When I go to north carolina with my family we alaways stop by this shop called andy owings. they have a wall covered in PRS and LTD/ESP. I fell in love with a PRS. An orange flamed maple top and orange body. double-cut seni hollow. two humbuckers, one 3-way switch and 2 dials; one volume one tone. It plays, sounds, looks and feels great. after almost 3 years im sure it hasn't been sold. one day it will be mine. or at least ill have a sinilar one.
When buying a guitar I always follow the same 3 steps in the same order: 1-) Feel it. Apart from action or fret leveling and things like that, the feel of the neck and body is the only thing you can't modify. Check the weight, see if you're comfortable with it, with the neck, the scale lenght, if you like how the lacquer or lack of it feels in your hands. Once you find a model you like, go on. 2-)The sound. I mainly play electrics, so this part is somewhat less important than in an acoustic since the electronics can always be swapped, but play it, play different styles, see if it fits what you need. Even if you can drop new pickups in an electric, let's be honest, it's better if the ones from the factory already appeal to you and do what you want from them 3-)The looks. This might sound superficial, but I truly think it affects a lot on how much you play an instrument. Once it fits your requirements in the first two steps, see the finishes, try them, go for the one that you like how it looks by itself but that you also like how it looks on you when you play it. Go for the one that you think you'll see on a stand at home and make you think "Man I want to play". No matter if you play for fun or for yourself or if you're a professional going on stage. Pick a guitar that, after you're sure is the sound and feel you want, makes you want to play it just by seeing it.
Many people might think the 3rd step you mentioned is not important, or superficial, as you said. But I find as important as the others and I think that you should only pick a model that you can see yourself playing for as long as it lasts. Otherwise you might get discouraged with it and waste it. Very helpful list by the way, thank you for sharing
#3 was very well-explained! A guitar that inspires you to play and practice everyday is the best guitar you could have! I used to have a dirt-cheap "Rocker" strat that looked like trash ("Puke-Green burst" lmao) and I wouldn't even want to play a note on that guitar and I remember the day I got my hands on my Les Paul and when I would't want to let it go from hours and hours of playing. Until today, it always inspires me to play and hold it everyday.
Alfredo Gonzalez that's a great way to put it, it makes sense and #3 is what I look at even wen I can't buy a guitar, I go to the music store to get strings and I always look at a guitar that makes me wanna play, great advice, thank you
Enjoying looking at your guitar is very important. It is just as #3 is stated: if you like it you will want to play it. And isn’t that the main reason we play, for the joy? Great series and reasons, sir. Thanks for your insights. Steve
I'm left handed if you are left handed though you should start out right-handed all my left handed friends play right handed. I didn't start playing right handed so now I can only play left handed guitars and good luck finding a left handed guitar in a guitar store.
I always play a potential new guitar for quite a while without “plugging it in” . I focus on the “feel” , the neck, the weight , the overall playability. This way I’m not distracted by all the bells and whistles. Only after passing that test do I move on to plugging it into an amp. I will say that when you find a guitar that “speaks to you” , one that makes you literally play better and want to play for hours on end….. buy that guitar immediately. Sell the house, sell the kids … whatever. Ohhhhh and never play a PRS unless you can somehow come up with the funds to purchase it . It will only break your heart. 😢
Yesterday I got myself a sunburst Tele and a fender hot rod deluxe. I was playing with a practice amp and a squire strat before that, it's such an amazing difference in quality.
I'm in rural Japan. I haven't found a store that is not a general music store. In other words, not stores where the workers really know guitars, even if they are good players. Generally (I have found) that the guitars in these stores are not set up properly, either, along with having old strings. Because shopping at these stores do not offer the professional help I need, I have bought 2 new PRSs from Amazon Japan (buying without trying has always been against my code...I broke my code). Both of them were made in Korea supposedly under PRS strict standards...rosewood is prohibited in Japan. I've needed to send both of them back. The intonation is okay at the 12th fret for the 1st through 5th strings, but on the 6th string (the saddle screw is maxed) the intonation is about 5 to 7 cents off. That being said, the real problem is that on all six strings, frets 1 - 4 are way sharp. This was true on both guitars. I've had a good guitar mechanic do his best to set it up, including lowering the nut which didn't solve the problem. I see you, and many others on youTube, play PRSs seemingly without this problem. Other PRSs in stores (noting they are not well setup--unusual for PRSs, I'm told) seem to have the same problem. I wonder if you can comment on this?
For me the most important thing is the look. If you buy a guitar you don't think looks good , even though it's the best guitar technically speaking.. it's worthless
That definitely is one of my deciding factors in buying a guitar. If you buy a guitar that doesn’t look good, you’re not going to want to play on it or practice with it.
I'm kinda with ya. At first, especially in my teen years every time i saw it i just thought "this is a dad guitar, for sure." Then I played my first PRS about 9 years ago... not a "dad guitar" definitely a workhorse.

