He had the most unique style of soul singing imaginable with a vocal
gymnastic ability that no other singer could emulate.
Al Green is the only dude who could wear a plaid suit and turtleneck while looking badass.
Leftysfive93 You may think you're COOL, but you'll never be Al Green wearing plaid and a turtleneck COOL!
Just one of the best live performances ever.
Watch Livin’ for you live on Soul Train with his arm in a sling. Magical!
We all knew growing up watching Al Green that God had his hand on him! Praise God, Amen!
His delivery was so smooth... What a great way to captivate his audience. Talk about Charisma....
Love listening to this in 2021! Don't think they make em llike this no more...
This is just an incredible performance. Can you imagine Al Green lip-synching? Auto-tune for Al Green? Of course not. He's one of the greatest of all time.
Just saw him live tonight in 2023 at 77 years old and he still has it in him to sing just like he did back then.
When he was invited on Soul Train after a few hits and appearances, he refused unless he could appear with a live band . He hated when he lip synced earlier because he believed singing live separated the talent from the overhyped auto tune crowd. He was right !
This really is the chillest live performance I've seen
I'm a preacher and he still is my all time favorite singer. I've been listening to him through my mother and stepmother since I was 9 or 10 years old. I'm 57 now.
Oldie but goodie does not apply to Al....his stuff never gets old.
There's Only One Word to Describe AL GREEN...CHOSEN.And when You're Chosen There's nothing you can do about it but Do His Will.Spread the Word through Love Song as Guided by The Holy Spirit. My Favorite part of ALs' Live Performance is When The Holy Spirit take over He use every muscle in His Body to not Dance. My Favorite AL GREEN Song My Favorite Version..YOU'RE EVERYTHING TO ME..YOU'RE EVERYTHING...Love&Peace
He’s so handsome here 😍And his voice is so smooth and rich!
If Al Green would give this performance today it would bring the house down. Such heart and soul just sinks into your bones, the emotion and soul is crazy !
in this same suit.. bring the house................................down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
back when artists could actually sing LIVE.
Actually the vast majority of broadcasts in music they all lip sync and played along with their record and mimed their instruments. Only one or two shows featured a real performance.
We need soul music like this today
It just flat don't get ANY better than this anywhere...Respect
White, black, brown, yellow or red, ALL OF US, can appreciate art like this :)
Black music was so beautiful during this era. Then came rap and hip hop. Where did this quality of music go? Really miss it
I wouldn't say he is underated. He is internationally known as one of the great legends of Soul music. He still sells out concerts all around the world after more than 40 years in the industry, so even if the kids today aren't bumping all his classics on their ipods, his musical legacy is secure.
The fact that people generally consider John Lennon as clearly superior to Al Green musically is evidence that he is still underrated. Your point is well received though, we’re talking about a multi-Grammy award winner widely recognized as probably in the top 100 singers of all time
this shit so smooth i dropped my phone... damn al green just broke my screen
but it was worth it
He is a gift from God --- not just his enormous musical talent, but his personal style and obvious love for humanity.
Rev. Green's hits from the 70's still stop me in my tracks!!
i love watching his live performances. He's one of the few artist that alot of his live performances sound better than the actual recordings.
Yes, the true test of a singer. Recordings cannot do justice to the best singers.
all the classic artists sound better live in their prime than the studio versions. true talent. But i will say i like the Tired of Being Alone record better, but this is version refreshing. especially the "writing down things" where he self references Love and Happiness 👍
As A 70's baby I didn't appreciate when my mom had her get togethers blasting this music while I was trying to watch T.V in my room! But now im in my late 40's blasting this on my patio like these albums just came out!
This might be the best live musical performance on all of TH-cam
James Brown on Soul Train is up there for funk, for rock it Muse at Wembley by far, but for soul this is GENIUS on a whole other level.
How can people not like this!? SO damn good.
Kick ass rhythm section. Nope, he never gets old...my 16 month old grandson loves him!
No lipsync just Straight Up AL Baby!
Thank You my Mighty Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for my awesome brother in Christ the Rev. Al Green. 💖✝️🙏🏾
I agree. Wow! This is great! Thank you for sharing your gift of awesome music, you're one of the greatest ever, we love you Rev. Al Green! 💝
Happy 76th Birthday today April 13, 2022 to the great Al Green, born April 13, 1946.
Al Green is one of the most enduring soul singers of the rock era, and is considered by many the most important male singer since Sam Cooke. He has also been referred to as "The Last of the Great Soul Singers." His early 70s work on Hi Records sounds as good today as it did then, and his legend has continued to grow over the past quarter century even as he generally turned his back on popular music.
Green is the winner of 11 Grammy Awards, including the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. He has also received the BMI Icon award and is a Kennedy Center Honors recipient. He was included in the list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time, ranking at No. 65, as well as Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Greatest Singers, at No. 14 as per their December 14, 2023 list.
@@frederickballentine6558 Rolling Stone's list of the 100 best singers of all-time includes some of the greatest vocalists in the history of recording. These top singers of all time range from rock to blues to soul and even pop music, and this list is a round-up of some of the greatest singers ever to approach a microphone. Their list, as of December 14, 2023, listed Al Green as #14 (There are different lists, such as Billboard's and so on)
This is Memphis Soul Music…Derived from the Black Church Experience!!!!

