The thing that shocked me in your demo is that it has such deep, rich bass yet it's so articulate at the same time - I could clearly hear every melodic note across the tonal spectrum with nothing being overpowered by boomy bass. It sounds impressively balanced yet equally powerful at the same time.
I am a big fan of walnut. I toured the Martin factory nearly thirty years ago, and my tour guide talked about walnut and what a great tone wood it is. I have been waiting for a walnut dread to be introduced into the Martin lineup ever since.
Love the tone of this guitar! So warm! Doesn't have that spiky treble on the high notes. The fundamentals are nice and fat. Reminds me a lot of my CEO-9 (which I love and gig with every week)., only bigger! Great choice for a custom guitar!
I'm calling it a Martin G; new classification; just had to comment... Superb performance Coop and the pick gives one that percussive sound that's just not there with the fingers. It's what I like about the original arrangement of Here Comes the Sun; it's played perfectly (cover) with a pick! I've never heard anything that's more interesting or just blows your socks off; incredible! Antonio always had a spruce top; the guy knew something... Maby it's the slope shoulders... Thanks for the enjoyment of the virtuoso sound of the performance; not unexpected but I think the pick made a big difference...
Hey Chris et al, it IS a hard wood, and as such, it's great as a structural wood for b & s as you know. Getting THAT dynamic range out of the top speaks loads to Martin's building, not the wood. That has to be a strategically thinned top with perfectly carved, carefully placed bracing. Oh, and the hide glue helps A LOT. Hence the $$$$ Whether "prettier than 'hog is apples/oranges. Look at some genuine mahogany with its own unique 'flame' figure. Maybe not as over the top as Walnut or Maple, but... Nice one, thanks!
I own an all Ovangkol Martin OMC16e and it has a lot of that warm richness that I hear in this walnut guitar, not quite as deep bodied sound as the slope shoulder custom. Koa has a lot of that warmth as well. I actually prefer my OMC to my 000-28 or D35. It is the last guitar I would part with. I recently tried a GPCE Inception which has a walnut panel in the back of a maple body and carries a lot of the same qualities. Different sound from classic Martin tone but very warm and sweet. When I first read about the GPCE I was a bit ckeptical but it now rising in my lust-for list. Closer to the Ovangkol OMC than it is to the Rosewood 000-28 but a bit fuller.
Those who know do know about Walnut. A gift from God. Several years ago Alvarez offered ALL SOLID Black Walnut guitars in various shapes. New about $1500. Some still out there on the web. I have 3. I am a very serious experienced passionate pro level acoustic fingerstyle guitar player repairer nerd still writing and performing at 75. Congrats to whomever gets to take this baby home. After 65 years and truly countless guitars I have decided that for me it's WALNUT. Inspiring. BTW Also **Kiesel custom tricked out 3" thinline **RainSong(S) **SMM So Many More ALAMO ROX BIG TIME
@ I suspect that is the case. I have a CEO-7 and love it. It is perfectly balanced, produces a low end that rivals much larger guitars. Right now I’m experimenting with Martin’s Kovar strings compared with the “normal” MA540T’s. The jury is still out.
Sounds beautiful. Could Martin drop an all nut themed guitar; Brazilian rosewood B+S, walnut top, macadamia neck, pecan fretboard, almond inlays? It would be a cracker!
Love all you guys do!!! One thing.. can you please (always) tell us the scale length of the neck? I play 00- ‘s and love the slight shorter scale for bending and alternate tunings
I've been wondering what a full hardwood guitar like walnut or oak would sound like. Nobody really makes these though. In some ways it sounds exactly like I thought it wood. Super clear and articulate from the top, but also rich overtones from the back and sides. I think that it's transparent like maple, but has overtones like rosewood. I also think that the overall tone profile of this guitar would be easy to get wrong, and that the finer points about the tone mentioned in the video is due to the luthier.
It does have a great sound, I just wish you would have strummed some open chords and let them ring out, because that's how I rate a guitar's sound. If I had that kind of money, I would buy it. But, I would have a satin finish put on it. Good going guys
DANG!!! LOVE IT!! I think the dam is going to break on walnut. Love the low E. Love the crispness. Only thingy, I'd go for a thin non-gloss finish, maybe showing pores if possible. Thank you for all that you are and all that you do! Don't think you showed the volute, an essential and necessary aspect of its conception and personality.
Just so you know, walnut has (and is) used with dulcimers perhaps as standard as mahogany back and sides on dreadnoughts. I am guessing larger pieces of walnut are harder to find. Dulcimers are typically 7 or 8 inches wide so with native availability it tends to be the choice for these instruments. Nice guitar but I can't afford.
Looks magnificent, but I'm not a fan of the tone -- particularly in the bass strings. I found it a bit harsh/metallic, and prefer something a bit warmer/woodier. It is just a question of preference, though I also think there's a good reason that spruce and cedar are the woods of choice for guitar tops.
Ah, walnut-the aristocrat of temperate hardwoods! It definitely deserves to be priced at a premium, yes, to be even more expensive than Brazilian Rosewood (sarcasm). Has Martin gone completely crazy or are they just addressing a market where the buyers are completely insane?
Did not expect that clarity and depth of tone. Lovey guitar played by a master player.
The thing that shocked me in your demo is that it has such deep, rich bass yet it's so articulate at the same time - I could clearly hear every melodic note across the tonal spectrum with nothing being overpowered by boomy bass. It sounds impressively balanced yet equally powerful at the same time.
The Lucious bass tones coupled with the distinct high tones make this a beautiful instrument. Much more interesting to my ear than most dreadnaughts.
Lovely sound. So warm and full.
It may just be that my hearing aids are working better today but DAMN if I do absolutely love the sound of that guitar!

