  • Apologies in advance for the crappy video, I ran to grab my camera as an afterthought while Art was goofing around. Here Art Khu plays a 1941 Hammond Model E given to me by his lovely wife and musical partner, Jacqui Naylor. The Hammond has been recapped, retubed, tone generator adjusted and has had the percussion circuit from a Hammond M100 added. The tone cabinets are a Leslie 31H modified with two speed motors and a Hammond DR-20 and D-20 daisy chained together for the echo channel. All the tone cabinets have been recapped and retubed as well. www.artkhu.com, www.jacquinaylor.com, www.bottlehead.com

I've always wanted to fit a model E with M-3 Vibrato chorus, perc, attenuation control, & a pedal solo unit. The uploader is 1/4 there! Sounds great!

The cheekblock is cut out to fit the percussion switch panel. An M-3 chassis has been installed in the cabinet with just the tubes necessary to run the percussion circuit.

I should clarify that I used parts from an M-100 rather than an M-3.

Did the entire M-3 cheeckblock fit into the E cabinet, or did you have to carve out the E cheeckblock to fit the M-3 percussion switchbox?

Is it difficult to install the m percussion ? or could a novice do it ?

+infidel G You need to find schematics for both organs, be able to read them and figure out how to interconnect the circuits. You need to figure out where to mount the M preamp/amp chassis, which houses the percussion circuit. You need to cut the Model E cheekblock to fit the switch panel. I'll suggest that it's a job for an experienced organ tech, but where there's a will, there's a way...
