    I find it interesting that the items that failed were different OEM parts (axle and tire packages) that the two companies sell WITH their trailers, but don't actually make themselves.
    Ultimately, yes, the companies are responsible for the selections of parts put on their trailers, but the trailers themselves seem to both be holding up well.

    Good information in part. He stated a couple times that he overloaded the axles. A few of your problems are a direct result from failure to do a pretrip inspection.

    • @HotShotHaven
      @HotShotHaven  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah that was definitely part of the problem in those days. I actually was doing pre-trips but there isn’t a set way to do it on a hotshot so I was missing some critical areas of concern. I learned over time how to do some very specific checks that really helped to prevent a lot of these problems… There was definitely a learning curve that only comes with experience…

    I am buying my first Gooseneck Trailer this week it is being built should be done by Friday. Its a Kaufman 20+5 and is a Tandem Dual Trailer 22.5k Rating. I sure hope its a good investment. Thanks for your Trailer review. GATORMADE tried to sell me a Trailer but it was a little more than I wanted to invest. Kaufmam seems to have good reviews and they are only 90 miles from me here in NC. $8000 out the door with Dexter 10k axels. Thanks for your knowledge and Trailer review. Very informative.

    I’d like to see the specs on both. There is 50 variables on each truck/trlr setup that could change the weights quite a bit. Also a few things I noted. Yes there lite weight trailers as far as capacity but there is also an option for elec over hydraulic brakes on both. Wouldn’t have magnets exploding. Also there is the option for disk brakes which are far superior and u don’t have drums explode then. Spring ride axles are not exactly ideal for a company that’s gonna rack up miles hard every week. Just my thoughts on some things. You spend more $ the first time avoids a lot of this type of stuff. Moral of the story don’t buy the cheaper versions and expect reliability of the better built upgraded everything trailer.

    • @HotShotHaven
      @HotShotHaven  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If they build it and sell it, i think it should be done correctly. True there are levels to trailers but poor quality control is a horse of another color. Thanks for the comment and safe travels out there bro

    Great video. My biggest fault with Gatormade is color. They don't offer any. Just black. I even had a sales rep offer to sell me a bare steel trailer that I would then have to take and have painted the color I wanted. THE PRICE DIDN'T CHANGE!!!!!!!! They wanted the full price and didn't have to paint it. I'm with you, if the buyer is handing out the money we want what we want.

    As a comparison my super cab long bed 2021 F350 6.7 FX4 with 75gal in a 90 gal tank and full truck fuel and 32' 2021 22K Elite dual tandem trailer with 10k axles scaled out at 15600.

    i know its a pain but, do a real DOT pre trip inspection on truck and trailer every day you run. with practice it takes 10 minutes and saves money, stress and lives also DOT inspections go much better.

    Great information on lack of quality workmanship on two very well known trailer name brands. It’s too bad here in America we’re putting out this type of workmanship. I always buy American when ever I can cause I’m getting ready to purchase a trailer built in Texas. Before purchasing I’m going to make sure it’s the correct axles and also taking my torque wrench with me and torque those nuts before leaving the yard.

    • @HotShotHaven
      @HotShotHaven  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree they make a good product. Ours just lacked quality control. The things that happen to ours could’ve happen to any manufacturer or dealer that doesn’t do a proper PDI (post delivery inspection). Ours is 7,750 lbs at 30+5 which was a real eye opening thing and a big let down. For what we carry in a non cdl atmosphere can be done by ANY manufacturer. Tbh I think the engineered beat is purely marketing for a 14-16k trailer. We’ve had PJ, Gator, DC, and Lamar in the fleet. The DC would be considered Jordan but non cdl, some adidas honestly would get the same job done...

    In this interest of fairness, I work for gator. If you are going to hot shot a 4 tire trailer in my experience the only way to go is 8k electric over hydraulic DISC brake axles that last so much long with less trouble and less cost to work on!

    • @HotShotHaven

      Either one should at least last 3,000 miles just the same. I had adjusters exploding and become lodged in the shoe WEEK ONE. That’s a true statement about the discs tho, I must agree..

