Sir,I am unable to express my feelings after immersing in this concert. It is majestically decorated even without accompanying instruments. A soulful programme by Sri Vijay siva sir. My humble pranams.
A mellifluous presentation of the majestic Shankarabharana Raga and its magnanimity not only in Carnatic music, but in world music 🌸 It's a beautiful presentation by Vid.Sri Vijaya Siva 🌸🙏🌸
Another stellar yet rare composition in Shankarabaranam by Maha Vaidyanatha Sivan is "Muthu Kumaraiyane". There are a couple of recordings of the great Sri Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer singing this composition.
Exquisite and blissful Dheera Sankarabharanam. A lot of research has gone into the episodes. The output is full of wizardry. Very rare to see vidwans these days explaining the intricacies of raagams. Ambience, acoustics and the majestic voice pouring out Sankarabharanam as honey is the icing on the cake. Dhanyosmi.
Aesthatically pleasing decor, with matching attire and accountrements made the transition from outdoor shoots to indoor easy on the eye. A complete 21 minute treatise on the origins of the Raga, seminal compositions and treatment by various composers. Very pleasing audio-visual narrative mixed with almost 40 years of musical depth. Great effort.
Thisepisode speaks about depth of your knowledge and the vast repertoir you have you could have sung Pogadirelo Ranga also. Thanks for awoderful treat and treatise on sankarabharanam
Vijaya Siva ji, you perfectly build a bridge from tradition to the minds of today’s youth. That is a service to this unique art form we are blessed to have. Please do continue this raga journey…. I am sure many are waiting for more gems from you.
Amazing Presentation of Shankarabharanam, . Totally Flowered By his amazing Versatility and his extensive Research on this subject and explaining in a Most Inspiring and interesting way. !!
An absolute Majestic presentation of this Mega Raga 'Shankarabranam". A Mega Canvas painted beautifully in a short time covering the major and important aspects so beautifully. The Neraval itself could require more time and could be as interesting. Many thanks , Sir once again.
Excellent episode. As you say, shankarabharanam will be a favourite of many, which is very soothing and soft. On seeing this episode ones' love for this ragam will be multifold. No words to thank. Eager to listen infinite no. of episodes. As many rasikas feel, we will be privileged to hear one full song in each episode that too which is not so frequently sung in concert platforms. Thanks vijay. God bless.
Namaste sir! SankaraabharaNam is indeed as majestic and mesmerising as a snake. Now I am able to relate the raga with the movements of a snake - that too of a black cobra. The leap from aadhaara shadjam to taara sthaayi shadjam reminds me of the snake raising its hood. The very popular swara prayOgam "GMG GRG GMG GRG" resembles the swaying of a snake's hood. The slithering snake, the sliding snake. the falling snake can all be visualized by me now clearly. Is it because snake is a living thing and this rAga is attached to it? Can similar things happen with the other ragas? I wonder!
Thank you sir for this lovely episode. You are not only an ocean of knowledge, but also kind enough to spread. This is the hallmark of a great vidwan and a teacher.
Namaskaram, thanks for a good inside view of the raga and how it was adopted by composers and the emotive lyrics. Yet, I submit that the famous English Note of Harikesanallur and song by Mani Iyer was missed out. I was expecting it at the end.
21.52 minutes of total bliss. Glad that the episodes are longer. Such delightful insights into the beautiful shankarabaranam. Even though there was no full fledged song this episode the small snippets of the songs that you sang are like honey to the ears. Too young to appreciate your work and the knowledge you share with us, so let me pray to Lord Shankara for more such wonderful episodes.
Can discern that a lot of research has been carried out which is reflected in your flawless rendition by a majestically flowing Kaveri river. God bless you. Asirvathams
glued to this amazing sea of information, like a naga bhandam. looking forward to this every week. and your enthusiasm - and the anecdote of the national anthem!
One of the best. Well explained and nailed with Kalyana Vibhavam. Sankara Abhranam is so sacred and divine. Well done Vijay with a tour of brilliant composition
Namaskaram Guru One who takes you from darkness and into light is a Guru! You are truly a Guru! I was absolutely thrilled to listen to your exposition because of the connections and illustrations you made regarding this beautiful Ragam! Brilliant and amazing presentation! Ramiah
What a magnificent Raga Shankarabharanam is! Thank you for yet another extremely informative session, sir. 🙏🏻 A great Raga for the main composition of a concert.
Humble namaskarams to you for your excellent presentation and endeavor 🙏🙏 You have taken us on a royal journey exploring the majestic Shankarabaranam! Dhanyosmi Guru🙏
No words sir again, I knew the power of shankarabharanam, but never knew it so much, wov wonderful, and my wife was complaining just 21 mins ? But anyway you brought out the beauty of shankarabharanam. (and someone has disliked it don't know why) I thought you would talk about Muthukumar iyyane (probably I am bit greedy) Ty Ty Ty
A big salute and humble Namaskaram 🙏🏼 for your extensive research and brilliant explanations on every topic that you choose for these episodes. In both the Kalyani episode and this episode, your explanation of the swaras and identification of the Raaga leaving few notes is amazing. Thanks for sharing your joy for music week after week!
