One full meal with 2 small snacks which do not make up another meal. Abstain from flesh meat and poultry. No alcohol. Fast from t.v. and sleep. between 18 and 59 yrs old not counting sick and pregnant people. Must master our lower appetites. Must atone for sin. To be better able to pray, to be alert.
Nancy Hollo I stopped watching all TV two years ago and it has helped me tremendously by just listening to these sermons etc so I totally agree with you.
It's a great idea to fast on bread and water on Wednesdays and Fridays to do penance for our sins, conversion of sinners, intentions of the Immaculate Heart of Mary... give up TV altogether in my view and be very selective with any social media... pray the Holy Rosary daily and if possible, do the 15 mysteries of the traditional Rosary... may God bless this priest and all of you...🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
In the Byzantine church you keep the fasts even when you are old. No stopping at age 59. (People are living longer today, they really should bump that age 59 limit up higher.) Thank you Father. Prayers for you. I try to fast as much as I can.
Also fast according to your job/responsibilities, I work a very physical job and in my craziness went all day without food which simply made me too tired when I got home and couldn't attend to my family
fasting...well there is always bread and water... That's very good for paring it down to essentials. Christ is the Living Water. Christ is veiled by the bread at holy mass.
I remember a Catholic school babysitter reassuring my siblings and me that if meat were the only food available, then it was ok for us to eat it, and if there was food that would go to waste then it should be eaten, especially for poor people who might not have anything to eat the next day. She didn't mention age restrictions -- back then, every Catholic was expected to fast throughout Lent, and to go meatless. This was in the late 1960s-early 1970s. I didn't learn about the other exemptions until the 1980s. I don't exactly recall the circumstances of the babysitter telling us this, but we were in the kitchen, and I remember feeling distressed. Funny what memories come up....and the blank spots are mysterious. I'm guessing it might have been Ash Wednesday, or maybe Thursday. Then again, maybe it was just a regular Friday. And I'm guessing that Mom forgot and had taken hamburger out to thaw.
One issue I have with this video is that it isn't Christ-centered. Christ already died for our sins. Even if I were to fast 40 days and night, without Christ at the center, no atonement has been done. However, we should always fast with the right motive, lest we end up like the pharisee in the parable Jesus talked about.
So in your eyes, fasting for 40 days by Christ's example to join Him in His cross in order to best prepare us for His resurrection at Easter is somehow not Christ centered? You'll have to explain that one.
Defeating satan through penance. Let's make this a victorious Lent!!! And let's not limit our works. Let's do this for the world!!!
Wow! I pray to embrace reparation with a new energy1

That is the reason why they made the requirements 1 meal and 2 snacks that do not make up a meal, to make sure that the working man could participate.

The we must eat meat because god made us this way
@@gemacervantes7528 If one is to give up meat, should it not be for Christ rather than for His creation?
@@awb07d So the Order of the Minim's that this Priest was talking about, who did not eat meat, in your eyes going against God?
