I like how there's additional information on your videos than you'd find elsewhere. It's not just the same old stuff repeated by a different person.
Aw this means a lot to me thank you!
Broad shoulder girlie hereeee❤
Me tooooooo!
Same and I like them actually
Think broad shoulders are beautiful too 🤩🥰- fall in love with them sis ❤❤❤
As another woman with broad shoulders, THANK YOU for this video. I, too, am still trying to get over my insecurities with my shoulders.
Ditto, thank you! 🎉
Jenn, you really do come up with novel concepts every time. I never thought about how much the neck would influence the perceived width of the shoulders.
Also, the wavy hair looks gorgeous on you.
Love this! I'm narrow shouldered, so I just flipped all of your advice 😄
same here 😁
Me too.
Such a good point that shoulder broadness is relative to neck length. My shoulders aren’t necessarily super wide compared to my hips, but I have a short neck and bigger chest so I still feel like I have broad shoulders. There’s a good reason I always reach for tops with open necklines. I also prefer seamlines that hit right where my shoulders end because my shoulders are sloped and I like the angle this gives them :)
Side note: one of my biggest pet peeves is when sizing charts don’t include shoulder width (which is the vast majority of them unfortunately). I find the shoulder fit super important so I’m very impressed when a brand actually bothers to list it.
Honestly, this even makes Kibbe's system make more sense. It also makes me realize why I love certain cuts on me and hate others. I mean, just knowing something "isn't for you" or "is totally your thing" is different than "really understanding why that's the case".
I have pretty narrow but super straight and square shoulders, a slender but rather short neck and a small head and face that do still look rather big in comparison to my shoulders and body. My shoulders don't look narrow in relation to the rest of my body but in relation to my head. And they are also narrow in measurement.
And you made me understand even better why I don't like long and voluminous hair on myself at all. (Long and whispy, rather whimsical looks nice on me, but hairstyles with width just drown me.) And there are actually many women who I think would look a bit "drowned" in a lot of hair.
I actually used to think I have visually wide shoulders but that was due to them being so straight and also due to my posture. When I wear ANYTHING you recommend for women with wide shoulders, I look at least funny but most likely choked by the garment. Thanks for adding more understanding and awareness to this "phenomenon".
I'd like to know why I feel like I can't wear knitwear. As soon as I add a sweater I look frumpy and round and shapeless. I think it's something to do with my chest size, because if I flatten my chest in the mirror the sweaters hang nicer. I feel like I need a fitted blazer or something more structured, but sometimes you just want a comfy wool or cashmere sweater like others get to wear.
For me thickness of the knit is what makes or breaks the look. I love thinner materials and ribbed knit is also great, but anything too thick, chunky, or with added details like cable knit patterns will blow up the size of my upper body out of proportion!
cropped &/ or unbuttoned have helped me + long necklace w/ or w/o pendant + eye-catching detail on blouse top center area; shoulder level
I LOVE the longer layered hair on Jenn! I have narrow shoulders and i detest them, they look horrendous in most things, i would kill for model/swimmer/strong shoulders, clothes look sooo much better and people respect you more.
Omg i just got to the sage bomber jacket!!! I’m in love!!
Your hair looks really good like this
Yassss.....lean into that brown!
That color is perfection on you. ❤
To me your shoulders don't look broad. And I love the slightly oversized/padded blazers on you. You look so cool and effortless.🤩
I'm jealous - I'm a SC and going a bit over (or nearer, shorter, longer to 😅) my lines makes me look untidy or sorta strange. So tailored everything and everywhere. 🤷♀
So excited for this!
👏🤘
I love the tips about shoulder pads! I bought a box of shoulder pads and I added them to a bunch of items because I love the way it looks! My shoulders are pretty standard I guess but I have a bad posture that I’ve been fixing for a while now with a personal trainer and I’m LOVING my new wider frame ❤ that cropped bomber jacket is sick, I have some pieces like that too, it’s a great style imo
Thanks. Broad shouldered people unite!
That bomber jacket kicks ass! Looks great
Would love to see one for arms!
love this hair on you!
This was such a helpful video. I’ve been buying all my shirts with a low neckline now (and just adding more clothes that actually part of my seasonal color palette). I agree. I have an extremely big chest with such a skinny body and it makes me look even more broad. I hate it and hopefully I’ll get a reduction soon. I hate spaghetti straps too. Unless I’m indoors relaxing, I will never wear them outside. Great tip for the hair also! I love having my hair down! Certain updos look great on me as an ingenue essence dominant but it also emphasis my broad shoulders! Thank you for the video!
