Shy outcast Kokoro has been avoiding school for weeks when she discovers a portal in her bedroom mirror. She reaches through and finds herself transported to an enchanting castle where she is joined by six other students. When a girl in a wolf mask explains that they have been invited to play a game, the teens must work together to uncover the mysterious connection that unites them. However, anyone who breaks the rules will be eaten by a wolf.
From acclaimed director Keiichi Hara (COLORFUL, MISS HOKUSAI) and based on the bestselling novel by Mizuki Tsujimura, Lonely Castle in the Mirror is a heartfelt drama about the pains of growing up and the unlikely bonds that can bring people together.
Female characters in this movie have probably the most natural sounding voices I have heard in any anime ever.

Because the cast in this anime are not anime voice actors but movie, J-drama actors. I recommend watching anime with a cast full of movie stars instead of seiyuu.
if it is really the case , i never thought to hear that someday. that's so refreshing . after so many of japanese anime movie and series where they force the seyiu's to make too energical over the top acting (which has started to gets old) , they finally ask these actors to be more natural. i wonder if Keichi Hara does that for the originality
Pretty normal, non anime series movies like these normally have these type of voices. I call them ''movie voices'' lol They all sound the same to me, I mean the tone and delivery they use (Your name, Tenki no ko, Belle, pretty much all Ghibli movies too) If you watched enough movies, you'll notice too
I am Japanese and saw this movie at the theater, and it was one of the most memorable movies I have seen in the last few years.
Many of the audience, myself included, cried tears of happiness at the end of the movie.
Like "A Silent Voice", I hope that many people around the world will see this movie. 10/10

I've read the novel and it's very close to my heart. It has such a nice message and so many lovable characters. They're not perfect people but that's what makes me love them so much. I would definitely recommend this!

Having watched the movie, it probably worked better as a novel. The pacing is just terrible. You could easily cut an hour out of the middle of the movie and not lose much. Then you reach the last 20 minutes or so and everything happens all at once.
This is such a phenomenal movie. I pre-ordered the manga after seeing the movie. I wish I knew about the emotional parts cause I needed tissues in the last 20 mins.
I love it when the characters actually look and SOUND like real people.
I loved the book so much that after finishing it in the library, I bought a copy for myself at the bookstore. It's just so hauntingly beautiful and tugs at my heart strings.

I was just enchanted by the whole movie. It was such an emotional rollercoaster ride. It has excellent dubbing. I went and pre-ordered the blu-ray and Manga after seeing this. ❤❤

Not gonna lie as a once bullied victim in middle school, this movie brought tears in my eyes because man those kids had it way worse. The way they were there for each other made me bawl😭 great movie!! However I wish we knew more about what happened to the other kids at the end.
There is a series of postcards issued in Korea. Spoilers! (I guess) At one point they all gather in one place. But they don't recognize each other, sans one of course.
Song is "Merry Go Round" by Yuuri btw. I recommend giving him a listen. His songs are so great
The book was so good! Heartbreakingly realistic take on anxiety and very moving on how it approach bullying. I felt like I'm back to being a helpless child longing for connection.

I can relate. This movie made me tear up. I even started shaking during it.
This movie did an excellent job at capturing what the kids were going through. It's even worse now with social media. I wish I had know cause I would have brought tissues when act 3 started.
@GwenStacylover464 ME tooooo. It was very relatable and realistic. The voice acting was superb. I didn't think it would be emotional so the 3rd act was completely unexpected. Wish I got to see it a 2nd time on the big screen 😊
Mamoru Hosoda's movies are one of the best anime movies I've ever watched! Some of my favorites are Wolf Children, The Boy and the Beast, Summer Wars, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, and Belle. I can't wait to watch this movie.

Watched this on the plane while flying to Tokyo last month. Just an amazing movie. That end hits like a ton of bricks.
Came here after watching the movie.
It is even more tough when you actually go through it irl. I hope whoever is going through it finds people like them. And even if they don't, I hope they can wake up from this nightmare and see the sunlight for themselves and not for others.

i saw this movie an hour ago and it was flat out beautiful. The plot twists, the storyline, the characters, everything about it was amazing. I definitely cried over it. I definitely recommended and I'll definitely buy the movie when it comes out

Lonely castle in the mirror is more than a movie. It’s an emotion. It’s a story. It’s something that people like me can relate to. This movie was spectacular and wonderful. It told me to never give up. It told me life may be hard, but you can stay strong during those times. This movie was life changing. This movie was a tearjerker. This movie was beautiful. Thanks, Studio Ghibli.
No this movie is made by studio A-1 pictures, not ghibli. They have a lot more amazing anime movies

The movie will have a limited screening in the USA June 21 22 2023. The story covers a wide range of child psychological and sociological issues with compassion, but the topics are not for children under 12 years old - unless a parent wants to do a great deal of explaining. The story is best viewed as a coming of age fairy tale.
