What is going to change though? Bad people are going to exist in any system. Sadly, there's no perfect reality where everyone is all nice and friendly to each other. Bad apples exist in every society and there's absolutely nothing that protesting/rioting will do about that
Not really. I think that that is based on your bias, not the message of the song. The song is simply a conversation between two people of extreme opinions who both have valid points but I think people of both race opinions fall between this spectrum.
@@swarm898 That's not the point. The point is that, if you are black, you are more likely to have "a black personality" which means you are more likely to agree with the black with the bllack person, which means you are more likely to be seen as that. And the same goes for every race/culture.

6 years and this shit still gives me chills when I watch/listen. Joyner really wrote this so well from both sides. Man is so talented. Such a deep song.
The world needs to reach the scene where they hug it out in the end. Unfortunately, I think we're a long way away from that, but it starts with us. It starts with a hug😊
I think this song is more impactful than "This is America" by Childish Gambino. I like both, but this one doesn't use symbolism to guess the message. This message is clear.
The point of This is America is that America is using entertainment to distract us from the stuff that's happening, that's why that you have to actually pay attention to the background to see the true symbolism of the song
reason why gambino made it so unclear is so that people think about it. They analsy it, they do research to it. And true this song is way more clearer but Donald most def left a message. And to me i even think a bigger message. The people can interpret the video in different ways but it still leaves you thinking
The overarching theme of this is disagreement, understanding, and then unity. They don't want that for us. Too easy to swing elections and sway public opinion when we're all mad at each other
I been listening to rap for 30-35 years (I know im old) haha. So i can definitely say that i heard it all and seen it all..... But not this. This was beyond creative. This is exactly how both sides really feel because they never took the time to really listen to and understand each other. No one has dug this deep to lay it down from both perspectives on one track. There's many things to take away here. You can see there is pain, fear, ignorance and other elements that gives you the gravity of whats at stake.
Absolutely and that's what Joyner Lucas does, he's so creative and underrated I hate it! I like the way he’s spittin bars about both sides and not just one (edit):I know he’s biracial but sometimes for example with logic he pretty much only talks about his black heritage from what I heard and it’s easy for people who are biracial to pick one side rather than talk about both
Manawa Taurua All politics arises from the base of when given the task of how best to govern a people. Think of when humans were hunter gatherers and you want to set up your society. You want free market, private property? You are on the right. You want regulation, goverment interference? You are on the left. You agree with the right? You agree with the left? Oh, well looks like politics divided us.
@Rafael orozco this song explains both sides of a perspective. It’s true regardless the person you judge off the cover of who they are and the more you know about it makes your judgement in your head more justified Everyone will judge off cover and if you don’t then your the most peaceful man the world has ever seen since everyone has done it
@Rafael orozco the average person is not racist. People acting like a majority of the populous are just ignorant to this. People are more to go out of their way for people of color and there are many instances of people of color getting many different opportunities in jobs just solely due to skin color (affirmative action comes to mind and some scholarships only available to people of color). Since this is in America it’s best to put a view on it with the police system being against black men rather than other skin color/gender. This is a form of discrimination but can be looked at due to the fact black people make a majority of prison cells so it’s something imbedded into their mentality. A guy who led a huge movement during Black Lives Matter(don’t know the name) was actually invited to be on the forces training for a day in which he “shot” a couple people solely because he assumed the worst and wanted his safety. This song explains both whites and blacks sides of the argument saying black culture is crime rampant and they’re given more for just skin color and the black guy is accusing the white guy for stealing culture since white kids now are just saying the n word freely which the black guy says is wrong
@@twintrbo92 Honestly though. A decent part of my childhood was in an all black city. It's so bad there that as an adult, my black friends would even say that they would never step foot in that city because of how dangerous it is. The black community hates everyone regardless of skin color, all while being painted as a victim. And of course I'm speaking on a macro level. I've met many individual black people that don't hate at all, but within the ghetto this isn't the case. I know their story. I've lived their story. I understand their story. I don't agree with how they're deciding to end that story.
@@The_Real_Frisbee Alright, look. I know you think you've lived their story, but you really haven't. You could live with black people all your life and never know half of what your friends have gone through. Me and my white best friend grew up together, but during a discussion, she learned that she didn't even know half of what I've been through, especially racism. And we're really close. We went to the same elementary school, middle school, and highschool. We both got great grades and graduated. She said she thought my life was actually pretty alright since to her it didn't seem like I was being bullied because of my race. It's not because she purposefully turned a blind eye, it's because she's white. And because she's white they had no real reason to target her so they only targeted me whenever I was alone. Just because you think you know someone and their story doesn't mean you do