Thanks for these tips. I hadn’t considered the connection between my short neck and broad shoulders before, and it totally lines up with some of the necklines that I like or dislike.
I also want to add, that I love your way of presenting all this information and how you talk to the camera. Your style aligns closely with mine, so it’s much easier to see how I can use these tips compared to some other videos I’ve seen, where the examples are probably not something I would ever wear.
This explains so much! I have a short face, broad shoulders, but I have naturally wavy/curly long hair to cover my shoulders. Would love tips for wearing sweaters with broad shoulders while looking refined. I noticed v neck sweaters are uncommon and if they exist, they usually are for casual wear. I have the hardest time layering in winter so any tips would be appreciated.
This is great! I have broad shoulders too
I feel seen. I feel understood. ☺️❤️
Broad shoulder gang! Thanks for these tips
I was working as a coat model, they were hiring us based on our broad shoulders because “we could handle the coat better”
So interesting g thank you! My shoulders are slightly wider than my hips. I’ve never liked spaghetti straps or tube tops on my but I love love love halter tops and tank tops. Im 5’ 9 and slim with small chest and long neck.. I’ve always thought my shoulders and collarbone were some of my best features. Also even though I’m in my mid 50s my arms and shoulders are very defined so this has
Been an area I like to play up
I have more rounded shoulders and never look quite right in blazers or unisex tshirts. I think broad shoulders can pull off all the cool and fun styles!
OMG in no universe could you possibly give Hagrid vibes 😂 That made me laugh so hard. Thank you for this video! 👏🏻
I mean, he's a kind mentor figure. In that way, yes. But not aesthetically! 🤭
Hey, I've been watching your channel for a while now. Your videos are so helpful! As someone who has been trying to improve their style, I've learned a lot from your videos. I've also recently started learning about the kibbe system, but the info I've found is pretty repetitive. I think I am a gamine, I'm not sure, but I would love to see a video on gamines (especially flamboyant and soft gamine). Also, it would be wonderful if you could give styling tips for gamines based on the latest trends. Thank you!!
Broad shoulders help balance my broad hips, but emphasise my long thin neck and face. A mid length bob is the only style that has ever looked OK, I'm not sure why.
Broad shouldered senior here. 👋🏻 Two additional ‘strikes’ against me: I’m a swimmer and my boobs have gotten much bigger as I’ve aged. So, everything you brought up makes so much sense to me. I like: 1.) Raglan sleeves, 2.) dropped shoulder sleeves, 3.) dark tops, 4.) Slightly oversized blazers, 5.) cuffed or elastic short sleeves. (My arms are still okay-looking.) 6.) Thicker straps on sleeveless tops. Great video!
You look gorgeous with this hair do and color of the shirt 💫
I don't think you have broad shoulders, and you look great in all of these blazers and jackets 👌🏻
Thank you so much! 🫶
Hi! Can i ask what you are wearing on your lips? The colour is beautiful!
Thank you! I’m wearing a mix of Nars Soft Matte Lip balm in Whiplash + Almay Lip Vibes in 180 Get Crazy!
Btw I just noticed you changed your channel name from StyleMeJenn(?). Still click cuz I remember your face tho 😂
Yes that’s right! 💕 I made an announcement about it but I was sure some people would have missed it so I’m trying to get into the habit of putting my face on the thumbnails always hehe 😆 I’m glad you recognized me and clicked!!
not sure if i have broad shoulder or just a small head 😅
I’m obsessed with your oversized blazer and have wide shoulders too. Where is it from???
It’s from Oak + Fort!
Looks great
I love dark brown on you ! Do you use it as your neutral color ? I also like you shirt "Club petanque" it's like our national sport in France, after going on strike of course.
Thank you! My go-to neutral is black but sometimes I like switching it up with the brown and I love how it softens everything compared to the black! I got the Club Pétanque sweatshirt years ago on Poshmark, but didn’t end up liking how the seam lines fall on my shoulders 😭 I still keep it around as comfort wear and it’s good quality!
That’s exactly what happened to me because of my big chest! I think my shoulders are probably fairly average because I never felt like I had broad shoulders until my cup size went up like crazy (for no reason and it doesn’t go down when I lose weight even though it gets bigger every time I gain weight, it’s hell)
long necklace w or w/o a pendant or a brooch where a polo pocket shd be, have helped me w same problem
@@audreyheart2180 I’m so glad that’s worked for you! I have long hair that I often wear down so it might not be my best option, imagine the tangles 😂😂😂
@@EmL-kg5gnif you like, you can put a little or a lot -- of your hair in the front -- left & right -- they will cut the width from shoulder to shoulder. & like she said, the neckline must never be too high; as this will cut the neck & increase the chest size 😊😊
@@audreyheart2180 True! Thank you 😊
I wonder how my algorithm knew I have broad shoulders…
The only issue is having broad shoulders and being plus size. I look sloppy on everything it makes me sad, and I have basically no boobs 😩 im losing weight, but it's depressing
Ladies want broad shoulders?!
