Hey Folks, I think I solved the problem of the quiet instrument 2 port on the UMC22. There is a setting in Windows that let's you both turn up the sample rate to higher quality AND set it up for two channels. Cheers mates.
Note that the 2nd port is an instrument port I.E. Hi-Z. It's meant for guitars and such, not for line level input. If you want line-input you'll have to go to the next model up, the UMC202HD. That's the reason the 2nd is quieter. A software tweak may remedy it somewhat but it's different hardware so it will never sound right so long as you are using it for the wrong thing.
Well? What'st he setting? I'm trying to get this thing to work with the basic vocals-acoustic guitar setup. So far I could only get the XLR input to work, nothing from the instrument though. Can you help?
Hey I am not able to use 2nd port for recording guitar plz help as green light is blinking is there any special settings for that. Because when I start recorded it didn't record anything no signal on screen. But in mic port it's working good
@@korolchessclub I don't have it but to acquire both channels from a PC you need to be careful to select "channels 2, 16 bit, 48000Hz" in the sound card settings accessible via control panel-> sound-> recording-> properties-> advanced.
I have been using the UMC22 for a while with no issues to mention. I am a beginner so I am not pushing the unit. It has actually been fun. Thanks for the reviews.
Hey that's good to know. What kind of computer are you using it on? And what OS? Just curious since I've read about a few people having the same issues I did in this video.
Pls sir, how did u connect ur studio monitor speakers with it..... I really don't know how to, become at the back I only saw a jack port there, how can I go about it pls? Thank u sir
I have this model for recording chanting. I use it with Elementary OS which is a Linux Ubuntu derivative. No drivers to install and it works right out of the box. I use with Ardour Daw. Seems to work well for the price and I won't know the difference. My big mistake was getting a condenser microphone instead of a sure Sm58. They don't work in tropical environments.
I like to mic my amps with the SM57 instead of using an instrument cable directly into an amp sim. I don't know why, but I'm a bigger fan of recording my Metal tracks like that.
I agree! There's nothing better than a good mic in front of a good amp. Unfortunately I'm no longer in a situation where I can crank up my amps, so I've been doing the direct recording thing for a couple of years now. It's not bad, but I miss feeling the room shake around me when I play!
alot of the problems with latency, crackling sounds and interference come from the improper setup of the usb.. usb drivers, usb controller, interfering usb peripherals/ devices.. windows settings etc etc... always good to try out different usb ports, unplugging all the other devices.. and trying to keep the usb controller you end up using to be free from other devices.. also not mentioning that some people do have issues with usb 3.0 vs usb 2.0 and vice versa... so just make sure you find the best usb port first and go from there... this is in all honesty not necessarily an issue regarding behringer..
I have a constant peeping sound on mine, in addition to the background noice and i have no clue what I'm doing. It kind of disappeares when i turn the gain to max. Installed the driver, but I dont know if i need to do anymore than that
@@noblepenguin3486 I can only say that it is not necessarily always an issue with the soundcard... f.e. I had my usb-connected printer sitting on top of my stereo. This caused some peeping sounds especially when moving the mouse.. As soon as I moved the printer to another location these issues were gone.. Also, at least for me, my UMC204HD did not like every usb port the same^^. Some USB-ports did cause a lot of issues, like when working in the DAW every other sound on the pc was turned off. (different quality settings for daw and pc sound)..
Im pretty sure that the problem is AISO for all. Ive used it before and it was flaky. When I used a different AISO things improved. If the Behringer requires you to use AISO for all, that's a deal breaker for me.
It has actual drivers, just hidden on the Behringer page: 64 bit - www.behringerdownload.de/_software/BEHRINGER_2902_X64_2.8.40.zip 32 bit - www.behringerdownload.de/_software/BEHRINGER_2902_WIN32_2.8.40.zip
The UMC22 has 1/4" balanced TRS outputs, so you would plug them straight into a pair of powered monitors, into either TRS or XLR inputs. The UM2 has RCA unbalanced outputs, so they'd need to be either plugged straight into a pair of powered monitors that have RCA inputs, or adapted via an RCA to TS cable.
I probably would go with the Behringer U-Phoria IMC202HD if the bitrate and frequency are a thing. It also has a Midas design pre-amp, which is quite a lot better for not that much more money really. 60 bucks or so for a great audio interface.
The UMC22 has the Midas preamp (which really is remarkable for the money), but yeah it tops out at 48kHz and 16-bit. Someday I'll grab one of the HD versions in the U-Phoria line and give it a workout. They look like a great value.
I bought one recently. I downloaded the drivers and it doesn't record or playback. I use Windows 11 and Studio One. Apparently there are issues with the Behringer drivers.
got one yesterday. I installed the ASIO4ALL drivers, windows 10. I'm trying to connect my guitar to record with Cakewalk and I get no signal in the DAW. The UMC22 unit has the power light on, I get a signal light when I play, and if I turn on the volume the clipping light goes on... so there seems to be a signal in the unit, but I can't get it to hear it (I've tried with headphones directly in the unit and trying to monitor the signal in the daw, no luck). This morning I rebooted the computer again, opened cakewalk and tried again, this time I'm getting a MIDI error that I didn't get before and the ASIO device says "not connected". Any clues on what's going on?
About the only "secret weapon" I have on acoustic is that I use Dunlop Tortex Sharp picks. Something about that pointy end of the pick gives a little snap off of the string and helps offset the duller sound of the dead strings that I almost always have on my acoustic guitar :D
Ive been playing guitar for around two years now and I've become fairly confident enough that I want to record, watching this video helped but I'm just afraid of not being informed enough on the software needed. If anybody has any recommendations, they would be greatly appreciated!
