  • The Woodlot Expo at the Canada’s Outdoor Farm Show site near Woodstock is the longest standing display of it’s kind in Ontario. Established 24 years ago when the show moved to it’s Woodstock location, the Woodlot Expo has been supported by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food, the Ministry of Natural Resources, local Conservation Authorities and Lakehead University. The original focus of the woodlot was to demonstrate using a variety of tree species to encourage wildlife to stay in the trees to feed, rather than venturing into neighbouring field crops. Since then, the woodlot has grown to showcase that planting and management of trees can increase both economic and environmental benefits to producers. Well managed woodlots, shelterbelts and windbreaks provide a wide range of positive effects on farm production - from harvesting lumber, heating fuel and nuts to reducing soil erosion and increasing crop yields, establishing habitat for wildlife and pollinators, and providing buffer strips, trees on farms have been proven to be a valuable agricultural resource in many ways.
