After graduating this past spring, I was able to pay down nearly half of my student loan over the summer! My goal is to pay it all off by next March and take advantage of the current freeze on student loan interest. I'm excited to be done with it, and then start moving that same amount of money towards my investments instead of debt payments.
Thank you for sharing your experience! This is so refreshing to hear a normal person talk about their debt journey in real time. Appreciate the Canadian context too as most of the other finance Channels are overwhelmingly American. It can be difficult watching other people around you being able to just start their careers without student debt. Thanks for showing that it’s actually possible :D
Way to go, dont let the amount get you down your ahead. A great achievement you got no place to go but up. As to the others who go from dept to millions most are fake you walked the best line
This question may be to some degree personal so feel totally free to ignore it: Now that your income has increased and you have no debt, have you considered increasing your spending? For example, moving to a bigger place maybe somewhere with a dedicated WFH room/den, or getting a car that can help you get around easier and be able to explore the country. At the first glance, these may seem like splurging which means it'll take you longer to be able to afford a house. But the thing is that thoughtful spending can increase life quality and that is important too. For example, having a better WFH space can increase your performance and even help you get a promotion sooner. In the end, how do you make the decision on where should the balance between saving and spending to have a higher quality of life be?
That would be called lifestyle creep, ha! It depends on the person of course, but in my case buying a car wouldn't improve my quality of life - nor would moving into a different space. We may move eventually, but there's no need to rush into spending more. I didn't aim to pay off my debt quickly so I could start buying more things - I wanted it paid off so I could start investing, saving and growing my business so myself and my family could have a strong future. Having fun and living life doesn't have to = spending money (some people who spend a lot and have a lot of things could be the most miserable and stressed, you don't know solely by the items they have). Thanks for watching. 😊
I know it feels so weird to see it now! Normally we only film 2-3 videos ahead, but we really wanted to put the new couch video content up so this one got pushed back a few weeks. 😊
Bruh we have the same story! Everything is pretty well the same for me! I just need a partner on the same page as me to achieve these goals more quickly!
Would you have done things differently if you had known interest rates would be this low now? If your student loan is at prime, and you can get about 6% returns on your investments in the long run, why not take the longest repayment plan possible? I get the appeal of that debt-free feeling but the low rates also look like a big opportunity to get ahead.
Sometimes I'm bad at celebrating, but a $75,000+ swing in three years is pretty exciting. What are you excited about re: your money lately? ⬇️
My emergency fund is 70% funded! Can't wait to fully fund it and move on to more investing. I also have the same emergency fund goal as you.

Expensive glasses
Not that expensive - but stylish! Mine were $150, but you can find a lot of great prices online!