That's great to hear! In this video th-cam.com/video/jSdsTpgHih0/w-d-xo.html, I put together a simple project using just Reaper, Waves GTR3, and EZDrummer. Hopefully that helps to at least get you started! Reaper is free to try for 60 days, I believe, and it stays fully functional after the trial expires. Since that video, I discovered MT Power Drumkit 2, which is a free drum kit that you can use instead of EZDrummer to get started: www.powerdrumkit.com/
I got a new mic and it came with a XLR to 6.35 quarter inch cable and I am having the same issue. I can't hear myself at all, in reaper there is a tiny signal and when I record i have crank my volume to almost 100% and the quality is extremely bad. I will try a XLR to XLR cable.
When you connect guitar to the audio interface, from where does your sound gets delivered? Have you connected your studio monitor speakers to the interface (on the rear of UMC 22)? Or you used an auxiliary cable (1/4" pins) to insert them in the front panel headphones port and connect it to an amplifier? My concern is when i practise my guitar before recording, from where should I ideally get to hear my work/preview? Thanks. Pune City, India
Hi! I have a question, please. What volume should I set on the microphone line on Windows? Should I set it to 100% and reduce the interface gain, or should I let the mic on Windows at 50% and increase the interface gain?
I use this interface with the AT2020 for recording gameplay and chatting with friends over teamspeak. Setting Windows mic volume to 100% dramatically increased my noise floor; friends immediately complained of white noise in the background. Setting my volume to 50% and increasing the interface gain completely resolved the issue. I think 80% and under is probably adequate for most uses, but 50% is what I personally use and I have had no issues. No idea about instruments; I would assume they behave similarly.
@@BillyAltDel Hi, William! Ty for your response. English is not my first language, I'll try to be as concise as I can. When I asked that question, 3 days ago, I had just got my hands on the interface. First thing I did was install ASIO4ALL and you are absolutely right! Even the reason for me to ask this question was EXACTLY this: very high noise floor. So much that, by default, the volume level was set initially by the driver itself at something like 60%. But something was not feeling right, so I researched a little more and tried the "obscure-hidden-no long supported Behinger driver". I uninstalled ASIO4ALL, installed the Behinger's one ("BEHRINGER_2902_X64_2.8.40", 64bit, I'm using Win10) and it is a lot more tamed. I let it at 100%, it doesn't explode anything anymore and my experience has been a blast since then. You should give it a try, it may be better for you. So, right now, I use for background noise ReaFir, for compression ReaComp and, as a VST host I use "Light Host" (plus VoiceMeeter Banana to get everything together). All free stuff. This way I can use the same setup in Discord, Obs, Skype and whatever I need, even if it doesn't accept VST plugins. Plus, I only have to manage one single setup. Thank you, again, for the time you spent answering me.
@@maicomstoppa I was just using the default Win10 drivers (it just worked when I plugged it in) so I will definitely check out those Behringer drivers, thank you!
Can I connect a dynamic mic to the second inst input??? I know it is a instrument input but i just wanted to know can I connect an xlr to quarter inch cable to the second channel so I get two mics for recording?
Hi. This might be a stupid question but I’m really just now starting to do some home recording so I’m a complete rookie when it comes to it. Anyways, is the UMC22 going to be compatible with Mac’s Garageband App? Do I still need to download the ASIO driver to my Mac? I’m definitely going to buy this interface to get started. Thank you so much for these videos! They are super helpful! 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
As far as I understand, it should work fine with Garageband. On the Mac side of things, I'm not 100% sure but I'd be willing to bet that you'll need drivers in order to get it to work. Cheers!
@@rgblack316 Whoop whoop! Just like they say in the Behringer Video. I have been confused about all this driver stuff, forgetting that mac does the drivers and they are in the OS already! Viva Mac!
That's actually an insert cable (2 x 1/4" TS to 3.5mm) that I use to send the interface's output to an external recorder for the purposes of recording these videos. But you would use 2 1/4" TRS cables to connect to your monitors from those same output jacks.
You can use either. TRS jacks and TRS cables work together to reject noise that it picked up along the cable run. So if you have issues with buzzes, hums, or other noise that's picked up by the cables themselves, or if you're using long lengths of cable then I'd definitely go with the balanced TRS connections. For shorter cable runs, or if you don't have any issues with noise then the RCA connections and RCA cables will work fine. And no worries about language, I thought you were very clear! Cheers to you in Mexico!
Fuck it. I just ordered this little thing abt 1 hour ago under the impression it doesnt come with usb cable. I ordered one because of you! 😂 Dont worry man. It doesnt seem like im gonna regret it either.
Hope you enjoy it! Just curious: are you using it for recording music, or podcast/gamecast, or playback? Whatever your use case, I hope it provides years of noise-making fun.
just want to ask, have you tried connecting it with ipad's garageband with a cck3 cable (lightning to usb 3 camera adapter?) If not, if you can just help me find out will be a great help!!!! Really thanks a lot in advance!!!!
Hey I am not able to use 2nd port for recording guitar plz help as green light is blinking is there any special settings for that. Because when I start recorded it didn't record anything no signal on screen. But in mic port it's working good
I went mad trying to work with the drivers for this device as well as UM2. Even with my i7 2nd gen CPU, 32GB RAM, I couldn't get it to work with ASIO4ALL, FLSTUDIO ASIO or the old Behringer drivers. Had to return the product.
My previous recording computer was finicky when it came to devices. I had months of constant issues, and it all traced back to the graphics card I was using. It just had a fundamental incompatibility with my motherboard. Weird because they were both from Gigabyte. But it might be worth looking thru your other devices to see if any of those are the culprit. That's where my troubleshooting leans when multiple interfaces all have issues with the same computer.
