadXxXxX
      @ReLoadXxXxX 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@souptime_mp4 A full day? Lmao. not how it works. And all that matters is screen time accumulation, doesn't matter if it's 12 hours in a row or 12 hours spread out over a week. It's 12 hours.

    • @dinkelbroetchenlover
      @dinkelbroetchenlover 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@souptime_mp4 it isn't about how long at a time, it's a general thing; OLED pixels will "wear off", which means that areas in the display that typically display lighter pictures will wear off earlier (that's why phones usually get the notication bar burn in)
      if you play one game with a fixed UI for an extented period of time it'll burn it, doesn't matter whether you switch to the home screen from time to time or not.

Since i have got my switch oled (dec 24/21) I have yet to use the dock. When I first bought the switch (V1), I thought I would only play on the TV and anyone who said they only played handheld where lying. Now I realize what Nintendo was trying to do, and its genius!

    Interesting test, it confirm that brightness has less of an effect on battery on IPS LCD than on OLED. Think it was because even at low brightness all pixel had to be lit on OLED unless completely black, while IPS LCD because it use one backlight source for whole panel the brightness affect battery more. But if you test in dark mode or in scenes with lots of complete black OLED will save even more battery.

    What about if you play a darker game with more blacks like Diablo 3, Amnesia or Outlast. I may be wrong but an oled illuminates the pixels individually so when there is black on the scrin that portion consume lese power. Of corse in a very colorful game there would not be many differences but I would like to see the same comparison in a darker game. Get 2 versions of Outlast and stay in the front of the hospital. There are some light from the lamps but is quite dark. A good example would also be the hero creation/selection from Diablo 3.

    • @thommohawk1216

      This. Definitely worth mentioning the per pixel lighting vs backlight. His test obviously meant all the pixels were fully lit up the whole entire time so we can realistically add time to the OLED version. In fact I've read if anything on average the OLED version lasts about 30 minutes longer than the others due to the way OLEDs switch pixels off to get those perfect blacks.

    I would be even more interested in a darker game, as the scene you had was pretty bright - OLED really flourishes on darker games.... with lots of black areas.

    A test for maximum vs minimum brightness with everything else at maximum (or minimum) would be good to understand exactly how much the brightness affects it (if at all).

    been using my switch with both lights and sound at low, around four clicks for the volume from zero. this video gave me confidence to bump it up a bit more, around 4ths of the whole bar. thanks for the comparison! I just wish that I've searched for this topic a lot sooner.
    Anyone that has experience on the screen burns? Around what moment did it appear, and what's your average brightness level?
