    John O'Groats, Scotland: An elderly man, Tom (Spall), whose wife has just passed away uses only local buses on a nostalgic trip to carry her ashes all the way across the UK to Land's End, where they originally met, using his free bus pass. Unbeknownst to Tom, his journey begins to capture the imagination of the local people that he comes across and, ultimately, becomes a nationwide story.

    This is film making, no Need for explosions, fast cars, guns, clubs just human emotion is enough for me. So touching

      Hes amazing .
      Just hope he doesnt mind us taking advantage of his saggy skin , which makes him look older.
      The main thing is hes healthy and well, with outstanding acting skills.

    This will be very emotional for me to watch. My Scottish mother died 2months before she was due to retire. My parents were avid caravan travellers all over UK & had made great plans(new car, new caravan) for traveling round the coasts and highlands of mostly Scotland after my dad was to retire the month after mom. My English Dad could not bear to scatter moms ashes & left it all down to my brother & I to scatter them both together after he had gone too. 11 years later, we had to make a decision on where to set their ashes free. We travelled to Lanarkshire, where mom & dad met, just outside of the army camp dad was posted to, behind which was Tinto hill, a really high hill that my dad had to run with a pack on his back, weekly for training. My brother and I climbed to the top, into the clouds(amazing experience, and very wet 😁)& looking down we could see parts of the camp still there and the village where mom had worked in a newsagents. We set their ashes free to bring their lives together, full circle. This memory is so much more heartheld than their funerals ❤

      I love all the movies y'all make about WW2. Others make films about battles but the Brits teach us about life during war; the rationing, the lack of petrol, the fashions, the unexploded bombs over a baby's crib, the loss of homes and resources, the Nazi occupation of the channel islands and the relationships between the young women and the young soldiers, etc.
      It's a world we would rarely get to know about were it not for the films of the UK. So thanks folks. You've done yourselves proud.
      Love from America.🙋

    Only we make films like this, there's something quintessentially British about them, a certain nostalgia that we all understand, no matter where we originated .......

    • @bostonblackie9503
      @bostonblackie9503 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In Europe the generations intermingle so stories such as this can be told and films such as this can be made. In North America the generations never mix, have little in common and they seldom produce films aimed at different age groups. Everything is basically for teenagers to those in their forties. Same in television.

    NOT horrible despite being panned by the critics. This film very emotional journey and a modern snapshot of Great Britain.
    ID card from what I saw was 1928 birth year, joined the war in 1943 as a stretcher bearer at 15 years old. He has seen a lot of change from postwar to his final days. ............ Hope to see more films like this.

    There was a man in Wales who travelled all over Wales on his free bus pass. I wouldn't want to try this as I would probably get frustrated with the infrequency and slowness of buses and then get on the train the rest of the way. I once travelled from Cardiff to Chepstow on two buses one Sunday morning for a festival and ended up getting the train home. It was raining heavily when I got there as well.

    It is not possible to travel from JOG to LE on a bus pass.
    Scottish bus passes are only valid in Scotland and English bus passes are only valid in England.
    I've just added that fact to Wiki.
