As a 24 year old, I think I just witnessed one of the in my eyes most adorable ways of communicating with children. You’re not changing you’re voice that much, not talking childy things only, taking you’re son seriously with what he has to say. I will save this video to remind me of this when I, one day, hopefully will be on a hiking trip with my own kids :) lovely content!

Just don't talk to your kid like they're a Golden Retriever and they will end up being able to talk properly and more "grown up". This also means they won't get frustrated when trying to talk to explain something to you. My daughter is 4 years old and can have proper conversations with me because I didn't talk to her like she's a dog.

As a 57 year old with 6 incredible children, the youngest 16 and the oldest 36 in the next couple days, I could not agree more with all these comments! Treat your children with respect and maturity and that's how they will grow up. My only regret? I didn't take enough photos and videos. You appear to be a wonderful dad and Noah's behavior supports the appearance. Keep up the good work and take more pictures 📸

Any missed photos are your fault alone. Your assistant Noah did an amazing job. He reminded you so many times about your camera you forgot, and didn't let you get nearly as far as you normally do before remembering to go back for it.

Adding: another curse of photography, especially when running, is being out on a run, seeing a PERFECT scene, and not having a camera with you to grab it.

Oh this is just the best! Noah is so adorable. One of my favorite things about your videos is that you are real with your viewers. Noah saying you left the camera is hilarious. The honesty of a 2 year old is priceless. Thanks for sharing your sweet boy with us. You two and your father son interactions brightened my day and made me smile.

As the dad of a two year old - hiking with my daughter, with my camera is one of my favourite things. This is both great to see and infinitely relatable. Every time she asks me to pick a flower for her, or says 'wow' at something she finds impressive (but is usually just a funny looking tree stump), or asks me to find more animal poo. Both amusing and endearing. Fun joint activity and i get to scratch my creative itch. Loved this video.

It occurs to me that having someone for whom everything is new, interesting, and exciting is an ideal companion for a photographer who has become a little jaded and overaccustomed to the world he inhabits. Lovely video.

Thanks James, you reminded me of how much I enjoyed having my kids with me when I hiked and attempted to do photography. Here I am thirty years later and they are carrying their own equipment. My daughter taught in France for a year upon graduation from university. I let her take my old dslr. She commented that when she would get home sick, she would take out that camera. She said the smell reminded her of me and helped her to not feel so alone. You may not have made many photos on this one, but sometimes the memories are so much more important.

This may be the best landscape-photographer-youtuber video I've seen. Doing anything with a small human involved requires considerably more effort, exponentially more time, usually more money, and probably generates more mistakes along the way. AND YET, it is far more worthwhile all the same. Well done, dad!

This has to be in the top five of your videos - maybe number one for me. When my kids were small, one was always treated to going to work with me. It won’t be long and your son will be giving you photography tips. My son is now 34, loves photography, and has a great collection of digital and film cameras. I think I gave him a simple point and shoot camera when he was 5. All my kids got one, and my oldest girl majored in photography. Cheers!

I've got a little one about the same age as yours. At the end of this video, when you say you didn't get anything good at all, it makes me think that you may think differently in a few years when some of these photos may remind you of this day you spent with your little guy on your back. Maybe it happens often enough for this to not be much of a memorable day, but I'd cherish a day like that and the boring photos I took quite a bit!

I've created these little straps that allow me to hook my camera to the shoulder straps of my hiking pack, and it makes the camera almost weightless.