I see in your ASIO driver window you have a box checked that reads "force 16 bit" but my Behringer UMC 404 (the four channel version of this unit, and with the behringer drivers mine records in 24 bit... don't know
Right, the U-Phoria units above the UMC22 do actually record in 24-bit, up to 192 kHz. But the UM2 and UMC22 are stuck with 16-bit converters that only go up to 48 kHz. The extra dynamic range of 24-bit is definitely nice to have!
My UMC22 is working great through Reaper and headphones but when I try to use it with Skype or zoom they is an error message saying either the microphone or the speakers are not recognised. Sometimes it's one or the other. Any help with this would be welcome! Thanks
I just got this 22 interface and I am looking forward to playing through it. Can I connect up a UMC22 with the 404 Behringer interface? How do I go about connecting this up? Does someone have the answer as I cannot find the right you tube video at the moment. I don't want to give the UMC22 away just yet. Thanks for the video
I have a question, So, I want to use this for twitch streaming and I use the OBS. But regardless of that, I want to hear the game (my computer audio) and my own voice in the headphones. Now if I connect my headphones and turn on the direct monitor button, will I be able to hear both from the headphones?
I'm not able to watch this video while reaper is open. When I switch from Chrome to reaper, the audio makes a ticking noise then youtube tells me that there is an "Audio render error." Please help
i know this is an old video but shane from the channel in the blues uses an sm57 copy with an xlr into the instrument input and it worked fine. there might be something wrong with the cable you used.
Thanks so much for the review. I'm wondering if you've ever gone through the instrument input issue where it's really low. I had to crank up the gain all the way to be able to listen to it.
I only used the instrument input on channel #1, but it seemed to have plenty of gain on tap. That's odd that yours had low gain. Was that on input 1 with the Hi-Z button turned on?
Hey there thanks for the vids. You’ve been the best. I would kill to get the acoustic guitar sample quality you first played with xlr m/f cord. I have the same 57 mic and male female xlr cable, but I get the sound you got on the second sample playing with incorrect jack. Weak. I must put the gain at 100% and I get Amazon lapel mic quality. I also plugged in and acoustic guitar and it’s weak as well. I don’t have another xlr cable to try, so I guess that could be it. Either way with both correct hookups weak, do I most likely have a faulty unit? Thanks for any replies!
I hope this comment reaches you but I'm experiencing a hum/noise when I turn the output vol higher. It's barely noticeable when I'm direct monitoring but it's quite apparent when I use a plug-in like Bias FX2 or TH3 or Guitar Rig. Any idea about this? Using a noise gate helps but I feel it somewhat dampens the quality. Thanks a lot.
Hi, I just bought this interface and I noticed a lot of hissing sound on it specifically on the mic input. The mic is completely fine when I tried using it on other interface that's why i concluded that the problem is in the Audio interface itself. Do you have any ideas on how to fix this? The audio hissing is so bad, that the recording cannot be saved by noise reduction. Please help me. Thanks.
Oh yikes, that doesn't sound right. How high do you have the gain turned up on the mic preamp? If it's not turned way up and you're still getting static/hiss, I'd suspect that the unit is defective and in need of either repair or replacement.
Your Home Recording Studio At about 60% gain I get a lot of hissing sound. I tried really hard to fix this by bandpassing it's freqs on Eq and noise reduction but it doesn't seem to help. Btw, I'm using this with a laptop, do you think that using laptop contributes to that hissing sound?
At 60% gain, it should be clean and clear. At least that was my experience. Is it connected to the laptop via USB? If so, then the laptop shouldn't affect the sound quality unless it's causing pops/clicks due to the ASIO settings.
Your Home Recording Studio 256 samples is the lowest i can go. My laptop doesn't have impressive specs. Thanks for clarifying this. This unit i got is surely defective. I might need to get a new one. Thank you so much.
I don't understand why you began having problems with the unit, you said something about building/changing your PC but I couldn't quite follow what you meant. What was the situation when you could knock it down to 64 samples with ASIO? What did you change that glitched it out? I am having the intermittent issues too, I just want to play guitar with my computer.
I think it was something that Windows 10 changed with an update, and ASIO4ALL has not yet been changed to fix the issue. What I ended up doing was using drivers that were made for the UCA series of interfaces, and those actually worked pretty well. They weren't perfect, but they did allow me to dial down my buffer size lower than ASIO4ALL would allow without going intermittent. These are the drivers, hosted by Recording Studio 9, if you want to give them a try: th-cam.com/users/redirect?v=g98J36XmDhQ&event=video_description&redir_token=mVbWfXIEITA5sJ4hYwRW8fQQ66h8MTUzMTY4MDI2MUAxNTMxNTkzODYx&q=http%3A%2F%2Frecordingstudio9.com%2Fabout%2Fdownload%2F
I use laptop with windows 10 With an Intel i7 2670QM 2.20Ghz and I can't get the UMC22 AISO to go Below 312 samples without that clipping bug. The minimum latency I get, according to reaper is 13ms (in and out). and I can't get reaper to recognize the instrument jack at all... The signal light on the interface turns on when I play guitar, but the DAW isn't helping. Suggestions?
I am undecided whether to buy this behringer or a scarlett Solo to be used for my electric guitar. I don't record, I only play live. Which one do you recommend?
If ASIO4ALL is working for you, I'd stick with it. But if you're having issues with ASIO4ALL, there are some lagacy drivers that some people have had luck with (including me!). They're under the first section here, hosted by RecordingStudio9: recordingstudio9.com/about/download/
The drivers are also on the Behringer site, but hidden. Here are the links: 64 bit - www.behringerdownload.de/_software/BEHRINGER_2902_X64_2.8.40.zip 32 bit - www.behringerdownload.de/_software/BEHRINGER_2902_WIN32_2.8.40.zip
I'm a little hesitant to endorse the BM-800, but I haven't actually used one myself so I can't say for sure. They're on my shortlist of microphones to buy and try out, just because they're so cheap and they're all over Amazon and other online retailers. I'd love to know for myself whether they're good bargains or total garbage!