An Abharanam of Sankara in which rAga we have compositions covering the entire gamut of a carnatic music performance, and your explanations did provide great knowledge regarding the understanding of the compositions, you have chosen for the demonstration. Thank you and great going Vijay.
Amazing insights. Thank you! Anandaloke Mangalaloke by Rabindranath Tagore composed on the basis of "Kayo Sri Gowri" is not dedicated to any specific deity but the theme is meditative, wasn't expecting that to be mentioned in this presentation, it was such a pleasant surprise! This is the first time I listened to an episode of Vande Sangeetam and absolutely loved it, will definitely listen to all the other episodes.
The Kirthana "Baghumira" in Sankarabharanam was used to be sung by the great maestro GNB. I have heard him sing the song on one or two occasions. Somehow it seems to have become obsolete in recent years. .
All your Vande Sangeetam sessions are v informative uncle...thank you for introducing this series....looking forward for more such superb sessions..thank you- Shreya Venghatesh
There are many compositions when we think of this ragam and many immortal pieces like Enduku Peddala, Manasa Swadheena of Thyagaraja Swamigal, Akshaya Linga Vibho, Dakshinamurte of Muthuswami Deekshitar and one immortal composition of Shyama Shastri covering the whole gamut of Shankarabharanam Sarojadalanetri are there in this ragam and of course many compositions are there in this ragam like the Western Notes of Muthuswami Deekshitar in Shankarabharanam Ragam which can be easily taught to Carnatic Music beginning students.
Sir, this is exceptional, loaded with valuable information, thank you so much, enduku peddala n akshayalinga vibho, what master pieces, the serpentine movement of swaras n national anthem in this raaga is amazing info, added attraction is the great ambience, thank you again 🙏🙏🙏
Akshaya Linga Vibo has always been my favourite in this raagam! It's majestic, divine and sounds so beautiful at the same time! 😁 Namaskarams to your knowledge thr musical bliss from your knowledge 🙏
As usual a very scintillating workshop. Very interesting n informative. Aazhndhu aghandra nunniyane 🙏🙏. Same way length, breadth, height, macro micro n nano level research n explanation of sankarabaranam. I think these discourses on each raga will be a very good guide for disciples of Carnatic music. And sang the last dong with you 🙏🙏🙏 As usual charanam and may God give you the best in life - my prayers
I've been trying to find a good recording or at least the lyrics of the padam by Sabhapathy Sivan for many years, but it's also extremely rare. There's an old recording of Smt DKP singing it but unfortunately the audio quality isn't great. This is a rasika's request, swami - could you please sing it in full and put it out for our collective benefit?
Just a bliss to listen to you with so much insights about a beautiful ragam explaining so much intricacies. Sheer masterly presentation sir!!!!. Missed the serene kaveri backdrop coupled with lilting water stream. Uniquely intertwined snippets of kritis, notu swarams, tillanas etc today
With the limited knowledge I have, please allow me to say: Respected Sir! You are in that "Swargaapavarga" yourself. My father used to say unless you enjoy you cannot make others enjoy! it is all about "Swaanubhavam" as Thyagaraja Swami emphasized. Limitless thanks for all the effort that is going into each episode. How much joy and enthusiasm is needed for the making!!! Bow to your feet humbly! It is not just the content but also the way of articulating it and keeping your audience in the grip until last moments is extraordinary. We definitely need more of this, I humbly ask you to continue this good work where our tradition and hence the vedic knowledge needs to be kept alive in ALL challenging situations we are currently facing. DhanyavaadaaH!

Beautiful and very profound explanation of this universal ragam Sir. Pranams to you for sharing such knowledge and wisdom. Sir, can you do an episode on gaurimanohari and one on vagulabharanam? Thanks in advance.
Great and fruitful presentation of an inexhaustible raga in just 20 minutes. From bits of interesting info ( Tagore,National Anthems etc) to all the major compositions - a line here and another there! Two qns : Why did the movie, eponymous and exclusively as a dedication to this raga, present Sankarabharanam as the weighty anklet when it actually means Shiva’s cooled snake? Is the Sitakalyanam sung in Kurinji too ? And, how close are the two ragas,so as make them sometimes indistinguishable? Thanks.
I wonder why this gentleman has not mentioned any Tamil keerthana in Sankarabaranam. Is tamil language bereft of any song on this raag. Many viewers or listeners do not know Telugu or Sanskrit. Then how would one get complete satisfaction.?.
