It might interest you to know that when I saw them perform it live back in the day, they had the most technically advanced light show in the world. It was a total immersion experience that I vividly recall still, some 48 years later. Thanks for the walk down memory lane. 👍
I really enjoyed watching you being exposed to this beautiful music. Make no mistake, this album, this music saved my life. If there was no music like this and the other music I listened to as a teenager back in the mid late seventies, I wouldn't have made it. The sheer Joy and excitement that you exhibited being exposed to this is every bit what I was feeling being exposed to it as a youngster. It was my only joy. Life outside of music was disaster. Thank you for loving and understanding this music. And sharing it with the world! D
Everything you felt, every expression, every reaction,I felt the 1st time I heard this in early 1974. A total masterpiece. It still takes me to the heights it did over 50 yrs ago. Perfectiin beginning to end. I get emotional still. I had moved to Las Vegas from New York a year earlier. Graduated high school in 1972. Living back in NY for decades, had lived in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mtns. before moving back East. Definitely a Top 10 album of all time in my humble opinion. Thankyou Jim & nice to meet you!😊
Always loved this LP , ( still have it ) they were not that well known , just remember that they were an English group - but very popular in Germany . Never could relate to any of their other albums , this one had something special ! Great album cover painting !
Wonderful reaction - thanks for sharing your first time hearing this. I bought this in 1974 as a teenager. Back then musical exploration was sometimes a blind buy at the record store, then rushing home, calling a friend up to invite over, light up, sink into a chair and go on a journey. I still listen to that same record lovingly cared for and still sounding crisp and clean. Keep up your journey of great music!
Jim that was fantastic. Two completely different feels from each side. The cross pollination between rock groups during this time period is undeniable and unmistakeable. I also heard bits and bobs of Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page and the band Bachman Turner Overdrive, who you may or may not be familiar with. Such a sublime album. I’m going to revisit their catalog, time well spent, I think. So thrilled that you loved this album from a band that should have gotten soooo much more recognition than they did. 🔥✌️💿
I think this is the most under rated and over looked album ever recorded. I saw the Nektar perform this album in its entirety many times as far back as 1976. The way I discovered this band 1975 was I had come across a magazine out of Eurooe that voted this album number 4 for the year of 1974. I picked it up and fell in love with music immediately and have been a fan of Nektar ever since. RTF is a masterpiece!!!
Any progressive rock music lover who hasn't heard this album has missed out on something really great. Still sounds very fresh and modern today. If you want to present another album of Nektar, I recommend "Recycled". A good live album is "Sunday Night at London Roundhouse".
I so thoroughly enjoyed this, they were so criminally underrated. Just a reminder to dig just a little deeper and find the gems. Absolutely outstanding!
Glad you enjoyed that Jim! Sadly Nektar got precious little recognition in the UK (we were spoilt for bands at that time!) As you mentioned, however they were hugely popular in Germany, lucky for us they were or they might have passed under our radar. I bought both Tab and Future on vinyl in 1979 I remember playing it in my student residence, after hearing a friends copy of the album a few times. There are some good bits in "Journey to the eye" and "Recycled", "Sounds like This" is a good album but quite different from Tab and Remember. What really surprised me was, I listened to "Book of Days" from 2008 aon You Tube recently and it's a really good album so that would be a recommendation from me,

