I will say, Wicked is very intentional about race and facism. At first glance it may look crazy but the play is supposed to teach you that elphaba is not the evil one but it’s Glinda and it’s made very clear throughout the play. Elphaba is judged by others because she is visibly different and Glinda is hoisted up as the good witch, the entire point of the play is to embrace differences and to combat facism. In the plays, elphaba has mostly been played by white women and Cynthia was an intentional choice bc so many black girls can relate to feeling different and ostracized based on how they look, especially dark skinned women. You don’t have to watch the movie but doing research will help you to understand why she was a good choice and as a theater nerd, being in a musical or theater production can make you so fucking dramatic I’m not surprised Cynthia and Ariana are so close bc that’s common within musical theater spaces. You grow close with the people you work with.
I love your channel but you need to watch the movie bc looks are deceiving. This movie dove deep into prejudice, slavery, and political corruption. It was very revolutionary. Cynthia didn’t play angry at all, but very resilient. It was giving Harriet vibes frfr. And I was VERY ready to hate this movie bc of how irritating they’ve been during promo. But this was almost like the matrix where it just APPLIED perfectly to today
They both look sick. People forget the original. Wizard of oz, the set was a nightmare for the actors on that set. They casted ariana since she has a huge fanbase and they know it would bring in the numbers. Black people need to direct and film their own movies whether animated, fiction or non fiction and have more positive roles

As great of a film as Black Panther was Michael B Jordan said playing Killmonger was tiring on his mental. He had to separate himself from the rest of the cast to get his character feeling right, but it drained him. But Hollywood keeps making films where the black woman is hyper aggressive and non feminine and the black man is this pseudo masculine archetype because black people keep consuming it.
If you watched the film Elpheba is actually the main character, Glinda is just the supporting lead role. The plot centers Elpheba and her quest to the Wizard of Oz and the uphill battle she then face. There was more debt to Elpheba’s character that made her so dynamic, introspective, resilient, brave, intelligent, special, warm, kind, misunderstood, etc. Glinda’s was actually very cowardly, conforming, vapid, mean-spirited, fake, performative, narcissistic, etc. There have been WW that played Elpheba before, the author of Wicked wrote the novel bc of the discrimination Jews faced. So this isn’t necessarily about black ppl or DSBW tho it can be applied just like any other marginalized group. Many actors/actresses like to challenge themselves with difficult roles where characters are outcast, unconventional, etc that’s what really redeems an actor’s skills. A BW playing Glinda may be nice for some, but the role is very hollow and vein, then a WW playing the better constructed character would’ve had me upset imo. There’s a reason why conventionally attractive actresses that play a tough/ugly/undesirable role (Scarlet Johansson, Jennifer Aniston, Zendaya, Leo DiCaprio, etc) are revered bc it highlighted their acting ability. Sometimes woman especially female entertainers don’t want to be known or booked for their looks/sexual appeal and rather for their acting skills. I say this to say I still very much understand your point however.
I'm just tired of live action "children's" movies with child characters being played by 30 and 40 plus years olds marketed to kids. At this point it's just adults living their cosplaying fantasies in front of child audiences

What an ignorant take. It seems you are lacking media literacy
