I purchased an American Deluxe Tele from a collector. I've never connected with a guitar like this one. Put a set of 9's on it and played it in the pit for three different musicals. I had never played a Tele before and now it's tough to put down. Played through a pedals and a Vox AC15C1. It it's amazing. Locking tuners, noiseless pickups, 6 adjustable saddles, belly cut. Very comfortable.
I built a hand wired fender Princeton reverb from MoJo Tone with a Celestion speaker, landed a used PRS S2 Standard (I consider it my Les Paul), and the Barber/5 watt Buss is sooooooooo musical. I love it.
I bought the 5W Barber BUSS pedal 2 months ago. My standard is always "do I like it at a gig?". The answer is unequivocally YES. It's clean, it pops, it cuts through the band volume and it is especially full with a neck humbucker or P90. Highly recommended.
There is something really funny about inspiration or mojo. I used a Strandberg for about a year and didn't quite gel with it, but it all makes sense on paper. The main guitar I record with is a Gibson 339. Upper fret access is terrible, no contours, and I had the neck shaven down a bit since it was gigantic. But I always write something rad when I pick it up and its by far the most flexible guitar I've owned. So it stays haha.
The Poly Verbs reverb pedal is probably the most inspiring pedal I’ve gotten this year for all of its fantastic ambient sounds. This year I did get the tried and true Boss RV-3, which has also been incredible and very inspiring. Other than that, it’s been a pretty light year for gear acquisition, which ultimately is the best thing. More playing less shopping.
Great Episode! Here is my 2024 list. Amp-Bad Cat Hot Cat 45 watt Head with the 2x12 matching cab. Very versatile amp and takes pedals extremely well! Guitar-PRS DC-3 which unfortunately ended up having pick up issue so my Luthier cut a new pick guard and I decided on Lollar Dirty Blondes which are very very nice single coil pickups. Pedal- J Rocket Audio Animal pedal(the original with the snarl switch!). But my best 2024 new to me additions are the PRS Signature Guitar Cables built by Van Damme in London England. They are thin and sit flat on the floor/stage. They dont tangle and They do not add or take away anything, the tone is your guitar through your amp! And they are on sale everywhere! But thats it! NO MORE Gear!(😂😂😅).
My best gear acquisions this year: Pedal - EHX Glove (gets me the closest to the proverbial 'tone inside my head' when stacked with a Duke of Tone) Amp - Blackstar HT-5R MkII (2 channels, both clean & OD sounding great, with an EQ, XLR out via PA, headphone, & USB connections, and an effects loop for under $600) Guitar - Fender 50s JV Modified Telecaster (immaculate fit & finish with a 'Soft V' neck that's the most comfortable & playable I've ever experienced)
Oh well, I just got my MusicMan 75 retubed and cleaned up, might as well mention it, an Amp I bought in 1984, my first real amp! Built in like ‘77 I believe essentially a Bassman with midrange controls, but SS preamp, EL 34 output tubes
PRS SE CE 24 in Black Cherry. Wife lost her job in winter and most of my collection went to pay the bills, including my SE Custom 24. (I was down to a few cheap modded Squiers not worth selling) 😢 Finally back in a place to afford a PRS SE, but went for the SE CE to save a little. Despite being a satin one piece neck instead of gloss 3 piece, otherwise the guitar feels and sounds the same as the set neck. After years of not liking the Tube Screamer circuit I got a cheap Fulldrive 3 because it sounds unique, and I like a drive+boost.
Thanks for the shout out Keith! In Dublin working today and see you in Paris! M'y discoveries this year: Rickenbacker 620, my tech 21 trademark 60 AMP and my métronome
Apropos to the "Buy Once, Cry Once" motif, my pedal of the year is the HX Stomp. I resisted buying one due to the price so instead I had traditional efx pedals and tried the Tonex then the Two Notes Opus. Neither really floated my boat so after trying and HX I finally sold my traditional pedals, the Opus and haven't looked back. I now have a much smaller board that does everything I need it to do. The HX Stomp is a great pedal and while I won't say it is as good as an actual amp it's damn close.