I've used BM-800 before and it's totally garbage. If you still want to consider using it, just don't expect high audio quality. No matter what interface you're using, if your mic's a piece of shite your recording will still be a piece of shit. It's usability depends on how and where you're gonna use it. You might wanna consider buying a higher quality mic. There are lots of brands out there that's fairly cheap but has considerable quality. In my own opinion, I won't recommend BM-800 to anyone. Cuz you'll end up buying another mic out of disappointment cause it won't just do any good to your work.
Well, I would recommend Audio Technica AT2020. I know it's not on the price range of BM800, but if you want an entry level mic that serves the best quality, AT2020 would be the greatest option. There are options I would also recommend from behringer. The C-1 and C-3. They're cheaper but a bit inferior to the AT2020 in terms of frequency response (They're missing some low freqs) but if that's fine with you, you go give it a shot. I suggest you to do some research before buying one of these mics. As for the BM800, i would not compromise my recording for a $10 mic just to get an audio same as the quality of my smartphone records.
I can't get the latency on mine under 380ms. My PC is an I5 12400F 32gb of ram and a Z690 board. To say i'm suprised is an understatement. I'm very dissapointed.
Hello! Nice review. I also bought UMC22 and I have problem with MIC/LINE input combo channel. I'm using dj controller DDj- SB2 and I''m trying to record my dj mixes. In order to do so I'm connecting RCA to my SB2 and TRS cable to UMC22 but sound is distorted and unusable. What's odd when I pull out TRS a bit (it is not fully inside MIC/LINE input) sound becomes good. I also tried to record DDj- SB2 on UMC22's INST input and it was ok - clean sound, no problems at all. Am I doing something wrong or would it be hardware issue?
I have a Zoom G1on guitar effects processor. Is it safe to connect the output of that (which normally goes to an amp input) to the Instrument input on the UMC22? I'm thinking it would be fine, but don't want to blow it up if I get it.
That should be totally fine. If the Zoom outputs a line-level signal, you'll just have to turn down the input gain on the UMC22. If it outputs an instrument level signal (like you'd plug into a guitar amp) then just use the instrument input on the front of the UMC22. The Zoom shouldn't be capable of outputting a big enough signal to hurt anything.
Hey!!! I'm really interested in buying this interface or the cheaper one, but the latency issue bothers me, did you find any solution? What seems to be the issue?
I did end up finding some legacy drivers that allowed me to get lower latency from the UMC22. It apparently doesn't work for everybody, but I did a video about it here: th-cam.com/video/g98J36XmDhQ/w-d-xo.html
Thank goodness I use mac. I always have problems with anything MS! I am waiting for my unit to arrive! I am a little bit excited. I have a Boss 8 channel mixer to play with too.
I'm thinkng of buying one of these. If I have my guitar connected to this running on amplitube will I also be able to hear music from my PC / TH-cam. I use it for mainly practicing but connecting my guitar using a USB cable doesn't allow both music on pc and amplitube to be heard together. Please help.
I don't think so. Asio4all is driver that helps minmize latency by bypassing windows and such, so you can't play youtube in background, but you can download song and put it into daw and then play along
What I'm getting out of this is to just purchase a better interface that delivers much less latency. Question: IF you were a beginner guitar player & were just interested in recording vocals/guitar to monitor you progress, what set up would you recommend if money were not a factor? Furthermore, what program (DAW?) would you recommend? I have downloaded Audacity to use with the system that I eventually decide on but am open to other suggestions....Thanks.....................BTW, you have a new subscriber.... :)
Hey thanks! The thing that kills me about the UMC22 is that it's capable of achieving much better latency than I could get in this video. It seems that a recent Windows 10 update messed up ASIO4ALL somehow. As far as a setup, are you playing acoustic or electric guitar? Are you using a microphone to capture the guitar, or plugging it directly into the interface? Do you want your vocal and guitar on separate tracks, or both recorded to the same track? Those factors will help determine the ideal interface for your situation.
Acoustic guitar only & would like to record into one mic onto one track for both guitar/vocals using Audacity. I will be using a guitar that I made but also have a Martin that is Acoustic/Electric that could be plugged into an interface. I have watched a number of videos that seem to indicate that recording Acoustic guitar directly into a mic sounds better than plugging it into an interface, however, I don't know that for sure.......Any gear recommendations (i.e., mics, interfaces, headphones, etc....) would be much appreciated as I am looking to do this very soon.....Thanks again, Steve
For a single mic, technically you only need an interface with 1 input/preamp (like the UMC22, UM2, Scarlett Solo, etc.) but I'd recommend getting at least a 2x2 interface like the Scarlett 2i2, Roland Rubix 22, Steinberg UR22, PreSonus AudioBox iTwo, etc.). Or if you're feeling more spendy, the offerings from RME, Apollo, and Audient are really good, but are probably overkill. For a microphone, I'd suggest a large diaphragm condenser of some sort. There are too many brands and models to name, and the prices range from tens of dollars to thousands of dollars, so you'll have to set a budget and find an LDC that fits. Honestly, the cheapest I'd go would be the Behringer C-1 at $50. I haven't used a ton of different headphones, but I'm partial to Sennheiser's offerings in the $99-$199 range. Sony, AKG, Tascam all make great studio-style over-the-ear closed-back headphones that are great for tracking, and they come in all sorts of price ranges. So again, set a budget so you can limit your options and not die of overload while shopping :D
Thanks for all that good info! My max budget would be around $500 to $600. So, I can see that I am going to have to narrow down equipment choices to fit that budget. Wish me luck................. :)
If you're looking to record anything in stereo, then I don't think that the UMC22 would be a good choice. It's technically possible, but the impedance and signal level mismatch between channel 1 (mic/line) and channel 2 (instrument) would present some problems in getting a balanced stereo signal. I'd recommend getting an interface that has 2 inputs that are both capable of accepting line level signals for such a scenario.