Music is Win, your videos are enjoyable, and this one is no exception. As far as new guitars, I've bought several, mainly Gibson's because the neck feels right, and Jimmy Page lol. I think as I've went, I've wanted more expensive stuff. I bought a nice SG for 1200 recently and compared it to my 400 dollar SG. I love my cheap SG but I can tell where my money went playing my new one. PRS guitars are amazing. I will have one. I saw the vid with your niece. Her Squier is great and I love the color, but if she digs the guitar a lot, she's most likely to hit your pockets a little harder next time lol
Started with a squier strat. Played that for the first two years then sold for a Mexican made tele, which I've had and loved for 15 years. Finally looking to add a guitar to the lineup and waited long enough I can afford a good one...but absolutely no idea what I want!! SG? Les Paul? ES-335? Strat? Jaguar? Jazzmaster? So many other great options too...
There comes a point when you're "jamming" with someone when you sync and you aren't trying to figure out or keep up but you're now resonating with the other player and creating. It's the most exhilarating feeling, the closest we will ever come to doing magic. You can see when it happens at the end of this video and it's really cool.
If you really want a PRS, but can't even afford a PRS SE, do what I did, buy a Harley Benton CST-24 lol. I'm so freakin happy with it, it's gorgeous and plays/feels/sounds awesome!
I just bought a FANO JM6 Shaped like a Jazzmaster. Came perfectly set up out of the box from Martin Music in Memphis. I bought a Fender Troy Van Leeuwen Jazzmaster($1350) and returned it after playing the Fano($2000). It plays better than the Fender. The other thing was I couldn’t justify paying $1350 for a Mexican fender even know it was pretty good but the American built Fano was a lot better. Another $100you could buy an American Jazzmaster. Was pretty good too but Fano Guitar won out this round.
I look for things I know I'm going to use I ask myself: what pickup conf am I looking for? Do I really need 3 humbuckers? Is the switch in a comfortable position? Is there a god damn gloss finish on this neck? Is it worth the money?

Floating trems are a requirement for me. Thinking about hacking up my LP to put in a recessed Floyd although it was a really expensive guitar so I’m kinda hesitant to do that
I want to get a Les Paul sometime, with a killswitch in it. Because Buckethead is my favorite guitarist. Who knows? Perhaps I could get my hands on a signature Buckethead Les Paul.
After playing a shitty Epiphone for my whole life I'm finally buying a new guitar today. This video came at the perfect time. With a 1500$ budget I don't think I'll be able to get a PRS like those 🤑
I follow a guide to buy a guitar. 1. Does it stay in tune. Will the guitar stay in tune after a bend or even you are finished tuning it? For example: Gibson Les Paul's have a hard time staying in tune. If it doesn't stay in tune. DON'T BUY IT 2. Does it sound good. A great sounding guitar will make you want to play that guitar more. If it sounds like garbage. Don't buy it. A bad sounding guitar will make you regret your purchase 3. Does it feel comfortable to play on. This is crucial, if the guitar feels like it is constantly stabbing you in the ribs or won't stay in your lap. Don't buy it. Get a guitar that has contour. Your playing will way more fun and comfortable. If you follow these steps, You will have that one guitar that will stay with you for the rest of your life and love it forever.
I don't have much opportunities to try guitars because I'm a lefty, so I grabbed that when I heard there was one in our local shop. But I feel it was in vain trying it because the guitar was everything but set up (strings were mile away from the fretboard), so as a beginner I found it very hard to make any opinion on it because of its state. :/ And yeah, the guitar has 4 nobs and it was just very confusing to me because my guitar has only the volume nob. :D "What players do you like?" Well, in that case I got the right guitar, although I meant to buy a different one in the beginning but didn't find any I like.
Could you make a video about upgrading guitar hardware. I'm thinking about duping up an old cheap strat and have no idea where to start. Also it could be a fun video idea
Rumors about tuning instability is the main reason I didn't buy Gibson SG yet. Right now I've got a choice to buy either Gibson SG 2010 or Ibanez J Custom 1998 with dimarzio petrucci crunch lab and liquifire pickups, both are second hand and cost around 850 dollars. Ibanez is pretty comfortable and sounds nice but I just don't need trem. Tough choice... please tell me what you would buy in this case.
infoowetrust well... While I collected money for it both guitars were sold, so I came to another conclusion: getting nice tube amp. Just ordered Laney Ironheart IR30-112, very excited to get it before new year if I'll be lucky.
I love my double cut Mccarty594..Please Make a video compair 594 singlecut and double cut with same type of woods, same amp, and same amp. Just about bending. David Gilmour master bending Man use tremolo:-)
Uhg I cant pick up a bunch of guitars cus all the stores are closed. I have a cheap Ibanez that I love but I've outgrown its neck feeling. It's too wide for me.
cowscowscows10 egnater tweaker 15 Head is a great amp at a great price. You’ll need a cabinet. Line6 makes a really affordable good cabinet 1x12 if u need one for around the $200 + range. The tweaker new is not a lot but used even cheaper you get 3 options Fender.Vox, Marshall. And the reason it’s called tweaker is because u can play clean or high gain. Lots of options.

