Both of these games are similar on certain levels, but Paradox is a large company whereas the RTW3 devs are like 2 60yo guys in a basement making a game for fun so it is visually about 9506% worse.
You know, battles in this game are surprisingly hype and fast pace if you play in fast/normal speed which is surprising considering the map looks like a legitimate navigational aid for mariners.
3:05 premier pro moment Edit: Sequel(s) will be coming! In which, I will talk about a bunch of naval games I have played: (RTW, UAD, Pacific fleet, From the depths, and more!). Expect it to be way more polished as well.
Really wished for third freaking game they would fix the map by either making historical borders or removing borders overall. It's utterly immersion breaking seeing modern borders century ago.
Rule the waves 3 is great apart from the battle generator in my last game as the UK I had a a 5 to 1 numerical superiority in a sea zone with a massive fleet of BBs. The battle generator decided it would be funny to keep generating battles where one or two of my CLs faced the entire enemy fleet with capital ships. This happed six times in a row until my government surrendered my overwhelming fleet never once bothering to show up.
Clearly the enemy force brutally and unfairly attacked during internationally sanctioned tea time. You are the real victor, as the enemy fought with no class.
Omg I remember playing classic RTW to death a few years back but got bored with it after 3 months of obssesive playing. I didn't even know there was a sequel and now I'm seeing a video on a third version? Of all things never thought RTW would be a trilogy lol
It's incredible to me that this game convinces me to grind away at fleet building for hour or even days just for a half hour fleet battle were I crush my enemys
RTW isn't as micro heavy as Aurora. You don't have to, for example, individually design each gun and missile. The core RTW loop is ship design and fleet management, with wars and battles interspersing.
@@RunicRhino22 Oh yeah, me too sometimes. Aurora 4x is also my jam when I feel up to it. Playing a lot of Workers and Resources on fully realistic mode at the moment.

Man I love the fact that there's a new resurgence in naval games, admittedly they are mostly half assed. RTW and Atlantic fleet are the best turn based naval games rn and it has been like that for the last 7 years. Wots has just been unable to live up to expectations and UAD is just...bland. atleast TFA and other stuff is on the horizon. Anyways nice vid my dood, love the editing you should have more subs
Eh, Ultimate Admiral Dreadnoughts has its issues, but it also has a bunch of features that RTW doesn't ON TOP of being more graphically intensive. Not to mention RTW3 is missing stuff that was already implemented in RTW2 and were pretty essential to the experience (custom initial fleets and historical/balance budgets).
Honestly got into navy stuff in hoi4 ... where else... and I was kinda disappointed in how badly it was fleshed out in that game, even with man the guns tho it is better then. Really excited to try these games, the graphics aren't it anyway. Also hope that deathstacking like 4000 destroyers isn't going to be as strong as in Hoi...
Man said Ultimate admiral is bad while playing a powerpoint presentation. In all seriousness, i do like Ultimate admiral, though there is a lot of work that needs to be donw with it.
BOOT GAME I love this game, I got started with RtW2 after reading some AARs and I love it, best waifu rpg management sim ever, Yamato my beloved (i am attracted to deeply stupid ships)
This seems great, but I'd highly recommend Ultimate Admiral: Dreadnoughts if you want something a little less autistic. It's got a lot of the same mechanics except way better graphics, at the cost of slightly worse controls, and designing ships in it is way, way more fun.
You got a point, but a would say the 2 are very different games. If you like good graphics, want to design ships and are really interested in WW1 naval combat, then I would recommend ultimate admiral dreadnoughts. If you want a more strategy based game, want to design ships, don’t care about graphics, and want to manage a navy over a long period of time, then I would recommend rule the waves.
The game is getting killed in Steam reviews. It looks interesting but I'm concerned about that. What's your experience with it and are there other comparable games you've played?
@@jonathanbelfire Honestly I wasn't even aware it was getting bad steam reviews. I've personally been having a very good time with it and it's been a recent favorite of mine with nearly 200 hours played total. The strange thing for me is most reviews are saying it's buggy when I haven't experienced a bug since early-access beta where they were just introducing the campaign and it wasn't fully ready yet, which makes sense to have bugs then. The only real criticism I have of the game is that honestly the campaign AI kinda sucks - but that makes sense as it's hard to make a good strategic AI that is tough to beat but not so hard as to be unwinnable against. That, and it does take a bit long when you start a new campaign but that's only because it's generating history and is only a one time thing. As for games to compare it to, it's a little hard because there's nothing directly comparable, and I'd rather not give false expectations of what it is. Really the core of the game is based around the ship designer which works kind of similar to games like Sprocket or Besieged - except for ships between 1890 to 1950 (excluding aircraft carriers) - and the battle mode, which is kind of like the modern Total War games naval battles except way more fleshed out with better controls and stuff like penetration mechanics and ship modules. That's why one of the most fun modes of the game is the Naval Academy where you're given a bunch of scenarios (Like 60 in total) and have to design ships around the challenges presented in the scenarios and lead them to victory in battle. On the other hand there's also the Campaign mode, which is again kind of like Total War where you have the campaign map and the tactical battles, where the campaign map is a somewhat simplified version of this game with much better graphics and better albeit simplified UI, where you get to design your fleet and send them into tactical battles during wartime. It's important to note here though that despite the similarity the campaign mode is not on the same level as grand strategy games like Total War or Paradox's games, as control is limited to only the navy of the country you're playing as you're the country's naval secretary essentially. It's thus more closer to Silent Hunter's campaign where it's more for facilitation of the design and battle aspects of the game - the core of the game - rather than intended to be a deep simulation of nations in the dreadnought period. Thus if you like games where you design stuff to fix problems, this is absolutely a game you'll enjoy, especially if you do also enjoy some strategy too as the campaign mode offers that on top. On the other hand you might be a bit more disappointed in the game if you're going into it solely for it's strategy elements.