I've held off on buying anything similar to that only because the technology changes so quickly and fear being stuck with a thousand dollar brick a year or two later...and as a bedroom rockstar I don't necessarily need one either...maybe after tech plateaus for a bit I'll pull the trigger on something
I bought 3 things this year. Pedal is an American loopers’ programmable looper/switcher. Amp is a fender blues deluxe reissue 4x10 with the blue speakers and guitar was a Gibson ES335 natural dot 59 historic series unpotted custombuckers paper and oil caps etc These are the things I’ve loved this year.
Loving my 'Dark Light' pedal from OBNE and my 'Knife Drop' from Eventide and Third Man Hardware; my amp of choice is my Blues Deluxe tube combo amp; and my guitars are my JazzMaster AVRI, my Gibson Les Paul Standard '50s, and my 2017 Gibson Firebird V (HP)! Thank-You for yet ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO, Keith!!! 🐺
In 2024 I picked up both of 5WW/Barber pedals, a 12" leslie rotating speaker unit, and took an amp building seminar and electronics theory seminar(3 days each) with Bruce Egnater in Detroit.
My 3 scores for the year were all guitars, I haven't changed my amp in 20 years, no real need, my AC15 with a Creamback in it, does everything I want. So the guitars. I traded a '58 reissue double cut Junior for a 2011 Les Paul Traditional. It's a great guitar. Also in the deal was an Epiphone Dot VS, that I'm pretty sure has never been played. It needs the dirty frets cleaned up, and that will happen on the weekend, along with new strings. The third one, I made/assembled it. It's a Tele body, a Strat neck, and the single coil P90 style pickups/controls came from a Chibson. It's a beast. It's light, it palys really well, and sounds great. It probably cost me no more than $500 Australian. Everyone have a great Xmas from Sputnik, Kay, and me, here in our bit of Australia.🇦🇺🐾❤️
Pedal: Peterson Strobostomp. Amp: Mesa Fillmore 25 Head and Mesa 1x12 wide cab. Guitar: Eastman Juliette P90VR. 2024 has been a very good year! The mesa and Eastman are both just so good!
Your comment about skill level and gear on this stream jumped out to me. I’m a novice but I love to play. I’ve been watching 5 Watt which lead me to Psionic where and the amp rabbit hole. 😂 I felt I was ready to move up from my Fender Champion 40. So I ordered a Swart Space Tone 6VSE today…. Honestly I had never heard of them before. lol Thanks for the education and inspiration!!!🙏🙏
I had two Les Paul Deluxes in the 1970s. One was stolen, and I don't remember what happened to the second. A little brighter than a full-sized humbucker. Nice guitar that they've reissued several times. They used Epiphone pickups that fit the route that original was for P-90s.
The biggest purchase I made this year was a TC Electronics Sub N Up mini I already have e the full size, but I use that on my guitar and the mini with bass. It’s versatile and adds texture and depth, especially if playing with a smaller group. Ones I use the most that I really like are a Dunlop High Gain volume pedal, a Danelectro Fab Chorus and an Empress Distortion But the others are cool too.
Ya but now I gotta save... im not a "pro" like y'all and not a you tuber... but wow what an amazing pedal. And was listening just on my cell phone, even with the tiny speaker I could clearly hear how amazing that Plus pedal is.
I was lucky enough to grab one of the new Fender Player II Strats a month ago. As a lefty living in Ireland, this is a trickier prospect than you'd think. All of the appointments were exactly what I was looking for and until Fender came out with the Player II, I was looking at having to create my own (which would have been pricey). Thrilled with it and after an initial setup, it's quickly taken over the #1 spot in the arsenal.
Definitely check out the PRS S2 McCarty 594 Thinline unless you absolutely want the SG look. It was recommended as a SG alternative to me around 2 years ago and I sold my original SG within a month. Far more comfortable, more versatile, and absolutely occupies the same space in a mix. My guitar of this year is the D'Angelico Deluxe Bob Weir 3 (in 'matte stone') - always wanted something with TV Jones humbuckers and that one just smokes.
Pedal: Man, it's still the Keeley Halo - hard to every beat that. Amp: Carr Rambler (with added Master Volume circuit). Guitar(s): Sire S7, H7, T7TV and L7V. For the money and quality, it's almost impossible to beat Sire. Also, for all of you looking to grab a Universal Audio Dream '65 (after all of the shout-outs from this video), I just put up a Mint one on my Reverb store (Steven's Store). Just in time for Christmas, eh? Keith - just love your channel!
