  • I purchased the "Fork Solution kit" from Procycle that contains Springs, Drop in cartridge emulators and oil. How to video of installation the fork solution kit. I was told by Procycle not to use the factory Suzuki spacers but Cogent Dynamics instructions say USE the Spacers and I found through my assembly you need to USE THE STOCK SPACERS. Hope this video helps someone??

    I'm glad some people like recording their DR650 maintenance, because I hate recording, but I love watching :)

      Not the best or most professional videos but hopefully it can help someone. I did post another video on installing the Springs and cartridges in my 2013 from my original 2006 DR650. Take care.

    Thanks for the video. I’m going to do the same with my DR650 and it’s nice to see how straightforward the job is. I’ve never disassembled forks before and didn’t know what to expect. 👍🏻

    Thanks for the video. I will also use the factory spacer instead of the gray PVC oval shaped (not round ) 1"ID Oval (1.26"-1.36") OD, 7" long factory reject PVC pipe they sent with my straight rate Cogent fork springs. This is the first PVC pipe I ever saw hat was not round. LOL The PVC had me worried.
    I can get a round 1" ID schedule 80 PVC 12" long from Amazon for $9 if I need it but I doubt I will. I think the stock spacers will work if all the washers are in the tubes. I'll buy some if I need to.
    Much disappointment as usual

      Glad that you got it figured out and your ready to roll. I'm very happy with mine but do have plans to try a set of DRZ400 SM upside down front end on the DR650. Thank You.

      Ha ha it comes with the territory Sheriff.
      I actually did a quick drain/refill video yesterday. I’ll get it out.
      While I’m waiting on the steering bearing puller. I drained the old original fork oil out and put in new. Just so everything’s freshen up.
      I went to Marks nuts and bolts after work today and found the perfect size washer to put on top the upper bearing.
      I was so stoked!!!
      Marks is a huge store.
      So I’m guessing you have a fork kit coming??

    Are you happy with results of DDC cartridges and springs? BTW what windscreen is on your bike ? Thx

    • @verbalwidget7267
      @verbalwidget7267  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yes, I am very happy with the new springs and DDC's it makes a noticeable difference in the front end off the road in the bumps and whoop outs, and on the road the fork dive is all but gone and the front end doesn't wallow around on the road. I had this set up in both DR650's and really brings out the best in the bike. Thank You.

    600cc and 600mL are the same thing. And 600mL of water weighs 600 grams which is 0.6 of 1 litre (which weighs 1 kilogram). Exactly why the metric system rocks.

      Verbal Widget thanks for the vid. I just finished watching that other guys video with flat go pro so it’s funny you mentioned it. I’m just wondering if I can use these on my sv650X. They make them for the standard sv650 but mine has adjustable preload.

      @@SirSpinalColumn Hi, I am not sure if these would fit your bike? The guys at ProCycle or Cogent would know. You don't want to spend that kind of money and not have them work 100% or not fit after getting the forks apart. Thank You

    So are you suppose to add the spacers or no??

    • @verbalwidget7267
      @verbalwidget7267  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, on the spacer. Procycle said no but it is a definite YES. On their behalf maybe there was a misunderstanding?
      DOC650 just did a video on his installation of the springs and cartridges, which is very good to check out. Big difference. You will love them!

    My 2013 stock DR650 only has the lower washers (between spring and spacer), not the top ones (between spacer and caps). Did you have 2 washers per fork, or just 1? I put in PVC preload spacers, and now I have to go 2 more washers.

    • @verbalwidget7267
      @verbalwidget7267  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jon, I had to go back and refresh my memory. Only one washer and one spacer per leg.
      I should take the video you watched down, because I posted another video when I swapped over the springs and drop in cartridge from my 2006 DR650 to my 2013 DR650 before I sold the older bike. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

    • @verbalwidget7267
      @verbalwidget7267  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, You know for what the bike is..Yes I am very happy with the results. The forks are much better in the bumps and do not dive during braking like before. Much safer. Are they as good as say the stock XR650 Cartridge forks or USD forks...No.
      But this is a 360 pound "trail bike" I chose the Cogent because they were drop in and go. I heard with the Race Tech you had to drill holes in the damper rods. I need to get the rear spring I have on the bike. Just not enough hours in a week anymore? ;-)

    Thanks! The directions from Cogent regarding the spacer were not clear at all. I reads as if cogent springs with ddc use no spacer but it obviously does.

      I'm glad that it helped, thank you for watching. I was confused because when i called ProCycle they said no spacer?? Which was not true.
      The forks work much better now.

    • @calmistheway
      @calmistheway 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually I just did this and the directions do call for OEM spacers to be used in step 10 if using the Cogent springs -
      ** 10. Install spring with the OEM washer at the top. Install the OEM spacer or cut a spacer if you are not using a Cogent spring to provide correct spring preload (8mmin most cases). **
      I'm not sure where the confusion is coiming in. The idea is to get that cap to be 8mm above the rim when its touching the spring with full extension. You are chaning the oil and springs and adding the DDC - the Cogent spring is at such a length that when you put in the DDC and the OEM spacer and washer you get the 8mm preload when you tighten down the cap.

    I'm worried now after watching this because I ordered the fork and ddc kit for my dr650 and having a local suzuki shop do it for me because I'm not a mechanical type of guy unless I have to be because I don't have the tools or the space or the know how to do that type of thing. But it seems like it could be confusing and I don't trust most dealership mechanics because the mechanics do not seem to really know what they are talking about on alot of things

    • @verbalwidget7267
      @verbalwidget7267  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, You know if it were me, I would go to the Shop and just mention that to make sure to use the spacers. I believe the directions say that, it was the guy at procycle that gave me the wrong information that confused everything.
      It is a straight forward job, your mechanic will be fine.
      I really like the action of the forks since installing them.
      Thank you for watching.