hello, I have the same interface and I want to use the xlr input for my mic while gaming but I'm unable to use it in game and discord at the same time. Any solution? please help
This gets into a tricky and kind of unpredictable area of ASIO for Windows. It really depends upon the drivers and even then, it seems to be hit-or-miss on whether someone can get the ASIO drivers to accept multiple audio streams on a single computer. For instance, my RME interface has no issues playing back a TH-cam video while my DAW is up and running. But a lot of other interfaces that I've tried haven't been able to do that. I'll have to look into this subject more, so I can understand why this happens.
I'd love some help if you guys have any idea I have the Behringer UM2 and I want to watch video on TH-cam while playing guitar in Amplitube. My OS is windows 10. Thx !
Woah, you're right. I just checked Sweetwater and they're selling it for $60. Still, at that price, I can't think of anything else that has this good of a preamp. Although at $60, I'm a little less accepting of the lack of drivers. For the extra money, they could now afford to pay developers to write actual drivers for it :)
@@hashmark13 In that price range, you've got tons of options. Really, any of the offerings from the big names like Focusrite, Steinberg, Roland, Behringer, NI, etc would be a great place to start. They all offer 2x2 interfaces at or below $150 USD, and out of all of them that I've used so far, none of them have been a disappointment. They're all pretty solid!
@@YHRS I am buying in UK and it says it comes with all the software you need! It also says it is plug and play straight out of the box so perhaps no need for drivers anymore? 05/2020
I know this is kinda late but try after configuring the asio4all driver like lowering the latency restart reaper Because i think reaper is still trying to buffer the new config without it refreshing in its process unlike Focusrite Asio Drivers I used Asio4All on my focusrite like the vanilla one you're using and whenever i get that problem i just connect and reconnect the interface if the sounds got cut off for some odd reason and it works again like a charm
I use it with Ableton, I adjust my buffer size Every track in Ableton has a latency adjuster. So if my output latency is 3.3 seconds, I adjust my tack latency to -3.3 seconds and latency is gone.
That's more of latency compensation, rather than adjusting input/output latency through the ASIO buffer. But that's a great way to make sure that all of your tracks line up, and that the phase stays correct when you're using multi-mic setups!
Hi Yup my UMC22 was not working with Reaper as it too is holding my Behringer UMC22 USB Audio Codec hostage as the default device in Windows. I have no options to switch to the USB Audio Codec in Reaper as mentioned. How did you "change away from the USB audio Codec as the Default recording device in Windows" so I can have it freed up to choose in Reaper preferences? Thanks
I went to sound options (type "sound" in the start menu), went to the recording tab, then right-clicked on any device other than the USB Audio Codec and set it to the default device. Hope that works for you!
I plugged in a USB camera which has a microphone. That became the default mic. However in Reaper preferences I still only have 1 option of Targus 1 and 2 for inputs and outputs unfortunately no USB Audio Codec for Behringer. Hmm
make sure that you select ASIO in the "Audio System" box, and ASIO4ALL in the "ASIO Driver" box. If no inputs are showing up still, click on "ASIO Configuration" and make sure that those inputs are enabled there.
Do you have a chance to try a different XLR cable? That seems to usually be the most likely culprit. Otherwise it'll be a matter of trying the mic and interface on a friend's (or store's) setup to see if you can narrow down which piece of gear is at fault. And just to make sure, check if any or all of these are true: - you're going XLR out of the microphone and XLR into the UMC22 (not 1/4" or through any adapters) - the phantom power switch is on and the 48V LED is lit up - the red light on the C1 is lit up - you get green/yellow/red signal indicators on the UMC22 when you speak/sing/yell into the mic - there is some signal activity in your DAW when you arm the track for recording - there is some waveform shape in the recorded track in the DAW
The UMC22 should work fine with a dynamic mic and Audacity. Just remember that Audacity does not support ASIO, so you will have to use WDM drivers, and your latency will be much, much higher.
I'm a real neophyte in this and I have the UMC22 unit. It works good with my condenser boom studio mic through the triple pronged "Mic/Line 1" in my ACON Acoustica Standard v.6 program. So now I want to plug my Telecaster into the "Inst. 2" plug and it works but with a very wimpy signal. My Fender Deluxe 112 amp has a "Preamp Out" jack... Do I run a phone jack chord from there to "Inst 2" and the Telecaster into the Deluxe 112's "Input"...? I won't do it until I know from you because I'm afraid that I might blow something up...? ( I told you... I am a neophyte at this... ) Fill me in, okay...?
Can you amplify the recorded guitar signal in Acoustica without introducing any noise? Maybe try to normalize that guitar track, or see if there is a way to simply turn it up. If it's not noisy after doing that, then I'd just stick with that. But if it's either still too quiet or too noisy, then sure you can try to send the preamp out (NOT the speaker out) from the amp to the line input (Mic/Line 1, using the TRS jack) of the UMC22. Sending the preamp out from the amp to the instrument input of the UMC22 might work, but the difference in expected signal strength and impedance could cause issues like distortion. It'd be worth a try, but my expectations would be low.
Plug it in , download the drivers from the behringer site and then install, go to fl studio , click audio and look for your sound card under asio devices. Done
If I'm understanding correctly, you've got an instrument connected to a DI box, then the DI box plugged into the Mic/Line input on the UMC22? If so, then that would be fine. The DI box is converting from a Hi-Z signal to a Lo-Z signal, so it should be happy as far as impedance is concerned. The signal level might be a little touchy, depending upon whether you're plugging into the XLR (mic level) or the 1/4" TRS (line level).