Gorgeous, guys! Really pretty sounding and I have always loved the look of walnut! Two thumbs up!
Very warm, Love it!
Must be so cool getting to experience such a unique acoustic.. y’all have an awesome job🫶🏼
Great sounding guitar!
wow, from the first strum, just awesome. great job
I REALLY like this one. But walnut done right goes well with my voice
Thanks, Chris and Cooper!
Still sounds like a Martin. Not a bad thing. Cooper you do it justice. Chris we need to hear you too. Great vid. Heading to Nazareth in a few weeks.
Wow. Tone is great and unexpected. A 000 in all walnut would be a winner too.
Awesome 😎

What an unbelievably beautiful sound coming out of this unbelievably beautiful guitar. I if could have a say in this I wouldn’t change a thing. 😍😍😍
Agree, the sound is just so beautiful!

We're starting to see a lot more walnut in high end guitars very cool
Nice playing Coops. 🎸
If I had $9500 to spend on a Martin, I'd fly back to San Antonio to see this one.

Sounds really good....better then the D41 walnut B/S guitar I heard today....nice bottom end.
The sound is known in comparison. One guitar always sounds great, marketers friends. ;)
Two snaps and a circle. Only in my dreams.

ALAMO ROX BIG TIME
Cooper can make any guitar sound good… let Chris do the demo next time !!! I miss those days Chris is playing🎉🎉🎉
And very balanced.
Beautiful guitar with an amazing sound. Thanks. Next, I’d like to see/hear you do a comparison between a Gibson LG-2 and a Martin CEO-7.
If you’re not into Gibson custom shop the Martin will have the LG for breakfast.
@ I suspect that is the case. I have a CEO-7 and love it. It is perfectly balanced, produces a low end that rivals much larger guitars. Right now I’m experimenting with Martin’s Kovar strings compared with the “normal” MA540T’s. The jury is still out.

Cracker indeed especially in price

It’s a Dreadnought so 25.4”
Wow. Sounds great! Is all-walnut going to become a thing?

I hear what you guys mean about range. Bassy and yet sparkly too, probably a bit out of my price range though! 😂

👌😎
first :) Nice looking Martin
I've NEVER seen all-walnut guitar!

$9400.00 and change?! So much better out there for less. You would get bragging rights I suppose, but still. Yikes!
What other guitars have comparable sounds?
@@huangss00for that money you're in the realm of Santa cruz, Collings, bourgeois, even a more base Preston Thompson
It sounds fantastic, but that price hah!
DELICIOUS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nuttin but nut
Ah, walnut-the aristocrat of temperate hardwoods! It definitely deserves to be priced at a premium, yes, to be even more expensive than Brazilian Rosewood (sarcasm). Has Martin gone completely crazy or are they just addressing a market where the buyers are completely insane?
If the tops not solid spruce then it's just not going to do!
Sounded like Jack Johnson to me heh.
Yes. Let’s all go to the money tree and once more grab 10k cause that’s not an issue. Spec’d out. More like peaced out. Jesus.
Did you EQ the bottom? C’mon man , that is impossibly rich for a stiff new guitar.
Sorry, that is no way more beautiful than mahogany. Sounds good; no shimmer like a D-42. I will pass.
I have an all walnut Alvarez Masterworks OM (MFA77ce) that sounds wonderful. Instead of saying it's "All Walnut" I call it "Allnut" lol.
