Love the videos, but I really wish the Diddy Kong was dancing the entire time. That would make them perfect.
Really loved this run, I think the only thing is it would have been nice to have Diddy Kong in the corner dancing the entire time.
I'm gonna be a little brutally honest, but I feel like this challenge (No Death Expert) separates the Mario pros. far more than any kind of Kaizo or marathon run. Anyone can memorize movement inputs, read set-ups, figure out difficult puzzles, and what have you if you have infinite lives. With this challenge, you have to check for kaizo blocks, sniper thwomps, potential softlocks, and whatever other curveball the level creator threw in to completely wreck the player. While there is an element of luck involved as some levels are just complete guess work or no-win situations until you've been through an area, there's far more skill and knowledge involved to know what every single level creator is capable of and having to work around those capabilities, even if it isn't there. Because it might be. You never know when that one ledge you think is safe has a thwomp ready to take you out, or a kaizo block ready to stunt your jump. If/when Ryu ever completes this challenge, it will cement him as one of the greatest Mario players of all time. The guy who went 17 completely random levels that can utilize any and all Mario mechanics and didn't die a single time. There is nothing you can do to practice, nothing you can do to prepare. It's all a matter of luck and skill.

Once you have completed several levels, you always start to play very carefully. And because of that, you end up losing every time. You should play each time as if it were the first level.

I would say there are an equal amount of deaths early in run because he tries to play too fast. In this deep run he beat several troll levels and dodged trolls because he went a bit slower. It's about 50/50 when you get down to it. Each level is a coin toss if you should slow down or yolo it.
At 01:20, Ryu plays insane optimization in avoiding Giant Bowser's hitbox to get the spiny shelmet in no time, then at 02:14 he goes "oh well, new record...".

Death is so much more painful in these runs. 1:15:40 made me physically wince

It would be cool to get some stats on this, like how many times Ryu clears a level on the first attempt and so how long it will likely be before he completes this challenge. And when he dies, what things kill him more. I would do it myself, but I can't do it any quicker than watching all the deathless again with a notepad...someone more youtube savvy maybe could write a script that looks for the x99 marios screen, making it a million times quicker to find the deaths...
I believe the star character in the level is something like lunas from Mario Galaxy. The star what's-her-name Rosealetta is paired with.