All my life, I've always wanted narrower shoulders.
❤
As a trans woman, I appreciate your content so much!
🫶💕🙏
Broad shoulder girlies line up! … carefully.
Your shoulders, neck, and chest have the highest density of androgen receptors in the body. There is a correlation between the broadness of shoulders (neck and chest) and how much natural androgen receptors a person produces.
People on steroids grow extremely large shoulders and trap muscles with little exercise intensity in these areas because the drug increases their androgen receptors.
Androgen receptors make it easier for your body to build muscle 💪 which is good for collagen production (skin health and tendon ligament health), metabolic health and bone mass as we age.
You inherit your androgen receptors (and some of your athletic endurance in the mitochondria DNA) from your mother's X chromosomes.
Pretty interesting!
Then why does my mother have narrow shoulders whilst min are broad?
So very interesting! Thank you for the info. I'll probably look deeper into this as I've wanted to get into weight training because of my age and being a woman.
@@carolesmall-diop2333The key word is "some." You inherited "some" of your mother's DNA. It gets so much more complicated than you could imagine...
Oh wow, this is so fascinating! Thanks for sharing
Broad shoulders look so good one a woman!
Yes, they make her waist look tiny!
Yesss ❤!! So gorgeous 😊🤩🥰😍☺️❤
You are the first person I've heard talk about this! I have a short neck, square (but not exceptionally broad) shoulders, and so much is starting to make sense to me, and why cookie cutter "dress for your body type" advice never works for me. I love broad shoulders now! But still lean towards trying to lengthen my neck as much as possible.
the bit about shoulder seamlines makes so much sense!! how did i not figure that out sooner?! i love wearing t-shirts and sweaters but some of them just make my shoulders look so much broader (i'm kibbe FN and my shoulders are my biggest insecurity) and i never knew why, but i bet it's the dang seams!!!! that explains why i always feel confident in a drop-shoulder! i really appreciate tips like this because now when i go shopping, i'm actually going to know what to look for/avoid! instead of trying on a shirt in a store thinking "this makes my shoulders look broader... i think? is it the mirror? the lighting? maybe i'll buy it anyway and hope it looks better at home?" (and thus ending up with clothes i'll never wear), i could actually understand wHY i look the way i do in that shirt. like you said at the end of the video, you give tips that you don't really find anywhere else and i really appreciate this about your channel!
I’m glad you found the tips different and helpful! 💕
Is it possible that fabrics bunching up at the armpit is related to curve accommodation? I can’t figure out if I have Kibbe “width” aka broad shoulders as presented on your frame. I always have to size up t shirts and the sleeve seam always naturally fall at the edge of my shoulders as in your video. I thought that was because my shoulders are too narrow? I’m a bit confused now
I like my own broad shoulders and on woman in general. ❤
I’m a soft gamine and my broad shoulders are the more masculine part of me. But I have a soft feminine face and soft curves on a petite body. Ugh. I feel like a Frankenstein with different body types spliced together. I’d rather be a Natural where it’s more blended or a romantic where the shoulders are smaller and more feminine.
You probably look really soft yet strong. It’s a very sexy trait. Most people find it attractive!
cropped &/ or unbuttoned have helped me + long necklace w/ or w/o pendant + eye-catching detail on blouse top center area; shoulder level
Broad shoulders are so sexy! Every model I've seen with broad shouldess is drool worthy. I feel like I never see broad shouldered women irl because maybe they dress and style themselves in a way to make them smaller?
I've always loved my broad shoulders! They also make your waist look smaller, and your head too.
I love having broad shoulders! I never try to minimize my inverted triangle shape
I’m fascinated that you have grown up disliking your broad shoulders. I have very broad shoulders and have always felt they were an asset, not a problem. It helps that I’m tall and have a long neck as well.
I think for me a lot of it is cultural - gender roles and stereotypes were emphasized heavily in my environment. I’ve grown to love them regardless over time but have always felt very self-conscious about them when I was younger!
@@stylerefinement They are beautiful and powerful, as are you. Love your channel for interesting, odd discussions.
I appreciate that thoughtful response about cultural differences. I was a swimmer and also have distinct collar bones , like you. I distinctly remember my mother apologizing for my genetic collarbones and reference to my linebacker shoulders. It made me realize I’m not everyone’s cup of tea, and decided to lean into both anyway. I still admire them in women and have apologized for nothing while raising my boys. They have great shoulders too.
