Migratory birds start coming to Bangladesh in winter.
These birds travel thousands of kilometers to migrate to our country.
They are mainly the birds of colder countries.
To avoid extreme cold and food shortages in the North Pole, European, Asian, and the Himalayan region, these birds come to Bangladesh for relatively less cold and food availability.
They are prevalent in several areas of the country including haor areas and the coast of some islands.
Also, these migratory birds can be seen in the waterbody of Jahangirnagar University, Dhaka.
The group of migratory birds is enhancing the beauty of our rivers, haor, lakes, chars, ponds, and waterbodies.
The nature of Bangladesh becomes sonorous with their presence.
The common migratory birds in Bangladesh are Godwit, Curlew, Sandpiper, Gull, Tern, Black-winged Stilt, Skimmer, and various species of ducks.
The migratory birds enhance the beauty of waterbodies and contribute significantly to biodiversity conservation.
They protect our crops by feeding on harmful insects and their feces help increase soil fertility.
But these valuable birds are being endangered day by day for various reasons.
Their lives are being threatened every day.
Due to our adverse actions on the environment, migratory birds are losing their roaming ground and habitats.
Migratory birds are dying by feeding on poisoned insects due to the overuse of pesticides and artificial fertilizers in cropland.
Besides, many birds are killed by the unawareness of humans, poison bait, and traps.
Therefore, necessary steps should be taken immediately in this regard.
Migratory birds come from afar to our country for shelter.
It is their fight for survival, so we should ensure their habitats.
Awareness of all of us can help save these eco-friendly birds.