@@ShadyKray You need to see beyond the ideal. People have a need to be part of something. By their "race", religion, musical genre, ect... But when you think by yourself, i mean seriously search the truth, you can progressively see the irony in anything, and also that the things we wanna be part of are basically illusory. But that doesn't mean that things like music and religion cannot be useful. Today, music, more than religion, gives people some confidence, security, makes suffering less difficult to take, modulate some states of mind that stimulate your focus and energy, and, most importantly, it can make you think. And for someone who know how to think and apply his knowledge, the potential is huge.

i see people angry in the comments because the white man said the n-word THE WHITE DUDE ISNT ACTUALLY TALKING ITS JOYNER LUCAS WHO IS SPEAKING AS BOTH OF THEM
It was art but I wish the stereotype would have been omitted. White dude just spit his verse, black dude smacked his hat off and tossed the table. It would have been so much better without that in my opinion.
Yeah, I had only watched the first half for like, a year. Today I revisited this video and only now saw that there was a second half and I feel bad for only having watched the first half for that long of a time.
@Steve nah? wdym. the whole point of the video is that both sides are partly wrong and partly right, but that doesn't matter. What matters is they came together and reconciled.
Can we talk about the cinematography for just a sec? Whether or not it was intentional, the camera movement was such a good representation of the world right now. The camera was moving, revolving around the two men as they were arguing with each other showing how we the whole world is watching and fighting because of racism. When the black fellow threw the table, it showed how people just want to get rid of the barrier of racism. When they finally hugged it out, it showed how Joyner just wants a world of peace and love for each other. There's probably more metaphors but I don't want to type a whole essay. Whether or not these metaphors were on purpose or not, it just shows the talent and beauty of this music video.
Kevin Huynh umm no I'm pretty sure the table def represented the divide and it being thrown as the guy slowly became more receptive was meant to lead towards the hug. But yeah any way to switch the subject any one else think it was a little corny how quickly the white dude started looking guilty/educated when the black dude started talking. To summarize His first line was basically "being back is hard" and the other dude was already having his Ed Norton out of jail American history x moment.
I don’t get how this video only has 150m views. It’s one of the bravest and raw pieces of music JL has ever made. A song going 360 with both perspectives hearing eachother out. Watching this in 2024, 2025 and so on. This is a masterpiece.
The pure ignorance being spewed out in these replies is cancer. How can you literally watch a video intended to bring people together and turn it into further hate. You have serious issues if you can't get behind taking time to improve a flaw in our society. Knock people down who are trying to make a positive change? You're pathetic...
PubsWubs Because he’s not the ignorant one, the black side in the video was mostly complaining like a child a real man could get a job and suck it up. They also portrayed the white man poorly as he misrepresented the policies that Trump supporters really wanted.
Saw Joyner heart a comment 2 weeks ago The fact that Joyner still checks up on this video is kinda heartwarming, or depressing depending on how look at it
@@invincibleunderthesun. Finally the Dialogue has been OPEN THIS BULLSHIT HAS GONE ON WAY TO FAR IT HAS TO START SOMEWHERE , WHY NOT HERE WHY NOT NOW !!! KEEP TALKING!!!
I see a lot of people here saying either "the white guy's right!" or the "the black guy's right!". Problem is that the lot of you missed the point of the song, it's not about who's right. It's about coming to an understanding, to find a common ground; and if not a common ground at least that they will agree to disagree. They basically showed the two sides getting all their points out, letting their aggression pour out of them. Once the aggression was out and the points made and they had agreed to disagree they could begin the discussion.
Your so right hes saying the anger exists because everyone sees their point of view about each other but doesnt realize the other side feels the same. If we would come together we would realize were fighting the same fight.
Agreed. I'm seeing more people drawing this conclusion, too. It was my first impression of the video. They both make valid points because in their cultures it's reality.
