    A nice video Mike as always. I like the relaxed style and I have recommended your channel to other rookies like me. I think I will build myself a dipole today 😊

    Dipoles are a great entry point for starting into antenna construction, plus the fact they are great performers. Simple, and inexpensive. Great demo Mike 73 de GØUSL

    It's always good to be reminded of the simple stuff! Even so, I'd have liked to have seen a 1:1 balun incorporated, to match the coax to the elements of the dipole. Chris, M0JZD

    In this day and age of end feds...and winding or buying ununs and baluns etc The trusty dipole is a great antenna for beginners. So approachable and easy to build. Nice video. 73 de VK2AOE....Hope the Covid was kind to you!

    a trick I learned to get the SWR down to 1:0 is you first adjust the antenna for SWR by trimming one leg only. Remember, the nominal impedance for a dipole is 73 ohms, so by trimming one side that will shift the impedance to 50 ohms. Once you get the lowest SWR reading by trimming just one side, then trim both sides equally to get the correct frequency, 14.2 MHz on this video. This will help you to get a perfectly matched dipole w a 1:0 SWR

    What stops the radio from seeing the coax part of the antenna also?

    • @mike-M0MSN
      @mike-M0MSN  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The fact that it is balanced, RF likes to take the ease route, if it was unbalanced some of the RF would make its way back down the outer part of the coax.

      @@mike-M0MSN oh ok. Gotcha. So a dipole is balanced as its equal on both sides. Is a scanner discone balanced or? Thanks

    Beautiful! Love that you used the simplest approach possible, anyone can do it. Do you have any advice on simple toroid chokes? For example in a future video maybe you could follow up this antenna design with a demo on how to improve it by doing a few turns of coax on a toroid and how the difference can be seen on a waterfall or SWR meter. All the best! 2E0LUP

    Hi Mike hope you are well, what type of mast is it you are using to support the dipole?
    I would like to be as stealthy as possible on the very small garden I have.

    Hi Mike. Excellent video as usual but prompted a thought. How about a video (or series) taking us through setting up a shack? I sm sure it would be very popular!

    Interesting video. I want to know if i can make a dipole 1/4 wave lenth for CB 11m band? The reason is that i live in an apartment, and space is limited. I have buildimg around me and can not moumt a fixed antenna. Do you maybe have an idea on how i can go foward??

    Missing some finer points ,WHY you multiplied the lengths by, 0.96 , I know why but newcomers need to know, the fact that each length is a 1/4 wave , giving a half wave at the centre. This allows you to feed with a 50 ohm coax, BUT.
    It’s important to include a COMMON mode balun to transfer the BALANCED to the UNBALANCED of the coax , this is BAD practice .
    It will radiate from the coax shield , give TVI.
    It’s all good but you really need to add the balun or a coax choke for common mode currents, your next door’s , Will thank you for it and your rig will live a bit longer.
    Not to mention you will have a better noise floor on the rig waterfall.

      @mike-M0MSN  ปีที่แล้ว

      Many thanks for your post, you are quite right the use of a balun and CMC would have been beneficial.
