The Indigo Girls are an American folk rock duo from Atlanta, Georgia, United States, formed in 1985. The duo consists of Amy Ray and Emily Saliers. They started out playing gigs on the local folk circuit in coffeehouses and schools and self-produced their first album, titled Indigo Girls, in High School. They are known for their hits "Closer to Fine" and "Galileo", as well as their collaboration with Sarah McLachlan on the song "Dear God". Together, they have released 14 studio albums, won multiple Grammy Awards, and have been active since the 1980s.

I absolutely adore these two women - their vocals are as clear as a bell, which is a lot more I can say for many no talent female vocalists these days. And their lyrics ... poetry. Much loved National treasures. I find them very healing in our time of national crisis.
Indigo GIrls need to be invited to the White House to perform, and should be awarded the National Medal of Arts by POTUS. And soon. They are a part of American culture and need to be recognized as such. I hope the POTUS does not wait too long. They are just as much a part of American pop culture as artists such as Ray Charles, Johnny Cash, Alison Krauss … Linda Ronstadt …

These two always look like they are enjoying every second together when they play live. I am in a "girl duo" myself when I am not writing and recording. We play for audiences in shelters for abused women and children, nursing homes and assisted living centers. Playing for these people is the highest of highs. I've sung nationally and internationally since I was seventeen, and I've never experienced more genuine love than I have from these "special" audiences.
