The missing step is a trip with the frame to the auto parts store on wyse road that will mix you a can of colour matched paint. A dab here and there on the worst bits will do wonders.
Dude. You're an inspiration to us all... By which I mean I show your videos to my wife to justify why me buying my 9th bike isn't as ridiculous as it could be.
That really looks a lot like the Early Cannondale Killer V frames. The larger frames had REALLY big front openings at the down tubes, differing from the smaller frames.
In my experience, because of the limited area that makes up a bike - no huge flat expanses of paint - you can skip the clay bar and do everything by hand and get the same results. For stingy scuff marks I use a magic eraser before the polishing compound begins
It's amazing what you achieved without re spraying. Depending on the build budget, sand blast, powder coating, and replicated decals might have been easier. Those welds tip the balance toward what you did. IMHO.
Those nearly horizontal dropout just scream Offroad Fixie/Single Speed Build at me. I'm gonna put this treatment on my 70 fast touring bike tracklocross build.
The welds ain't pretty for sure, but .......... they didn't break 👍. Just goes to show, once a year maybe we should all give our bikes some TLC like this? 👍👍👍👍
Simoniz is a leading USA manufacturer of car care products since 1910. At one time you would simoniz your car when you planned on waxing it. Glad to see you aren’t “rolling” the clay bar. I have used clay to remove overspray on my car after a crappy repair.
Does this process work for multi-colored/paint fade frames? The rubbing compound on your bike had a bunch of red on the applicator pad. Would this then get deposited/smeared onto the other colors? I got a yellow/orange/red/black fade on my frame. and wouldn't want to change the colors. Thanks!
Bloggers gotta blog, I know. But as you acknowledge yourself early on in the video, this frame really needs a thorough strip and respray. On the basis of the rear chainstay alone, I'd say anything less amounts to polishing handrails.
Woulda been funny to see a behind the scenes of the beginning intro in the dark with the lights, I think those are funny when they just cut to a guy In complete silence just waving a flashlight around lmao. I imagine you probably needed a second hand for that though lol if not props 🤟
I'd go to a paint shop and have them color match it, then spraying over the parts that are exposed. The chain stays are going to rust over in a short amount of time.
I also think it’s amazing that you can grow a beard in a matter of days and it takes me months. And then you just shave it off like it’s no big deal. Hahaha!!
For a custom bike that has horrible welds. Hell for a department store bike that has horrible welds. I sure hope these weren't expensive. Lol. Still a cool bike.
Awesome awesome awesomeness. Thanks for the breakdown. I’ve got a few bikes I’ve been wanting to do this on too...
What my two favorite TH-cam channels interacting!
Nice mixte. Is that a girls bike? :) /sarcasm
I'm impressed the decals survived the polishes.
Asked for a description of all the steps you did on your Rockhopper...got a new video to watch as well!!! Thanks Eric!
OH PLEASE PLEASE BUILD IT UP as a drop bar. It looks so unique.
I think the voodoo and also Christina's trek need this

Great idea!

Hahaha this could be a video on its own
Any other Canadian bike channels. I need more that I can relate to
What perfect timing! I was just embarking on cleaning and restoring a vintage 1980s Peugeot road bike. Thanks for the info and tutorial!
i was going to hit the like button just from the thumbnail alone.
Sorry to see that this bike was later destroyed 😢 😔
I've always pronounced it like "Simon-eyes" and we can buy it in the southeast US as well.
Same in the Southwest
That opening intro scene of the bike was very Spielberg-like.

The same Guru MTB is available in my area it says Model 7 on the slanting tube. May pick it up for my girlfriend!
Oh Spinney, polish me like one of your 90's French Canadian custom bicycle frames
Yay. Very exited for the vids to come on this
Very cool, I’m about to do my 97 Hardrock but I think I’m going to shoot more clear after it’s clean. Thanks for the inspiration!

Wow the welds really make me appreciate all my lugged bikes 😂
Custom framebag for the front triangle?
I'm just here to see what the outro says
Take some paint and tuch up spots with out paint so they are less noticeable
Nice walk thru!
It's going to be an interesting build I am guessing!
Those nearly horizontal dropout just scream Offroad Fixie/Single Speed Build at me. I'm gonna put this treatment on my 70 fast touring bike tracklocross build.
I have a purple cannonade with the frame like that
First thing I thought when I saw this was it looks like a cannondale lol
What would you recommend for dealing with little chips and scratches that go to bare metal?
Humbrol enamel
Clear nail polish
It makes you wonder how many frame testers died to get to version 3.7 like was there a version 3.658156547.
Lol with welds like that; maybe!

Simoniz products are also available in the UK
Been curious about bike stands lately... yours looks familiar. Are the two legs and the clamps ok? Awesome job on the frame!
The first 20sec = SMASH LIKE
Do you still have this? Crazy looking frame
No I cut it up
This bike would make a cool dad bike. Easy to step over that top tube with a child carrier on the back.
One in a row
Did you use a variable or single speed sander?
variable
I'd remove the stickers and clear spray it to keep the worn look but stop the rust at the same time.
This makes me wish my bike wasn't a mat finish so I could polish it.
Is that Canadian Ferrari Red?
Can you do this process on gnarbon frames??!!
Anything with clear coat friend
Subscribe or you'll only detail retro frames from this point forward? Don't threaten me with a good time sir.

this!
if i actually enjoy riding it, maybe i'd consider it but it'd be a waste if i hate it. Especially with the welds.
@@Spindatt Those welds are a jaw-dropper.

That would be cool if some one did this tutorial talking like Chrisfix .
HAY GAIIIIIS
cool

Please built up that frame🙏🏽

For a second, I thought it was a surly. Isn’t that GURU in a SURLY font?
looks similar to retro Kona styling too
Thats a cool frame, i love the patina and graphics but jeeeeez those welds are sh@t!
I guess the sloping top tube would be great if you're wearing a sundress while shredding the gnar gnar.
Put a clear coat on it, keeps the history of it's use
I'm tempted to unsubscribe just to see you detail more vintage frames 😍
I unsubscribed just so we could have a whole chain made of quick links 😂😂
Awesome video! Neat and unusual frame design. But cool. Glad your not repainting it.
If you were a day earlier we could have smoked a turkey together.
Ends up destroyed and cutt up 😢 lol
the fork on that bike looks to be bent
U brakes ?.
:O

Still a cool bike.
