I'm here on Ms. Price's 95th birthday. It's ironic that you posted this performance, a tribute to the great Arturo Toscannini, because I remember when it aired, and came looking for it!! I was at conservatory and I remember this was telecast in tandem with WQXR Radio, New York (I gleefully taped it!!), I'll never forget it (January 1980), for at that time, the only Price album I had was The Prima Donna Album version 5... and I was smitten. I learned a bit about the "Law of Attraction" that year because it wasn't 4 months after that I actually was in a performance with Ms. Price at Abyssinian Baptist Church with Zubin Mehta and the New York Philharmonic. Seeing, AND HEARING her up close and personal was a DREAM!
I've heard enough to say that the chart of lyrical sopranos is not led by Callas, but by someone else. Although it may have been more complicated on stage. The overall impression is there, acting, etc. So who leads the charts? Guess ... You will get it. It is an easy task.
