I had this same concern, one thing I've noticed is for me as long as the first 2-3 inches of any wig is black, I can pull it off. It makes a huge difference, especially since I have dark eyebrows. I typically do headband wigs or v part wigs ONLY. that's my lane and I'm owning it LOL
Or I'll make the underlayer black or distribute black highlights throughout. A black crown is a must for me though for a seamless look, especially since I wear my head band wigs pushed about 2 inches off my hairline for a seamless blend

Curly hair is measure as is, not stretched out. So it wont fall on your shoulders/back at the same length as straight hair would. so a 14 would be pretty short like right at your neck.