Advice for those who play lefty: Take what you can get.
Served Justice I always wonder if leftys should start off with a right handed guitar and if that's actually gonna make their playing worse
Good names are for noobs im a lefty and its better to just play lefty
I'm left handed if you are left handed though you should start out right-handed all my left handed friends play right handed. I didn't start playing right handed so now I can only play left handed guitars and good luck finding a left handed guitar in a guitar store.
Noah Bonvissuto they have stores that are just left handed

Step 1: make sure it says either “Paul Reed Smith” or “Schecter” on the headstock
Step 2: buy it
Yes. Or les Paul
And Yamaha
I am trying to get a Shecter omen extreme 6 fr.
Schecter is my favorite brand
The finish on the back of that first neck looks so smooth. I have really sweaty hands sometimes so I hate when it's too glossy. That looks lovely.
It's get glossy after 10 hours. But then it's hand polished.
Yeah, the 594 has a natural finish on the neck... very unique and lovely to play
Just take a scotchbrite pad to the gloss on necks and it comes right off.
don't you still need a finish to seal wood grain? (is that even a word?)
FSUnole92 If you don’t like a glossy neck use 8,000 grit sandpaper and knock back the gloss till it’s where you like it.

I follow a guide to buy a guitar.
1. Does it stay in tune.
Will the guitar stay in tune after a bend or even you are finished tuning it?
For example: Gibson Les Paul's have a hard time staying in tune.
If it doesn't stay in tune. DON'T BUY IT
2. Does it sound good.
A great sounding guitar will make you want to play that guitar more. If it sounds like garbage. Don't buy it. A bad sounding guitar will make you regret your purchase

Сергей Лим Personally I would just play both guitars and buy the one that felt and sounded the best
Thanks for your reply! Just checked your vids - that's pretty nice playing and great looking Les Paul you got here! Cheers!
SG
infoowetrust well... While I collected money for it both guitars were sold, so I came to another conclusion: getting nice tube amp. Just ordered Laney Ironheart IR30-112, very excited to get it before new year if I'll be lucky.

Bold of you to assume that I can afford a new guitar
Get the one with stainless steel frets...will save u money in thd long run
I wish there was something like this for amps, cuz I'm trying to buy my first quality amp, and I don't know how to pick one
cowscowscows10 egnater tweaker 15 Head is a great amp at a great price. Lots of options.
and here are the PRS guys
Last time I was this early was my birth
Do you know any guitars that have a 20 inch fretboard radius??

I have a medium ranged (400 dollars) should I save for a 1000-1500 dollar guitar or get a new 700 dollar one now?
Aashay Kulkarni save for the one you really want.
I would love to have a PRS... I can't because the neck is too wide and my fingers are not long.
The Gamer Room yea the necks are too big. But I think the Tremonti signature model has a thinner neck.
anyone know any guitar players that play like how they played in the beginning?
It seems like tyler wants to bring that red HB home 😅
What if your left handed?
