    Video Description
In this video we explain three major types of coral reefs: Fringe Reefs, Barrier Reefs, and Atolls.
Fringe Reefs form close to the coastline and are the first stage of reef development. They lack a deep lagoon and have corals concentrated near the shore. As they mature, a small lagoon may form between the reef and the coastline.
Barrier Reefs form when multiple fringe reefs merge, creating a continuous reef that is separated from the coastline by a deep lagoon. These reefs are longer and wider, with more corals on the ocean-facing side. The Great Barrier Reef of Australia is the largest example.
Atolls are ring-shaped reefs that form around a lagoon. They develop when a mountain or sea level subsides, leaving a coral ring. McCoy Atoll is an example of this structure.
The video concludes by showing an island with all three reef types coexisting. The speaker encourages viewers to ask questions in the comments.