The last guitar I bought was closing in on two years ago. It’s an Epiphone Les Paul Special (P 90s) I love it, especially the neck. It’s still the one I play the most, lots of fun to play, and did I mention the neck? I play other ones and love them all, but the Special is, well quite special.
Haven't bought much this year. I have my eye on a couple of JHS pedals. I did buy an Aclam fuzz pedal called The Mocker, which emulates the fuzz circuit of the Vox UL730 that the Beatles used on Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt. Pepper, Magical Mystery Tour, stuff like that. It's a lot of fun!
I put together a small board this year. A tuner, a Timmy, a Notaklon which is a really good pedal, and a JHS 3 Hall Reverb. All this is new to me, but it’s a fun board. Also new to me a mid 2000s Mexican Strat 1960 copy hardtail. Put some work into it and it’s great now.
Late again… Favorite Pedal - Walrus Slo Reverb Favorite Amp - Boss Katana 100w Favorite Guitar: had to pick 2 - Custom built from gifted parts Telecaster and a 2013 Gibson Firebird
I caved this year and bought a couple things I swore I never would- simply because they were so popular and common, I wanted to do something different. But I have to admit, "they" knew what they were talking about this time. I got a PRS, the SE Paul's Guitar- and I am still in love with it and think I always will be, it's easily the best guitar I've ever owned. Only issue is the cheap tuners and the fact that they're the vintage style, which means you can't swap to the SE locking tuners without drilling new mounting screw holes and filling the old ones. And I bought a Strymon Big Sky reverb- couldn't resist once I heard it. It's the best reverb I've ever had, I'm sure there are other as good or better but, they're out of my reach financially. Besides, this does what I need done- it's all the reverb I need and then some. Also bought a JHS Flight Delay but, they back ordered it on me, I haven't gotten it yet. I bought the JHS Violet a couple weeks back- it's amazing as well- one of the best drives I've ever used, I think. I know a lot of drives claim to do both low gain overdrive and high gain distortion- but this one really does, and it does both of them exceptionally well. It has a really potent EQ section to so you can use it to shape other drives or your clean tone- sounds great.
@@stoneysdead689 tip for you, get a hi quality wire and potentiometer kit, turned my SE hollow into a way better sounding guitar, it’s amazing what good wire and hardware can do for any guitar, not even PU’s are as dramatic an improvement as good switches pots and wiring
Boss/JHS Angry Driver, very handy, midrangy Marshall to full on mayhem 2 drives in one pedal, add the JHS switch to toggle. Parallel or series, stacking is fun! If I buy the Buss pedal, I may put it after the Xotic boost now, you said it would work!!!
In 2024 I did not buy a single guitar, bass, amp, or pedal. I did buy a MacBook Air, though, as well as a notched straight edge for bass, a set of Shure SE215 Pro earbuds, a Klein Tools Multimeter, and a stand for my Alesis Performance Pad Pro. Oh, and a Star Trek Next Generation red uniform, for I am a massive nerd. Still, it's a massive win for me to get through an entire year without buying a new guitar. Of course, the year isn't over yet...
@@nelliejones1 i couldn’t decide between that & the Dark Glass Hyper Luminal But the Dark Glass fit my fly rig board, smaller, thinner, if I get another compressor it will be the Empress…☺️
think i only got 1 pedal this year a MXR Super Bad Ass Distortion and i dig it. Didnt get an amps, very happy with my Sunn SL 160 and my Peavy Mark III w/ 15" Rolle at home guitars I got 3 this year (I got rid of 4 or 5 believe it or not) An old 80's Harmony V, A Yamaha Acoustic, and my pick of the 3 the cheapo baritone tele
I missed the stream, but… here are my (standout) gear of 2024… Amp(s): 2024 Standel 25C20 and 1972-75 Ampeg VT-22… Pedal(s): Basic Audio Scarab Deluxe Fuzz…
agree. bought mine because i heard it from the guitarist at my local jazz bar, sounded amazing then he told me it wasnt tube and weighed nothing, blew my mind.