When I feel sad over my quickly aging life, I play stuff like Al Green to remind me of my innocent youth. Then I feel better.
Al is pure soul!!!
No one can touch Mr Al Green when it comes to soul music...man is on fire and blessed with the holy spirit!! and I say that as an atheist..will and have always loved this man and his music!
This is the definition of COOL!!!

Al Green - what a voice..
Was such an experience to see this man in 1973, 13 yr. old white girl with her dad and I was absolutely spellbound! And had feelings I had never felt before.. amazing!
I'm glad & grateful that he's still with us & alive.
AL Green a Soul GOD,, one of the few artists i could listen to for hours and hour without music, HIS voice is that damn good.. Wow!
Al Green is SOUL personified. you have to give it to him. the man sure knows how to draw you in to his world ! ! 1
Al Green is a Minister of Music, Although he sung R&B he never lost his spiritual roots in his music as he sang about love. I love his music and will always listen to his songs in generations to come...
& Thus!!! Tha beginnings of R&B Soul music🔥🔥🔥👀✊🏽💕

Black folk, so talented, so blessed. We still got it! But our mistake was letting Mr. Charlie and them dictate to us! Now look what we have!
I will not get into today's secular music scene. They a hot flamin' electronic soul-less MESS. I jam Gospel. Al Green and some other soul groups from time to time.
Explains best Artist. Icon of all .

Watching and loving it end of 2023.
I remember when Al was new.......and the excitement that a singer in the Otis tradition had arrived......the critics were over the top in singing his praises....and what do you know.....they were right. Cause he's still here doing it. Go Al Green!!!!
This is the first song I heard from Al Green!! I have loved his music ever since. Simply Beautiful is one my favorites. I have an Album by Queen Latifah and they do that song together. It is Bad! I mean the good bad!!!
Sharp, smooth, and sexy as hell. Some people have a God given talent that raises the hair on the back of your neck and forms a lump in your throat.. this is it. God bless
What a man What a unique singer, expressions in his voice as well as his face. you don't get many to a pound nowadays. this guy is exceptional. Talk about getting into your heart this man is a music surgeon .

Absolutely love Al Green
Not one damn thing compares to this. I'm a white boy from the deep south and a conservative without a racist bone in my body. This man is unequaled in his soul, power, passion and delivery of a great song.
Al did and still has a strong voice, and how he can carry his voice is awsome., his love and happiness song shows his power as a singer
One of my favorite videos on TH-cam. The most bluesy & down home version of this classic. From the classic pbs show "SOUL", the jolly green giant channels his inner Bobby Bland at around 4:40. This lyrical letter to the great singer Laura Lee- serves as the begging man's anthem as much in 2018 as it was in 1971.
Just because it's an oldie. It's still a goldie.
OMG!! this man is a genuis
Omg!!! I can't believe I'm listening to this music today and it gives me the chills!!!!! I love Al Green!! Please come back good music!!
The people in the audience saw a performance for the ages. It's awesome just watching it here on TH-cam, but could you imagine what it must have been like to be sitting in that audience in 1973??? Amazing.
I cannot believe someone who knows good music can talk bad about reverend AL GREEN! He has taken me through good times and bad.
I remember watching this as a little girl thinking when I grew up I'd marry him and he could sing to me,,I still feel that way at 52,he was magic❤😘💚
This songs take me back !
Wow wow wow Al Once again you nailed it just beautiful x
I feel sorry for the people that disliked this song. Cause it don't get any better than this baby!!

Power Of Performance !
This live ! Version is hot❤❤❤❤
I love the way The Reverend leads up to the song with a song.
I can't believe 162 people had the gall to give this a thumbs down. Proof of profound unabashed stupidity.
Get em al
Al was fired up that night, All that God Blessed talent.👑🎙️🎶🎤🔊📯🎷🎸🎹🥁🎺🎻🎬📽️🙏
This incredible song is just impossible to sing... yet he does it, and the result is magic... How many singers could sing it like that ?
Felt this one to the bone!
I picked up the video of this entire show at the Ogden, Ut Public Library about two years back. What an amazing performance !
I really like Al's singing technique, if you watch you can see he pulls away from the mic when hitting those louder notes with more volume.
Old School Music, ONLY the pro's #KNOWS about mic techniques in studios & live performances. Al Green is a certified PRO! And, he's my "Dream Duet"!! I Love his music. ☆☆☆☆♡♡♡♡
I must listen to this Awesome man every day!