It depends on how you're making the connection. Absolutely do NOT connect the speaker output of the amp to any input on the UMC22. That'd be a recipe to fry the interface. But if your amp has an emulated speaker line output (emphasis on the LINE output), you could connect that to the line input of the UMC22 and it'd work. And if you enable direct monitoring, you'd hear it in headphones.
Hello nice video and tips, but i want to know something please help me. Im planning to purchase a Behringer UMC 22 Audio interface and I want to connect it with my Ipad air 2 which is using USB 2 (for garageband), will this adapter connects my audio interface without any delays or problems? WIll really appreciate your advise. Thanks in advance!!! :)
This is a very good question! I don't have any direct experience using a USB interface with a mobile device, so I can't say for sure. The key term for an audio interface being compatible with a mobile device is "class compliance". But I don't know for sure if the UMC22 is actually class compliant. I will try to dig around and find out.
If your guitar is electro-acoustic and has a port for an audio jack, you should be able to connect it to a pedal, and the interface , into an audio software. If it's purely acoustic, then you'll have to rely on using a microphone.
the latency was so sucking this guy provided some driver i dont know works like a charm th-cam.com/video/tcUnHGQmYFU/w-d-xo.html! happy recording guys , thanks home recording studios for this follow up
i noticed when using mine there was a overbearing static noise that i could not fix. Did other people experience this problem as well if so what did you do to fix it if you did fix it.
Do you hear the static noise when you're using direct monitor, or only through the DAW? I haven't experienced any static noises personally, but I hope somebody out there has seen it and addressed it and can lend a hand.
Ha, nice timing! Of course it's probably not encouraging to see a defective unit in action right when you click the "accept order" button :D Fortunately, Sweetwater is sending me a new unit and I'll report back when I'm able to give it a try. So far, I'm at a 50% success rate with these. Hopefully that'll be up to a 66.6% success rate soon!
i found your vids while i'm considering buying this unit. and the thing is... you say it's defective. i had few of your issues with line6 toneport ux1, pod live XT... so propably it's on the computer side (hardware or drivers...). propably tommorow i'm gonna order this behringer unit to have Livex3 only for rehearsals/gigs.
I gave it a try and it did perform better than ASIO4ALL. Still not perfect (or even as good as it was before Windows 10 jacked everything up) but it did a pretty good job.
Your Home Recording Studio what’s your computer specs? I’m running pro tools 12 on a dell Inspiron with intel core i3 and 6gb ram. Haven’t had any problems yet. Although, I’m only just starting. However, I’m able to run at 128 samples with no glitches, which I find weird when I look at pro tools 12 system requirements.
Wow, that's good to know that an i3 can still run PT! I'm running an AMD Ryzen 7 1700 on an X370 board, with 32 GB of RAM and an M.2 NVMe as my system drive. It's been a killer system for video editing and audio production. My old system was an i7 4770 on a Z97 board, and it was stellar for audio but kinda slow for video editing. But unfortunately it bit the dust several months ago.
Is UMC Asio Driver is better than the asio4all?On Reaper when i record, there’s a large hiss. “Sounds” default device is 3 Behringer UMC 204 HD 192K ..When I select "UMC Asio" in reaper, then the inputs go to: Input: In 1 Input: In 2 ..Any ideas? Many thanks, Chris
From this video I gathered that it wasn't the best device and wasn't the best way to demonstrate the device. So why bother at all? Actually I have a UMC 202HD and it's pretty nice.
If you want to plug in an MPC studio, you would only get a mono signal from it by plugging it into the line input of the UMC22. You could try plugging into the instrument input as well, but the expected input voltage and the high impedance would make it hard to get a good balanced stereo signal. I'd recommend a different interface if this is something that you're looking to do. Something with 2 line inputs like the UMC204HD or something similar.
Anton have you resolved the issue? Im having the same problem.
Dell Inspiron 5000, Core i7, Windows 10.
I didn't know russell crowe had a home studio, nice
Had to use a powered hub to get rid of the noise on mine
It has actual drivers, just hidden on the Behringer page:
64 bit - www.behringerdownload.de/_software/BEHRINGER_2902_X64_2.8.40.zip
32 bit - www.behringerdownload.de/_software/BEHRINGER_2902_WIN32_2.8.40.zip
Hi firstly thanks for this great info. Pls the question is how can u connect um22 with your monitor speakers.... Pls I really need more explanation
The Behringer U-Phoria UMC204 does record in 24 bit, but it is a little more expensive
Thanks! Agreed, the "HD" versions of the U-Phoria line do indeed have 24-bit inputs, as well as the ability to record up to 192kHz sample rates.
If I put it on direct monitoring, can I hear the backing track as well? If so, how can I hear both of them at the same time?
there is a dedicated knob to mix them
got one yesterday.
I would sooner listen to how you developed your excellent pick style, it has a nice thin swish to it which makes your acoustic guitar sound great.
What if you don’t install the drivers and try to just plug and play ?
Thanks.

I actually did that exact thing in the video starting at 13:48. Technically it'll work, but the signal is so low that it might not be an ideal setup.
Cheers!
Your Home Recording Studio nope. Plug and play on MacOS.
@@rgblack316 Whoop whoop! Just like they say in the Behringer Video. I have been confused about all this driver stuff, forgetting that mac does the drivers and they are in the OS already! Viva Mac!
In the minute 12:49 the red and white cables are 2 Rca or 2 Trs? How do you connected that to the monitors?
