Love this sound. This video stands as a simple homage to the caliber of player Steve is. It also speaks to the love and agonizing dedication that Ernie Ball puts into the quality of their guitars. I feel so happy when I watch this series. Thanks for posting it.
What I prefer in his playing apart of course from the wonderfully melodic choice of notes is the fluidity of his bends which expand the scope of individual note selection....bringing out the great potential of the electric guitar.
I saw steve morse with the dregs at a club in victoria b.c. back in 1996.I was to say the least blown away!It seemed to me that morse is a genuenly nice guy.I was struck by how he thanked the 2people who played a very short set before the dregs came on .The 2 were just locals who were asked on a moments notice to play a warm up set guitar and violin.A real classy guy!
Man i'll give any thing to be like he is, and play he does. Morse is the BEST!!! If i only knew on what amp is he playing. His sound is awesome, better then all otherones i've ever heard. Morse i worship you!!!
I owe the Purple Burst version and I got to tell you, not a day goes by that I don't at least sneak a peek at it to this day as I go off to work, looking for to getting home and playing this guitar. Super super fast neck, sounds awesome and feels superb both in weight and in the playability. EB guitars tend to have a narrow feel around the 1-3 frets, so if you have a bigger hand, you may find it slightly uncomfortable. A must have. Quality is top notch.
what can i say other then that hi is awesome, and that Y2D is a fenomenal guitar. Finnaly they switched the pickup positions like a regular guitar. Thanks Ernie Ball MM
pcnation11! You roll the volume off on your guitar and as soon as you strike a note you roll it back up to fade the note in. It takes a bit of pratice to get it "smooth" you need to curl your little finger around the volume knob like steve does here. a little delay helps to make it sound smoother aswell.. Hope that helps
put the plectrum between your thumb and middle finger. extend your second finger until its straight.. put your hand at any point on the guitar ( can be a chord or single notes doesnt matter its your choice) but for example if its at the 5th fret ( barred) you'd play at the 17th fret harmonic position. so its basically just harmonics at the 12th fret as you would on an open guitar. but you can obviously do 9th fret , 7th fret, 5th fret, 4th fret, and 2nd fret harmonics also if you want.
I love this clip, I love his sound. it rocks! stratty sounds, tele-sounds, les paul roars, he got it all, in just 1 amp, 1 channel, 1 guitar. about those 'taps': its not a tap, he's picking a note, and simultaniously, he's touching the string, 12 frets higher, to get a natural harmonic. look up some clips like 'what ted greene taught me'.
I think Steve uses also a pedalboard wich simply controls his amp's channels, clean and distortion...you can see the pedalboard (looks like a MIDI pedalboard) in some video, near the one with 3 ernie ball volume pedals.
@FarazR2 JP may have borrowed a little something from steve in that case then, cause that riff is from a deep purple song called sometimes i feel like screaming.
I love the way he gets those artificial harmonics: one of the few shredders I really like. I'm a great blackmore fan, but I prefer DP with him tha with blackmore, at least in the 80'/90', since the MKII is untouchable. great player indeed!
That last version of his sig guitar sounds the best to me (the one that's not fancy.) I had one like that once. It was a great guitar and I shouldn't have sold it.
I know that that he is playing on ENGl but which model. It will be to loud if he had take with him the Invader or Powerball stack. It's sure some kind of combo. I, personaly, liked him with his Peaves 5150, I and II. Hes sound was to cleany for what he is using now. But that's just an opinion!
hes not tapping, what hes doing is he's putting his finger on a note to create the natural harmonic sound then he plays the same note on the same string an octave lower, then he just picks. its a pretty tricky technique
Petrucci should just do his own tours with a band of him and Steve Morse on guitar, Dave Larue on bass Rob Morganstein drummers, like a Dixie Dregs but with Petrucci and Jordan Ruddess. That would be the sickest thing ever.
Does anyone knows the name style form of Steve Morse guitar EB MM? It's similar as Stratocaster but some differences, can anyone tell me this guitar style form name? Thanks
Sorry but I was referring to headstock (sorry for forget to mention this). Is the config 4+2 patented from MusicMan? There is any other brand with 4+2 config?

He is one of the most versatile guitarists of our time!!!!!!!!!
What I prefer in his playing apart of course from the wonderfully melodic choice of notes is the fluidity of his bends which expand the scope of individual note selection....bringing out the great potential of the electric guitar.
THIS IS IN MY FAVOURITES SINCE QUITE SOME TIME AND EVERYTIME I AM JUST STOKED BY THIS. EVERYTIME!

@FarazR2 JP may have borrowed a little something from steve in that case then, cause that riff is from a deep purple song called sometimes i feel like screaming.
He uses the Special Edition the most, that's what he uses for all his leads and such.

his picking technique is so amazing..
Steve Morse is one of the coolest cats on the planet.
morse rules !
this sound of violin is violent!
I love the way he gets those artificial harmonics: one of the few shredders I really like. I'm a great blackmore fan, but I prefer DP with him tha with blackmore, at least in the 80'/90', since the MKII is untouchable. great player indeed!

2:07 to 2:14... Amazing
Petrucci should just do his own tours with a band of him and Steve Morse on guitar, Dave Larue on bass Rob Morganstein drummers, like a Dixie Dregs but with Petrucci and Jordan Ruddess. That would be the sickest thing ever.
@nhfret Close, but no, it's the progression of The Aviator :D

Fucking awesome
anyone knows what the main difference is between the blue ebmm and his SM-Y2D?
any idea how much one of them would cost and where can i get them?
How does he get that sound... almost like a volume pedal, around 1:10, minimal pick attack and the notes kind of "swell"??
Does anyone knows the name style form of Steve Morse guitar EB MM?
It's similar as Stratocaster but some differences,
can anyone tell me this guitar style form name?
Thanks
