I heard Thomas Hobbs was inspired to write Leviathan by The Elements.
We know little about this great man but what we do know is that he lived among many great ancient thinkers in an obscure area of Cuyahoga county. This friends is what we do know.

This was the Hellenistic period of Egypt. Alexandria was founded by Alexander the Great (although there is known to have been people living in that area for along time before and cities older than the conquest by Alexander has been found during excavations of Alexandria) after the Greeks conquered Egypt. Euclid is believed to have arrived at Alexandria about 10 years after its foundation. He is believed to have studied in Athens before the arrival, but very little is known of him and place of birth is not known either. Ptolemy I Soter, who assumed the title of Pharaoh, founded the Ptolemaic Dynasty after Alexander's death, was also Greek Macedonian and is the Pharaoh that is referred to in the beginning.