That's actually an insert cable (2 x 1/4" TS to 3.5mm) that I use to send the interface's output to an external recorder for the purposes of recording these videos. But you would use 2 1/4" TRS cables to connect to your monitors from those same output jacks.
@@YHRS I can't use 2 Ts to 2 Rca in the monitors? Or its better to use 2 Trs to 2 Trs? I have a mackie's cr3 and have both plugs
@@YHRS I applogize for my english, I am Mexican :b
You can use either. TRS jacks and TRS cables work together to reject noise that it picked up along the cable run. So if you have issues with buzzes, hums, or other noise that's picked up by the cables themselves, or if you're using long lengths of cable then I'd definitely go with the balanced TRS connections. For shorter cable runs, or if you don't have any issues with noise then the RCA connections and RCA cables will work fine. And no worries about language, I thought you were very clear! Cheers to you in Mexico!
Let's be honest here.. how many beginners with their first home studio ca actually HEAR the difference between 16 or 24-bit? I would say NONE
Fuck it. I just ordered this little thing abt 1 hour ago under the impression it doesnt come with usb cable. I ordered one because of you! 😂
Dont worry man.
But in mic port it's working good
are the two INPUTS (mic / line1 and inst 2) recorded separately on the pc?
Yes indeed, you can record input 1 and input 2 onto two different tracks in your DAW.
Right now I get it
My UMC22 is working great through Reaper and headphones but when I try to use it with Skype or zoom they is an error message saying either the microphone or the speakers are not recognised.
I have a question,
So, I want to use this for twitch streaming and I use the OBS.
After listening to this. I made my own box and plugged into the line in back of computer and have no latency at all.
How did you make your own box?
Thanks a lot.
hello sir, why when i record my umc22 on my laptop using quick time player on video, the audio is unbalance? why is that sir? thanks!
Had the same problem so sent it back straight away.... did you ever sort your hiss issue ?
Thanks for the video.
Your Home Recording Studio ohhh okay. Thanks a ton for clearing that up, I'll give those drivers a try.
What would your setup look like for a live performance? I've never tried it, so I'm not exactly sure how it would be set up.
So, is there an actual Driver for the Interface? Or do i need to stick with asio4all?
If ASIO4ALL is working for you, I'd stick with it. But if you're having issues with ASIO4ALL, there are some lagacy drivers that some people have had luck with (including me!). They're under the first section here, hosted by RecordingStudio9: recordingstudio9.com/about/download/
The drivers are also on the Behringer site, but hidden. Here are the links:
64 bit - www.behringerdownload.de/_software/BEHRINGER_2902_X64_2.8.40.zip

is the bm-800 worth it to pair with this specific sound card?
Hello. My unit produce hissing noise in the 1/4 jack when I plug in my earphone
me too!! need help on this
@@domdom1026 I fixed it by purchase new 1/4 male to 3.5mm female. Now I can hear my own voice clearly
Hello have you tried this audio interface on edrums with superior drummer or some drum software?
I can't get the latency on mine under 380ms. My PC is an I5 12400F 32gb of ram and a Z690 board. To say i'm suprised is an understatement. I'm very dissapointed.
Thanks for all the info.
Same exactly problem here...I have a U-phoria UMC22 and a Xenyx QX1002USB...And both have the same problem....I think it's Behringer the prob.
Yeah, but what about a DI guitar and a microphone in together? It will record that, right?
Thanks! Love your channel, have learned a TON. Wishing the best to you and yours!
ASIO problem is only with Microsoft computers not Mac. Also the USB cord is on the side of the Styrofoam you have look better than you did.
Thank goodness I use mac. I always have problems with anything MS! I am waiting for my unit to arrive! I am a little bit excited. I have a Boss 8 channel mixer to play with too.
Did you ever get to the bottom of the latency issue? I'm getting around 20ms.
My Yamaha 100w Amp has a 600 ohms direct output separate line, is that too big for the UMC22 please?
can you record stereo using both jack inputs from a mixer
Thx !
hi can i connect the dynamic microphone to the mixer and connect its output to the instrument input of umc22
It is now 60 bucks... is the price increase worth it?
Woah, you're right. I just checked Sweetwater and they're selling it for $60. Still, at that price, I can't think of anything else that has this good of a preamp. Although at $60, I'm a little less accepting of the lack of drivers. For the extra money, they could now afford to pay developers to write actual drivers for it :)
So I am new to this home studio stuff..what would you recommend for about 100 to 150 bucks that would be good for a beginner? Thanx
I know this is kinda late but try after configuring the asio4all driver like lowering the latency restart reaper
Because i think reaper is still trying to buffer the new config without it refreshing in its process unlike Focusrite Asio Drivers
I used Asio4All on my focusrite like the vanilla one you're using and whenever i get that problem i just connect and reconnect the interface if the sounds got cut off for some odd reason and it works again like a charm
Good suggestion, thanks!
Thank you for the help!
hahahah I was just about to say it does come with a USB cable - I nearly threw it away as hidden in the foam - too late though I bought another 😂
Watched this video so many times before I buy one for my bm-800 lol
Hi Yup my UMC22 was not working with Reaper as it too is holding my Behringer UMC22 USB Audio Codec hostage as the default device in Windows. I have no options to switch to the USB Audio Codec in Reaper as mentioned. How did you "change away from the USB audio Codec as the Default recording device in Windows" so I can have it freed up to choose in Reaper preferences? Thanks
I went to sound options (type "sound" in the start menu), went to the recording tab, then right-clicked on any device other than the USB Audio Codec and set it to the default device. Hope that works for you!
Thanks I'll give that a try most appreciative. Also posted question on Home recording.com which can be ignored. Most appreciative...