Absolutely, most importantly *communicating* with eachother. Which we don't have alot of right now, because everytime a right winger speaks about legitimate issues the left shuts them down as a racist or bigot or whatever, and simultaneously I think the right should also try to empathise with and understand people who may feel oppressed.
Nah it’s beeeen being recorded. It just took George’s life to really let these mfs know we past tired of the fukkkkkery. Ahmed’s death was the last warning. The best thing about this is we have many races that feel the same as we do protesting with us. That speaks volumes...
Well as a 47 year old white man that song put this issue into more perspective than anything I’ve heard in the past 30 years. We all need to do better. I pray that we can. I know that we can. This young man just gained a new fan. Probably not the demographic he was looking for. Lol
Thank you, Mark! We need more people that are willing to open their eyes, ears, & heart. Let's continue to educate those that may not understand. Don't stop here!✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿
Oh man this got kicked off of trending fast. God forbid we get an accurate portrayal of both sides ending in a peaceful coming together in the interest of solving problems rather than perpetuating petty conflicts based on minor differences we should all learn to just accept.
MusicMan420 You incompetent ignorant fuck. They’re simply venting, no there is no victim he’s playing because he defending himself while counteracting. Both are giving wide issues, which are accurate maybe not to you or few people you know but majority is accurate you dumb fuck. Also no it’s not matter of thinking it’s hearing majority opinions, not his thought of what a side thinks. Go check your research before assume shit you don’t even know.
wowserouisly Im liking this argument... let's be fucking REAL, none of us know what the majority think... we are going off what we see in the news. ALL NEWS IN ALL SIDES HAVE AN AGENDA. I like what this video is doing and it may represent a SUPERFICIAL FACET of what's going on... but there are A LOT of educated people out there with love and peace in their hearts that AREN'T represented in this vid... the video DOES show a few seconds of that in the end but not how the loving educated black/white human who wants unity sees the situation. Let alone an educated LATINO (and I mean SELF EDUCATED AND ENLIGHTENED... not government schooled) Peace ✌🏼 we're all gods
This. I went into this fully expecting the white dude to be the bad guy. But it pointed out the bad parts of both sides and showed a common ground can be met. This is honestly one of the best music videos I've seen in a LONG time and one we really need nowadays.
The end is what actually fucked me up. My whole family is African American. I’m adopted, so I’m half white and half mexican. The love I have for my dad and my whole family is unreal. I hate going around stores because we always get looks. Like my dad can’t hug me or talk to me just because he’s black. The way my own brothers get treated by society, versus the way I do hurts me more than ever. Wish we lived in this country together as one, worked as one. This whole video tugged at my heart, I’m not black but I’m definitely affected by both sides of the spectrum. Joyner Lucas did a hella good job, and you’re the future in this rap game and in this society in general
Lil Marzid same, my moms white and my dad is hispanic and i look like my mom, whenever im with my dad people always give us looks and my friends ask if im adopted

He was a career criminal. Multiple home Security cameras caught him on video. He didn't deserve to die like that, but he wasn't some harmless victim like people are claiming
@ I hope you understand that by saying he wasn't a harmless victim you are basically saying he deserved to die lie that. Those men had no right to follow him and murder him because they thought they saw something. There is little footage showing him going through and abandoned home and that's it. And him being a "career" criminal is false. There is some speculation that he had a criminal record but that doesn't make him some wanted bank robber. There is absolutely no justification for what happened in February at all and even if he was some "career criminal" don't you think that's something police would handle instead of a WHITE SUPREMACIST and his son who went along with him. Don't be blind. Open your eyes and see the truth and hope those men go to justice.

@@swarm898 That's not the point.
The point is that, if you are black, you are more likely to have "a black personality" which means you are more likely to agree with the black with the bllack person, which means you are more likely to be seen as that. And the same goes for every race/culture.