I enjoyed that immensely, Jim. Like others, side 2 is more to my taste, but the entire album is smashing! I hope the teensy tiny bit towards the end is rectified by a deep clean, but it's a worthy listen regardless. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
This lp (US 1st Press Passport records) is in my cart on Discogs, thanks Jim to enlightening me to great prog once more. I do think this UA pressing has vocal sibilance and IGD.
Jim I have a live Nektar album called Thru the ears complication album so good, Billy Sherwood of Yes played bass in 2013 for the band for a short time.
Jim, is this the first time that you've heard (or heard of) NEKTAR? I saw them in 19'75 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. I sat in row 4 -- right in front of Mick Brockett (Liquid Lights). Roye was INCREDIBLE!
Hi Jim , this album was very popular in the NY area back in the 70s & they use to play many concerts here then .I saw this tour ,the "Down to earth" tour & the " Recycled " with Larry Fast ( Snyergy ) a well known synth player .You'll have to check out Recycled sometime it very good . Over the years I've grow to enjoy side 2 of this album more & more if you notice on the inside of the album cover is a concert shot of the band .They use to have a huge movie screen left to right / top to bottom showing movies & psychedelic light shows while they played this album start to finish plus their other album material . They did a reunion tour at a prog music festival in 2001 ( ? ) Which I went to also which was terrific i believe they put out a live album & video of the show . Check out Recycled next ✌️😎
A thing that strikes me about Nektar that all those other bands you mentioned don't have is a really strong nod to the USA : 70s funk, Zappa-esque arrangements and choral sounds, the kind of stuff you heard in 70s US TV shows... Sounds daft, but even a bit of the Sasame Street theme... There's no band like them. It's ALL gold.
Hello there and thanks so much for the sub! I have totally considered listening to Big Big Train and am very aware it’s missing from the channel. I will soon 👍🏼
i personally rate the sweater-collared shirt combo over the orange shirt, despite orange being my favourite colour, just can't overlook the class of a layered arrangement. speaking of layered arrangements ... waheyyyy
I am taken aback by how American this album sounds -- but it uses the British sounds of prog along with 70's rock rythms and guitar licks. When you say it sounds a bit like Pink Floyd and Yes, well actually Pink Floyd guitar sounded like this later than this. The Funk on side 2 is totally American sounding. The Prog is totally British. The Rock and experimental sounds are very German.
Hi Jim ! Thank you for letting me listening to nektar as I knew their name only. I would like to know where did you get the vinyl ? I love your content, don’t stop :)
You should check out Bebop Deluxe “modern music”. They have some pop influence along with lots of progressive direction throughout. As for the skip. Wet a tissue and let it lay on the spot for 10 minutes. That should soften the dirt. Wipe very gently and it should be restored. It sounds like a dirt skip and not a scratch skip.
Nektar 4eva! ❤️🔥👨🎤 Mmm yet again your vinyl version is slightly different mix wise to the one I have especially on this side (side 1 was same pretty much). I actually prefer this mix on side 2 to the one I have this time (having listened to this now some 30 times or so since I got into this great band....)
You mention the recording In my opinion 70s production was the best and using analogue equipment So much clarity Problem now a days is everything is recorded too loud , I can't listen to Mastodon because their loudness means there's no clarity in the instruments and it sounds bad when listening on headphones
I love this album with all of my heart and soul. Top 5 of all time for me. Love side 1, but side 2 just hits me differently.
Wonderful progressive melodic album that so many Americans missed. I've always said that this album deserves a creative treatment on film.
Just got this vinyl the other day by recommendation gotta say I'm not at all disappointed in the amazing sound of this music.
Just knew you'd enjoy this one Jim, pleased you finally got to it!!
I love Nektar!!! Shocker.
You don’t say!

When the song shifts gear at 10:10 it really turns spectacular. then even more special at 12:10. I've loved this album since 1974. Great reaction Jim!

These guys like YES and Pink Floyd are the reason we love Progressive Rock music. Thanks for the revisit Jim I had completely forgotten about Nektar!
I think this is the most under rated and over looked album ever recorded.

Nice blend of acid pop with blues under tones and of course the beach boys are always near by.
A perfect album, one of my all time favorites !
Really love this album. Nektar at their best, which is saying something.
I so thoroughly enjoyed this, they were so criminally underrated. Just a reminder to dig just a little deeper and find the gems. Absolutely outstanding!
that "horn" affect starting around 7:50 in this video still gives me chills.
The words are very important.
Glad you enjoyed that Jim! Sadly Nektar got precious little recognition in the UK (we were spoilt for bands at that time!) I really love the more mellow sections on this side. Particularly the part just beyond where you commented on how inventive this is.
Such a good record!