I grew up also disliking my shoulders. I think it was because they made me feel masculine and I just wanted to feel feminine (which I grew up thinking was small and dainty).
I understand you are an inverted triangle but to me your shoulders look perfectly in proportion to your body. You know your body best but we are also our worst critic. Anyways I love your content. I even bought your course on face proportions.
Yay! I hope you found the course helpful! 💞
kibbe flamboyant natural here! tousled long free hair is great for us. Most models have broad shoulders! As Kibbe body types. Rock those shoulders. Your width is your body strength!
It's interesting that a clavicle-placed seamline is recommended for both narrow and wide shoulders - for narrow shoulders it de-emphasizes the narrowness that contrasts with a shoulder-ended seamline, while for wide shoulders it narrows their appearance. Though of course the extremes work differently(drop shoulder works for width that looks absolutely shapeless on those of us with a tiny upper-body, while we do well with even narrower seams that smother your frame)
Loved this Jenn ❤ Thank you.
Glad you liked it! 🫶
Thank you, Jenn!
V Broad shoulders here (ex-swimmer).
HATED them forever,
They are super convenient , though, in practical life.
All your recommendations coincide with what I have found.
I struggle to get the hair long and retain bulk. The back of my head silhouette can
Get too flat at the back.
Ps. I thoroughly enjoy you styling yourself in soft natural.
LOVE this edgy textured hairstyle on you!! 🔥
Do you think hair length can influence your full body proportions? I have shorter legs and feel like overly long hair can emphasize that.
Same!!! I’ve always felt bulky and top heavy in push up bras. After breastfeeding my boobs are nonexistent and my sternum is prominent and I love it!!!!
Thank you! Great video. As I was watching I got my tape measure out. I was a swimmer, lifted weights, and ran distance. I have a large frame anyway, but the sports I was involved in built them up more. (Almost 7 inches difference in my shoulders and my hips.) I’ve made peace with it.
Feel like a unicorn. I have medium rather small shoulders with bigger breasts. I strive to visually shrink my boobs and lengthen my shoulders. Love that look.
loved this. make a video about dress options for broad shoulders pleasee
Last tip is 🔥
🙌
Hourglass girls are this too
I would never say, Your shoulders are broad.
Broad shoulders here and I love them! I run into trouble less with fashion and more with function as I can’t put on dresses or tops with sleeves but no zippers eg. I also have to scrunch inward if I’m sitting in a tight seat or walking through a narrow walkway. But when I can flare these puppies out you bet I do 😂
totally agree with you about oversized and the shoulder pad placement! I can hang blazers off my body like a coat hanger 💀
I love my broad shoulders. Looks athletic and being an hour glass means width of hips is same as shoulders so gives me a beautiful balance but accepting myself is what makes me truly beautiful ❤
Beautiful hair! I really need to figure out something with mine lol
My cousin and I were comparing our shoulders widths once. Im 18" across, she is 15". Those 3 inches make a big difference! Also, I'm 34DDD :( Too many layers or details, thick fabrics, high necklines all make me look 20lbs heavier. I am getting myself prepared for an honest closet purge this fall 😭😵☠️
The white t-shirt and the small chest part is so relatable omg! I've always dreamed of having bigger boobs when I hated how I looked with bras that made them look bigger and fuller. Something didn't look right and thx to you know I get why. "Top heavy" yes! I feel like a dang kangaroo squaring up lol
you look lovely in this wavy hairstyle!! I feel like I discovered these points from lots of trial and error, it was especially noticeable with different necklines. Turtlenecks are so elegant but I've just always thought they don't look right with my short neck and shoulder shape! It was helpful to see examples all in one place and you explained everything so well 💗
Love these waves on you! First thing I noticed when I opened the video. I was wondering if you went to the beach or something. Looks great!
The push up bra thing is so true! I also stopped wearing them altogether because they made me look strange.
Love my broad shoulders! I lift heavy so they are toned and make my waist appear smaller than it is!
also your hair looks great like this!
Thank you ❤
❤❤❤ 9:39
I hate having man shoulders. Hate it.
There’s literally no way you have man shoulders, unless you’re a dude.
Thank you for another great video Jenn! 😊
You are always so welcome Linda 💞
How to know if a person has broad pr narrow shoulders if it osnt immediately obvious?
When comparing to the face, about 3x the facial width is considered proportionate, but the challenge is that this method doesn't take into account how narrow the hips are in comparison!
Thanks!!@@stylerefinement
