  • Colon Cancer Weird Symptoms (& Why They Occur)
    PLEASE NOTE: The bacteria that causes endocarditis and bacteremia in Colon cancer is streptococcus bovis or streptococcus gallolyticus NOT staphylococcus (as written in the slide). Sorry for the confusion!
    Colorectal carcinoma (Colon Cancer) is the 3rd to 4th most common type of cancer, that is more likely to occur in older patients, those with a family history of colorectal cancer and in those with a history of inflammatory bowel disease. Colon cancer causes a variety of signs and symptoms, including weird and atypical findings we don’t often think about. In this lesson, we discuss what these “weird” signs and symptoms are and why they occur.

    Severe abdominal pain was my first symptom. Then, I had the changes in bathroom habits, blood in the stool, and fatigue. I had a colonoscopy in April 2019, the Dr. found 2 polyps. One benign and one malignant. At that point, I didn't know what stage I was. I went a month later to have a pet scan. It was revealed that it was metastatic colon cancer to my liver. I had chemo, surgery, and more chemo. I'm very thankful to be here!

      I’m happy for you appreciating your life. I was involved in horrific automobile accident. I was a passenger in front seat. I was put in coma from head injuries, fractured skull and concussion and various other injuries. It’s thrilling when you believe you’re going to make it. I had painful migraines for 3 years everyday. Once I would finally throw up, and lose my vision for a few minutes or an hour relief would come for a couple hours and slowly the pain would come back. But I almost lost my left eye. The pain is such a drag. When your health returns it is monumental joy!! I lost 7 teeth and that was a constant battle of pain… saving money, getting some help etc but having your family, friends, etc helps so much. The hospital bills, doctor & dental bills 😮😢are crushing.

    Wish I knew these symptoms before but it's too late now when I (51 y/o female) got diagnosed ( Stage 4) last July 2023 after a colonoscopy (a day after my birthday). I was admitted into the hospital pronto, from there a death sentence result. Here I am still alive and breathing. Jesus sounds so weak, so callous, so small.
      You'd think an all powerful creature would spare children, infants, and the elderly from suffering.
      Maybe he's too weak to help everyone, or does he have a strange plan where infants need to suffer.
      Oh yeah, infants, children too bad, Jesus got a plan, you cry and suffer. Ouch....

    I waited a year before seeking help. I had symptoms bloody stool. Excruciating pain. Hours on the toilet. I. Went to my GP who sent me to a surgeon. He took samples and called the next day to confirm what I already knew. He told me the protocol for this type of cancer. A clostomy and remove of a section of bowel. Told him that I could not do that and he sent me another dr. doing research in this area. He brought me into hospital and performed braci therapy. That was over 25 years ago and I have been free.

    Another cancer-related cause of abdominal distension is ascites: the buildup of fluid in the abdominal cavity itself. This happens because there might be one or more cancer tumors within the abdominal cavity (but outside of the organs) that are secreting fluids into the abdominal cavity. Yes, this CAN happen in colorectal cancer, if it has metastasized into the abdominal cavity.

    Friends, please get in there and get a colonoscopy as soon as you are old enough for your health insurance to cover it. The procedure is really not a big deal.
    I believe many health plans will actually pay for the whole screening, with no copay. It is just that important to them, and I am sure that their actuaries have calculated the risk of having to pay for cancer treatments vs colonoscopies.

    I saw one gastroenterologist so far. H wouldn't let me talk and insisted that they don't do colonoscopies without sedation. My previous regular doctor walked out on me when I said I read that a colonoscopy can be done without sedation. Do I really have to be given the sedation? I have a phobia of needles and I don't want to be drugged up after the scope comes out and can I watch what is happening on a screen while the scope is in??