*(Boy)*
I can see you - I can hear you (x4)
I can see it all when I look into your eyes
I can sense it all when I look into your skies
I can see, oh I can feel
*You are Me and that’s the way It has to Be, You are Me...*
I can feel it all when I look behind your smile
I can hear it all when I look behind your mind
I can sense, oh I can feel
You are Me and that’s the way It's always been, *You are Me...*
Bluebird - what do you see ?
Bluebird - what do you feel ?
*(Bluebird)*
I feel everything, I see life, I see the stars
And I can’t care for anything
*(Boy)*
Bluebird - where have you been ?
Bluebird - what have you seen ?
*(Bluebird)*
I’ve been everywhere
I’ve seen all around
And I can’t warn against anything...
*(Boy)*
Smile if you want to - Not when you can
Break down if you want to - Not when you can
Follow me home ‘cos Tomorrow...
Tomorrow never comes
*(Bluebird)*
You stand before me - Fate in your hand
You say tomorrow will never begin
Follow me home - ‘cos Today is
Tomorrow, yesterday
Walking down lonely roads, what do I see ?
Won’t be long till they come again - free
Name that place, name mine too
Where will we be ?
Won’t be long - till they crucify me
Here they come (x3)
See them run
See them run (x3)
...watch them go now...
________________________________________
*(Boy)*
I can see you - through the morning mist
And the evening too
I can hear you - getting closer now to the living truth
You say that life has no end
Believe me you’ve go to pretend
Because I can see you - coming closer now to the living truth
Gotta let it grow, someday you’re gonna let it show
*(Bluebird)*
I can see you...
come close to me and I’ll tell you true
I can feel you - listen carefully to what I say to you
I tell you life has no end
There’s no need for you to pretend
‘Cos you *see You* - believe *Yourself* - that’s all you have to do
Gotta let it grow, someday you gotta let it show
You know that I can’t stop it (x3)
You know, you know that I
You know that I can’t stop it (x2)
You know, you know that I
You know that I can’t stop it
Let it grow - you don't need no sympathy
You don’t realize - how much you needed me
You will realize it’s better when you give
"Cos your life is longer than you live"
The laws of nature are to heal the wounds of man
Use them right and they will help you if they can
Wrongly used and you’ll only harm yourself
Then it’s too late to come to me for help
Don’t walk away - give it a chance
*Let it grow*
*Let it grow*
*Let it grow*
Thanks for sharing these lyrics 👍🏼
By the by... Have you listened to Star Castle? True to the Light. Fountains of Light. Lady of the Lake.
This side is even more to my liking. Glad I bought the album.
Thanks for the recommendation for this album.
The last song took longer than expected 😇😄
I enjoyed that immensely, Jim. Like others, side 2 is more to my taste, but the entire album is smashing!
I hope the teensy tiny bit towards the end is rectified by a deep clean, but it's a worthy listen regardless.

I hope you’ll keep doing some more! One of my favorite bands and they are nearly unheard of
I gotta run Jim. I need to go right over and listen to ATITO!
Hope you enjoyed it!

Great album, really rich in variety. Overall, I might have liked 'A Tap in the Ocean' a tiny bit more, but both these albums are awesome discoveries.
Brilliant, aren’t they?
Haven't heard much outside of the channel but Nektar seem to be worth exploring. There's also a new Haken song today!
Incoming my friend :)

Around 18:30 sounding like the missing link between Wishbone Ash and Grand Funk Railroad I daresay!

Big up!
I really haven't dug into this band much just a few songs here and there🤔
I prefer this to side 1
Whenever I buy used records on eBay, that’s my worst fear is to hear it start skipping. Other than that, awesome album.
Remember the bluebird could be an metaphor for God.
Nice reaction.. nektar extremely underrated prog band. Still waiting for blues for allah.. from the Grateful Dead 💀.
That rather unconventional remix on 19 minutes was perfect in its own way... 😂 👌

So much clarity

Bluebird reminds me of Jesus. The band trying to discover the meaning of life.
Have to try Gethsemane Ted Neely singing in Jesus Christ Superstar.
Scraaaaaaaaaaaaaatch🤯🤬🤣....perhaps this vinyl needs to be 'recycled' Jim....😉
Lol!