If no inputs are showing up still, click on "ASIO Configuration" and make sure that those inputs are enabled there.
bathouseforum.org/20180520_223253.jpg Inputs and outputs stuck on Targus. No USB audio Codec option
so its got phantom power in it,bought the beringher c1 mic,it doesn't go on?I don't know the problem
Do you have a chance to try a different XLR cable? That seems to usually be the most likely culprit. Otherwise it'll be a matter of trying the mic and interface on a friend's (or store's) setup to see if you can narrow down which piece of gear is at fault.
And just to make sure, check if any or all of these are true:
- you're going XLR out of the microphone and XLR into the UMC22 (not 1/4" or through any adapters)
- the phantom power switch is on and the 48V LED is lit up
- the red light on the C1 is lit up
- you get green/yellow/red signal indicators on the UMC22 when you speak/sing/yell into the mic
- there is some signal activity in your DAW when you arm the track for recording
- there is some waveform shape in the recorded track in the DAW
Do you Behringer U-Instantly UMC22
The entrance of XLR It works on a dynamic microphone
Works on the registration program Audacity
The UMC22 should work fine with a dynamic mic and Audacity. Just remember that Audacity does not support ASIO, so you will have to use WDM drivers, and your latency will be much, much higher.
great review
It'd be worth a try, but my expectations would be low.
my umc22 doesn't work when I plug both instruments and microphone. I can't hear anything and any frequency
Ooh, that's something that I'll have to try!
just picked this up today wish me luck i dont get a bad one lol
Omg - found my usb cable
thanks for your great advice and guidance, still having difficulty with only mono headphones, how do I change that please? Using audacity
Just change the track from
Stereo to Mono
I found the one guy that uses Reaper!
Does this interface work with a MAC? and will it work with garageband? Thank you.....
Yes, i have one and works perfectly with garageband on catalina
Is it woring with Macbook Pro El Capitan?
I have Fl Studio and I'm not able to set it up with it. Please help me mate
Plug it in , download the drivers from the behringer site and then install, go to fl studio , click audio and look for your sound card under asio devices. Done
can i connect the instrument to mic input while my instrument is connected to DI Box?
Eugene yes
If I'm understanding correctly, you've got an instrument connected to a DI box, then the DI box plugged into the Mic/Line input on the UMC22? If so, then that would be fine. The DI box is converting from a Hi-Z signal to a Lo-Z signal, so it should be happy as far as impedance is concerned. The signal level might be a little touchy, depending upon whether you're plugging into the XLR (mic level) or the 1/4" TRS (line level).
yes, thanks for the info.
Hi, Will i get sound if i connect a guitar amp to the 1/4" jack for headphones?
Your Home Recording Studio i tried to dig around but i was unsuccesful hope you can help me thnks really....
Hi! Idk anything about interfaces so ill need help😅 Can i connect acoustic guitar and pedal to this interface? Thank you❤️
If your guitar is electro-acoustic and has a port for an audio jack, you should be able to connect it to a pedal, and the interface , into an audio software. If it's purely acoustic, then you'll have to rely on using a microphone.
the latency was so sucking this guy provided some driver i dont know works like a charm th-cam.com/video/tcUnHGQmYFU/w-d-xo.html! happy recording guys , thanks home recording studios for this follow up
I've got those drivers downloaded, but I've yet to actually try them. I'd better hurry since the giveaway is about to happen!
Did they work?
Maybe You're close to instruments so it's making buzz sound or else it's all the way the best interface for the low budget
What if you download the drivers straight from behringer.com ?
it is fine audio interface for great price.
Will any damage be caused by placing a speaker on top of the interface?
Yes
The top part of it is shallow, so it will just dent inwards, and on the bottom, is the motherboard so I wouldn't do that
Can you use amplitube effects with this
can you record a mic in the instrument slot
I tried it in this video, and it didn't work very well. The output was very, very weak.
i noticed when using mine there was a overbearing static noise that i could not fix. Did other people experience this problem as well if so what did you do to fix it if you did fix it.
Do you hear the static noise when you're using direct monitor, or only through the DAW?
I haven't experienced any static noises personally, but I hope somebody out there has seen it and addressed it and can lend a hand.
What do you think of the behringer 302 running with the bm-800 ?
I just bought a BM-800 to review, so I'll know once I try it out for myself.
this video came up just when i ordered my umc22
Ha, nice timing! Of course it's probably not encouraging to see a defective unit in action right when you click the "accept order" button :D Fortunately, Sweetwater is sending me a new unit and I'll report back when I'm able to give it a try. So far, I'm at a 50% success rate with these. Hopefully that'll be up to a 66.6% success rate soon!
i found your vids while i'm considering buying this unit. and the thing is... you say it's defective. i had few of your issues with line6 toneport ux1, pod live XT... so propably it's on the computer side (hardware or drivers...). propably tommorow i'm gonna order this behringer unit to have Livex3 only for rehearsals/gigs.
use the behringer asio driver instead of putting through asio4all. you get better results i've found
I gave it a try and it did perform better than ASIO4ALL.
“Sounds” default device is 3 Behringer UMC 204 HD 192K ..When I select "UMC Asio" in reaper, then the inputs go to:
Input: In 1
Input: In 2 ..Any ideas? Many thanks, Chris
From this video I gathered that it wasn't the best device and wasn't the best way to demonstrate the device. So why bother at all? Actually I have a UMC 202HD and it's pretty nice.
can you plug your mpc studio in the instrument slot?
If you want to plug in an MPC studio, you would only get a mono signal from it by plugging it into the line input of the UMC22. You could try plugging into the instrument input as well, but the expected input voltage and the high impedance would make it hard to get a good balanced stereo signal.
I'd recommend a different interface if this is something that you're looking to do. Something with 2 line inputs like the UMC204HD or something similar.
Your Home Recording Studio thank you very much, your vids and advice really helps...much appreciated