Keith, SG ergonomic suggestion, get a snap connecter (fence part, spring loaded clip at each end) attach one end to your belt, the other end to your strap right in front of of the bridge side strap button, no more neck dive……
@ yes, when I pick up my SG after playing the RevStar, it feels very weird, the RevStar is like a second skin, very well engineered guitar, it sits right where I like it and never moves !
I really liked the JHS Notaklon. I know it came out late last year but it took a while to get to me. There was a new Paul Gilbert Fireman with three mini humbuckers that I didn't expect to like as much as I did but I love it. Would have bought it if I didn't get a second Ernie Ball St Vincent which is strangely comfortable on dadbods.
@ ⚓️ Happy Holidays 🌈 I have learned so much from you guys, I came to the channel when Rick had mentioned 5WW in early 2018. Weren’t you on Everything Music in that first half of ‘18? ⚓️ Thanks Keith 🌈
Picked up a Dr Z Maz 18 and has been great. Have never bonded with an amp in this way before. Love it.Also got the Room 40 pedal the best MIAB pedal I have played to date.
I don’t get the issues with the SG shape and build. I love mine and switch between it to a fender Tele all the time, I don’t feel like it’s a dramatic shift. I play sitting down with it between my legs though, and the SG is perfect for that, 335 too. Try the SG sitting with it kind of classic style
In order to buy pedals I need to buy another a amp. I think the stage 3 amp from monoprice a copy of the Fe Der version, because I'm restricted for noise.
Hello Keith! When you say that you are going to get a sticker made for the face plate of your deluxe, where do you go for that? I assume that that would be a sticker made with the correct fender font, etc.? Thanks! Aaron
@ Well, if you get something figured out, that is excellent, and don’t mind passing it along, I would sure appreciate it! Bruce Zinky belt to custom amp for me that has a similar blank spot on the face plate that I would like to put my moniker on. I call it the “Other Amp Killer.” Bruce asked, “what is the other amp?” I said, “it doesn’t matter.”😂
Title was rather confusing as it seems like it would be referring to gear that came out this year not the gear people have been using over the last twelve months.
Sorry Keith, but I saw the photo of you in that goofy hat and briefly, the title appeared to read "Geek of the Year, 2024". When I finished laughing, I realized what it actually said, but still... ya know?
@@fivewattworld I'm sorry, but I have had a couple of bad and completely negative interactions with him. He's not the kindest or most patient person to his fans. I am not being a troll towards him. Don't tell folks your here to help and then shame them for their choice of Amp and then give horrible advice on how to repair it.
The deluxe is the classic les paul because of Blind Owl Wilson. You whippersnapper. Sheesh. Todays young'uns don't know no history. Sheesh. (Although Wilson played a P90 gold top. Still that's a gorgeous guitar you've got there.)
My big gear purchase this year was an se Paul's Guitar. Super versatile and sounds great. Pedal would have to be the ross distortion. Still saving for an amp for the rig. So for now it would probably have to be my silent solution, a quilter phantom block.

think i only got 1 pedal this year a MXR Super Bad Ass Distortion and i dig it.
Didnt get an amps, very happy with my Sunn SL 160 and my Peavy Mark III w/ 15" Rolle at home
guitars I got 3 this year (I got rid of 4 or 5 believe it or not) An old 80's Harmony V, A Yamaha Acoustic, and my pick of the 3 the cheapo baritone tele
Fender Player II Tele Chambered Mahogany with maple neck around 6lbs…love the neck and tone
Bought Woodrow and a Pog 3(pedal steel sounds). The new Redwing modulation sounds great, but I will wait.
I missed the stream, but… here are my (standout) gear of 2024… Amp(s): 2024 Standel 25C20 and 1972-75 Ampeg VT-22… Pedal(s): Basic Audio Scarab Deluxe Fuzz…
Still my Tone Master Deluxe Reverb Blond amp. It is still stunning
Same. Best gigging amp ever.
agree. bought mine because i heard it from the guitarist at my local jazz bar, sounded amazing then he told me it wasnt tube and weighed nothing, blew my mind.