Justmeandmyself yup. And many still dont understand. Thats why this video is important. The message is clear and straightforward.
reason why gambino made it so unclear is so that people think about it. They analsy it, they do research to it. And true this song is way more clearer but Donald most def left a message. “There’s two sides to every story, I wish that I knew yours”
@Rafael orozco this song explains both sides of a perspective. It’s true regardless the person you judge off the cover of who they are and the more you know about it makes your judgement in your head more justified
Everyone will judge off cover and if you don’t then your the most peaceful man the world has ever seen since everyone has done it
@Rafael orozco the average person is not racist.
What’s there to know about? As a Latino I’ve been victimized more by the black community than any other race.
That’s all I need to know
@@twintrbo92 Honestly though.

You need to see beyond the ideal.

This is the most beautiful thing I've heard in a long time. Lucas nailed it. Very Powerful. Much Love ♥️
Heronaconite Agreed.
haVocHWC3 Indeed.
Y’all shouldn’t be surprised this song is still relevant. Racism has been going on it just hasn’t been recorded.

Racism has been going on and recorded and will continue for all eternity. But it is a lot better that 30 years ago, 60 years ago, etc. etc.
Nah it’s beeeen being recorded. It just took George’s life to really let these mfs know we past tired of the fukkkkkery. Ahmed’s death was the last warning. The best thing about this is we have many races that feel the same as we do protesting with us. That speaks volumes...

Also no it’s not matter of thinking it’s hearing majority opinions, not his thought of what a side thinks. Go check your research before assume shit you don’t even know.
MusicMan420, Preach.
Lol, go to sleep.
wowserouisly Im liking this argument... let's be fucking REAL, none of us know what the majority think... we are going off what we see in the news. Let alone an educated LATINO (and I mean SELF EDUCATED AND ENLIGHTENED... not government schooled) Peace ✌🏼 we're all gods
actually made me tear up. this song is POWER!
Wow I expected this to be a one sided rap. First time watching, and i'm amazed that both sides are represented. Actually opened my mind a bit
This. I went into this fully expecting the white dude to be the bad guy. But it pointed out the bad parts of both sides and showed a common ground can be met. This is honestly one of the best music videos I've seen in a LONG time and one we really need nowadays.
@@cameronkelley1268 Well. Neither guys are the bad guys.
@@connorkimbral3034 they both victims in this cruel messed up society
@@rjp4716 No. What I'm saying is there isn't a 'good side' or a 'bad side'.
WhyEXE yes
This guy is underrated he is keeping the lyrical part of rap
Rextix.q.x.z *20+ million views*
Lyrics are straight forward though 🤔
He's keeping the poetry alive.
This comment right here is truth. I feel like it will disappear underneath all the bullshit and it’s shame. I totally agree though.
I'd hate to see rap that isn't lyrical. Helen Keller rap
Lil Marzid I know. My mom is white even though my grandparents r not. So wen my mom is with us it looks weird to people
Lil Marzid same, my moms white and my dad is hispanic and i look like my mom, whenever im with my dad people always give us looks and my friends ask if im adopted
Thank you for sharing your story it touched me
Lil Marzid wow
Sad how you're still going to grow up and became a cop to shoot blacks. I know it's a part of your culture, but it's a shame. The hate in your heart is truly disgusting.
Love this song so much
Joyner lucas goes in soo hard on this right here! Only reason he is getting more hits is cuz he is just watching that short on my channel explaining how all these rappers out here be blowing up so big
This stuff with Ahmaud Arbery brought me here again. Stay up everyone. Love to all.
@ Also the owner of the home stated that nothing was stolen or damaged in the property at all. Ahmaud Arbery was truly just a man going for a jog.
@ Are you a boomer
infections 84 no that was just footage and in it you would see that there is no evidence that he stole anything
It's like Joyner Lucas knew it was coming
Danielson racism has always been a thing
Fax but I mean like 2020 was when it was exposed the most
Danielson na I’d say like the 50’s and that