    I bought a 14k dump trailer....tires were rated at 12.k, so the tires couldn't match the trailer's weight capacity. Apparently the DMV allows trailer manufacturer's to equip trailers with tires matching ONLY to ~90% weight capacity....which is something I've never heard of. I upgraded my dump trailer tires to semi truck front steer tires, they are same size but have twice the side wall strength and required for ANY offroad driving, gravel roads, street curbs, pot holes, etc.

      All systems have failure points. I totally agree that EOH performs vastly better but you have more components to attend to and actually more failure points, ie pump, lines, wheel cylinders, and ect….Each system is only as good as it’s individual components and maintenance. Most all trailers are initially assembled with the cheapest of everything, which is really a shame…

    F the up grade on tires if they are getting foreign made “ el cheapo “ tires, probably better to just delete at the dealership and bite the bullet and buy some quality tires from the start of the game
    I can’t buy or get service for a Gator made west of the Mississippi so Diamond C is the only choice here in Texas

    Great video! Excellent information and kept it real too. I was looking at a gatormade gooseneck dump trailer, and a big tex brand and a load trail brand because they are close to where I live. I have a gooseneck big tex 40 with hydraulic dovetail. It has been a great trailer over all. The load trail guys have a 232 warranty which covers the towing truck too. I might go with those guys from here on out.

      I considered Load Trail until I saw a used 2019 model on the lot. In one year it had turned into a rust bucket. The powder coat had started flaking off in areas, you could clearly see where welds weren’t properly cleaned and prepped before powder coat and were rusting badly.

    If you want to hear it like it is, this is the video for you. ha ha ha ha, very nice dude, your both smart and hilarious!!
    I would like to add that ive had a gatormade 16ft gooseneck dump, 8k greased hubs, for a year now. I have not used it a lot but your observations are pretty much spot on - gator is fabricated and built solid, they have pretty much zero customer service, the tires are low quality, and the axles although Dexter is supposed to be a good brand are kinda hit and miss. To this day when i start up or almost come to a stop, or use the brakes, it has this annoying hop where i can tell something is rubbing and gives a very distinct pulsing/jerking. Its very disappointing but Ive just lived with it, but after seeing some of your pics Im sure its a brake shoe or drum problem.

    With regards to the pot hole issue you had with your trailer, you might have had better luck going after the city for that reimbursement. Here in Indianapolis, if you have to come out of your pocket because of a pot hole, you can submit a claim with the city. I'm certainly not saying they all get paid, but you'd have at least had better customer service with them.
    Also, your fender tips dig had me cracking up!! You went all-the-way back! Keep up the great content!

    • @HotShotHaven
      @HotShotHaven  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great setup but it’s not applicable to non CDL due to weight. Disk brakes are available on 8k axles tho but besides that, the 12x4 brakes are about the largest on an 8k.. I wouldn’t go as far to say a person would go broke because the price of 3, 2x12 changes is about the same as the one pad change you’ll need for the 12k’s. I think it’s more about time wasted. I like loadmax trailers they seem pretty strong. I have a friend that runs them👍🏽

      @STEVEN-hv7ds 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HotShotHaven I forgot your not CDL . What's holding you back? I'm sure there's more loads up to 12k lbs you can still pull with a single wheel instead of being limited to 8 or 9k loads.
      Think about this what's gonna pay more hauling $1000 in building supplies or an $80000 skidsteer that takes up 10ft of deck. Drive up and go quick load
      You'll start seeing 3 and $4 per mile loads even as a partial . I do mainly oilfield pipe and equipment and it pays well because it's big dollar stuff. 1 valve set can be $100k in value but it pays big$$$.

      Buy the drop deck and let it pay for your next car hauler. Freight is a little more versatile for starting off and you can still run a couple cars in a pinch. Cars do pretty well also with volume but are even harder to get a load for in the first 3 months due to the cargo value..If you do cars you will really see your money running 5 or more✊🏾💸🚛💨💨💨

    Would never buy a new trailer, work like you are doing or personal RV without the disc brake upgrade. But I actually think anyone selling a trailer hauling any real weight, should only put disc brakes on the trailer. I pull my 5th wheel camper with one of my work semi tractors and that truck has plenty of braking, but really wish my older 5er had disc brakes, not drum brakes. Might have missed it, but did your o/o reach out to DC about the tire issue and if so did they take care of him like Gator took care of your tire issue?