The best thing this year is the chroma console gets used by me on everything now
Wait, you bought the SG at Watchtower? That's a fantastic shop that I live close to!
I did…and the Les Paul Deluxe.
Keith, SG ergonomic suggestion, get a snap connecter (fence part, spring loaded clip at each end) attach one end to your belt, the other end to your strap right in front of of the bridge side strap button, no more neck dive……
Not neck dive now. It just feels far off.
Would have bought it if I didn't get a second Ernie Ball St Vincent which is strangely comfortable on dadbods.
free lick intro!
⚓️ Thanks Keith 🌈 2007 Squire Affinity Strat straight to a Boss Katana ⚓️ other guitar G&L ASAT Legacy 2020 ⚓️ or the Epiphone EL-00 Pro 2016 ⚓️
Thanks for being here Keith
@ ⚓️ Happy Holidays 🌈 I have learned so much from you guys, I came to the channel when Rick had mentioned 5WW in early 2018. Weren’t you on Everything Music in that first half of ‘18? ⚓️ Thanks Keith 🌈
Amp: Mesa boogie Fillmore, 50, with an Ox
Pedals, pedals, pedals. If I could only have one...The Rat - original 1984. What am I using this year? Warm Drive, Revv G2, Gamma Drive, OCD, Vemuram
Players are changing out the pickup to get the STRAT sound and it's close to to the neck
The pickup
"new" amp = '57 Custom Champ!!!! Five watts and the truth is often correct. Travel well friends.
In order to buy pedals I need to buy another a amp. I think the stage 3 amp from monoprice a copy of the Fe Der version, because I'm restricted for noise.
Well, the Buss is dusty cause it never leaves your board LOL
I've got a Blues Driver.
Magnatone baby m80!!

Hello Keith! When you say that you are going to get a sticker made for the face plate of your deluxe, where do you go for that? I assume that that would be a sticker made with the correct fender font, etc.? Thanks! Aaron
Not sure yet
@ Well, if you get something figured out, that is excellent, and don’t mind passing it along, I would sure appreciate it! Bruce Zinky belt to custom amp for me that has a similar blank spot on the face plate that I would like to put my moniker on. I call it the “Other Amp Killer.” Bruce asked, “what is the other amp?” I said, “it doesn’t matter.”😂
Freeway Jam -esque....
The band is rocking!
Any way to get your Barber pedals in Europe without paying more for the shiping than for the pedal? Cheers buddy!
Shipping is usually about $40usd
@@barberelectronics5672 Thank! Any link to a sales point? The Reverb link doesn't work (maybe it's bacause I'm located in Belgium)
Oh my god this dude can talk
Thanks?
now i have to buy that pedal.......crap i didnt need a new pedal
Title was rather confusing as it seems like it would be referring to gear that came out this year not the gear people have been using over the last twelve months.
Sorry Keith, but I saw the photo of you in that goofy hat and briefly, the title appeared to read "Geek of the Year, 2024". When I finished laughing, I realized what it actually said, but still... ya know?
I emailed Lyle a couple of times to see if he could "go over" my '68 Silverface Twin. He never responded. NEVER!
Maybe he's a jerk?
He is not. He’s just busy.
@@fivewattworld Yeah right... that was two years ago. How did you get service?
@@fivewattworld I'm sorry, but I have had a couple of bad and completely negative interactions with him. He's not the kindest or most patient person to his fans. I am not being a troll towards him. Had it been a one time event I would have let it go, but it was twice so to me that indicates a pattern. I understand that he is your friend and you see him in a different way.
Chapters PLEASE!
How do I get on the live chat?
Be there during the broadcast
Keith what about the least music from the most gear😂
Ha! I used to have shirt that said that actually
Keeley halo
My big gear purchase this year was an se Paul's Guitar. Super versatile and sounds great.
Pedal would have to be the ross distortion.
Still saving for an amp for the rig. So for now it would probably have to be my silent solution, a quilter phantom block.
Currently running the ross distortion as a dirty boost with the gain all the way off. Sounds great through the bassman model on my champion 50xl
00:00 Not a fan of 100% composed solos.
Not a solo per se, riffs.
@ Still falls flat musically if you ask me. Sounds contrived.
WHAT THOUGHT you were a Tele man
