Fellas, Van wrote this. Fun fact: Van started out as a jazz/r&b saxophonist.

He also played piano, guitar, and harmonica, starting out in Irish show bands as a teenager eventually coming to prominence in a rock band, Them, with such songs as "Gloria", "Here Comes the Night", "Mystic Eyes", and a great version of an old blues tune, "Baby Please Don't Go" which I would rank with Animals' version of "House of the Rising Sun"...

Classic tune. Nice to see you guys exploring Van. If you can fit it in I'd try any one song or the entire Astral Weeks album.

His vocals are phrased like sax solos and choruses. Sax man for sure.
The original, btw, not a cover.

You aren't trying hard enough😀. He deliberately recorded some awful songs (ringworm, want a Danish etc) to get out of his contract. They're on TH-cam.

This and Brown Eyed Girl are his biggest radio tunes... but his rabbit lives very, very deep down in the hole! Van is kinda like Steely Dan... both in how he mixes genres so well to create his own, unmistakable sound... and that he just finds great musicians (and they want to work on his stuff, and has a rep for being a taskmaster at times) for both his recordings and his touring bands.

Van writes 99% of his songs, writes and arranges his music, writes his own horn charts. He ptoduces, plays saxophone, harmonica, guitar, keys. He is the band leader. When he makes an album he delivers it complete, ready to press a disc and distribute. He’s made more than 50 studio and live recordings and released at least 80 singles.

Van wrote this song, so he is not covering somebody else's composition. Van used to hang out in Mill Valley in Marin County just North of the Golden Gate Bridge coming into San Francisco. Van was working on this song for a long time, drinking at the Silver Dollar bar at night, good Irishman, hanging with the locals trying to get away from the world of expectations and enjoying life. He wrote this song about that time.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. You guys are amazing.
I love reaction videos of things I love, in general.
I get to experience things I love with others.
But not only that. I get to experience what I love through their ears and/or eyes.
I get to see and hear things through the experience of someone else.
Like reaction videos let me hear and see things I’d never seen.
Maybe it’s because Ive taken these thing’s for granted.
Every time I hear a song, I hear it through the lens I’ve already given it.
You know what they about first impressions. They last, a long time.
Thing’s like to stay the same unless altered by some outside force.
I also love you guys because of your music knowledge. “I’ve heard this before, somewhere”.
I love music lineage. How bands formed? What circumstances brought them together? Where the ideas for songs came from? etc.
And then you come in. With, who has sampled it and/or, what your personal connection with the song, singer, riff, style, and how it makes you feel.
    That’s what I like.

Hey fellas since you enjoy listening to Van Morrison. I have a suggestion for another artist that is similar in style as VM, if interested. "Lady Blue (Extended Remix) Leon Russell" (by the channel: Ellis) this is a live performance of him playing piano. Leon Russel was an American musician, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who was involved with numerous best-selling records during his 60-yr. career that spanned across many different genres of music. He worked with artists like Dylan, George Harrison, Elton John just to name a few. My mother was a big fan of both Van Morrison and Leon Russell, so I grew up listening to these beautiful tunes. Thanks for sharing

Moondance" is a song recorded by Northern Irish singer and songwriter Van Morrison and is the title song on his third studio album Moondance (1970). It was written by Morrison, and produced by Morrison and Lewis Merenstein.
Morrison did not release the song as a single until September 1977, seven and a half years after the album was released. It debuted two months later where it reached #92, on the US Billboard Hot 100[2] and #91 on the US Cash Box Top 100[3] The single's B-side, "Cold Wind in August", had been released in the same year, on his latest album at the time, A Period of Transition.
"Moondance" is the song that Van Morrison plays most frequently in concert.[4]
