  • JAPAN vs SERBIA | Highlights | Women's VNL 2024. The fifth day of the women's tournament of the Japan round of the Volleyball Nations League, "Kaitori Daikichi Volleyball Nations League 2024 Fukuoka Tournament," was held on Saturday, June 15th at the West Japan General Exhibition Center (Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture).
    The Japanese women's national team, ranked 7th in the FIVB world rankings (before the start of the match), played their 11th match of the preliminary round against Serbia, ranked 9th, today, and won in straight sets 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-15), bringing their overall record in the tournament to 8 wins and 3 losses (25 points).
    In their first match after qualifying for the Paris 2024 Olympics, Japan faced Serbia.
    In the first set, Japan scored points with spikes from Ishikawa Mayu and Koga Sarina. Serbia tried to break down Japan with aggressive serves, but Japan fought back with blocks from Araki Sayaka and Hayashi Kotona and spikes from Yamada Nichika, making the match evenly matched. In the middle of the game, at 17-15, Serbia made a mistake and Japan took the lead at 18-15. In the end, thanks to the efforts of Koga and Ishikawa, Japan took the lead 25-22.
    In the second set, Koga got into the rhythm with a back attack, and Hayashi and Ishikawa also performed well, taking the lead 6-2. After that, Koga made an instant decision to set up a back attack for Hayashi from Ishikawa's super receive, and Hayashi then scored a service ace to take the lead. After that, Iwasaki Koyomi's block and Yamada's broad attack extended the lead to 14-6 and went into the second half of the set. At one point, Serbia closed the gap to 3 points, but Koga and Hayashi's efforts helped them maintain the lead, and relief server Tanaka Mizuki's serve led to a break and the score was 21-16. After another player change, Miyabe Airi was sent onto the court as a relief server, and she moved to the front line and scored points with a spike, winning the second set 25-18.
    In the third set, Miyabe, who was deployed from the start of the set, showed her skills in blocking. Setter Iwasaki Koyomi showed her tossing skills, taking advantage of the accurate serve reception from libero Kojima Manami to make the most of the spiker, and Koga responded with a succession of sharp spikes. The other libero, Fukudome Satomi, also produced points from stable spike reception, giving Japan a large lead of 10-5. Japan continued to widen its lead with the efforts of Ishikawa and Koga from the middle of the game onwards, and continued to play an advantageous role throughout the match. Towards the end, Wada Yukiko and Seki Nanami, who were replaced on the court, also played their roles, and Japan won this set 25-15, marking their eighth win of the preliminary round in straight sets.