    • @Rita_g678

      My first time getting one the Dr told me that he preferred I stay awake during my colonoscopy so that I could answer a few questions that he may have. It's called Awake Sedation. And the pressedure really isn't that bad, but you feel some pressure that's it. And that was in early 2000. I had one last year well actually it was an Endoscopy Colonoscopy 2 different pressedures done at same time, but the Dr a different Dr. Argued me and said that he had never in his 20 odd years of practice ever heard such as having it done awake, and ignored my request to be awake, and so I was put to sleep and I was terrified but had it done anyway And Had trouble waking up from it, It scared my family because they tried waking me to no avail but later I woke up and I was unaware of anything, but I came around that evening still scared I was. But my next one I definitely don't want to be put to sleep if at all possible I want to be aware and have a Awake Sedation. Because that showed me and my family that I definitely couldn't be put to sleep. Even though I don't remember.

      @@Rita_g678 Why would you want "Awake sedation" instead of No Sedation - no needles, no drugs. I might acquiesce to a numbing agent around the opening of my anus if such a thing exist. Is endoscopy a scope down your mouth into your stomach? Isn't that too horrifying? The one gastroenterologist-in-training I saw about 6 years ago wanted me to do both but I didn't do it because when was in the supervising gastro doctor's office he wouldn't let me talk again after mentioned that I read that its possible to do a colonoscopy without sedation. He said "no, this is the way they do it everywhere, my sister lives in New Jersey, they do the same thing in New Jersey, they do the same thing everywhere you go!"

      They will likely want an IV whether they sedate you or not, just in case. Nobody likes to do a procedure without getting that IV just in case you need medicine they didn’t plan on at first. That way they don’t have to wait to start an IV to give it to you.
      I used to be very afraid of needles. It’s hard to face that fear, but you can do it. Just tell them that you are really scared of needles and ask for their best nurse to start the IV. Then turn away so you’re not looking at it. If you need to, tense up the arm they aren’t using and keep the other one as relaxed as possible. They will pull the needle out after they know they got the right spot and just leave a little plastic tube in the vein, so even though the IV will be there the metal will be gone.
      The needle thing is a separate issue from staying awake during the procedure, but if you are at all nervous I recommend sedation because you’re going to need to hold still. In the US for sedation for colonoscopy they generally use midazolam, which will make it so you don’t remember stuff for a while, and some kind of opiate. Most people sleep through it. When you wake up your memory won’t be very good at first so you might be confused, but that will wear off.

      @lyutsin21 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Fireandbubbles Oh my god! I don't want to see or feel any needles unless it is really necessary. Except that it is not necessary because I haven't seen any convincing proof that the laws of physics prevent a colonoscopy scope from going into your rear end unless you have a piece of plastic injected into your arm and drugs injected into you. I want to be awake, like as awake as I am now and watching what is happening on a screen and able to converse with the doctors. Then I want to find out the results, put my clothes back on, and drive myself to work and finish my day not drugged up. I don't like loosing and being treated like another sheep in the drugs and colonoscopy assembly line and being coerced into getting needles and drugs I don't want. What I want is, if they think I need the drugs, they keep that idea to themselves and just force themself to proceed while acting like they know that I am smart for asking for the only thing that makes any sense, acting like they passed acting class.

    • @Fireandbubbles
      @Fireandbubbles 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@lyutsin21 it is the doctor’s job to offer the best treatment they can for you, even if it isn’t what you want. If they are worried that what you want might get you hurt, then it’s their job not to do the thing that might get you hurt. If they think you might move around during the scope, they aren’t going to do it without sedation because they don’t want to perforate your colon.
      If this is for cancer screening, Cologuard might be a better choice for you. You would get a box sent to your home, provide a stool sample, and mail it to the lab for testing. If it’s negative it’s good for three years. No bowel prep, no sedation, all you have to do is put a thing over your toilet, poop in it, pour a stabilizer over it, then close the lid to the jar and box it up for shipping. Downside is that if it’s positive you’ll need the colonoscopy to determine what’s going on in there, but if negative it’s good for three years.
