I appreciate that you bring up the fact that the property has to change in order for it to live on. The people who scream, “This isn’t my TMNT” don’t realize that they already have their version of TMNT. The 90s movies, show and comic books will live in my heart because that’s what I watched and read when I was a kid. I loved this version and think they did a great job of making it relevant to today’s teens while capturing the spirit of what draws multiple generations to this franchise. 46:33 Speaking of, the IDW comics did a perfect job blending the backstories together. Splinter is both born a rat AND a reincarnation of Hamato Yoshi with all the history with Shredder. They nailed it
I loved this movie. It really felt like the *Teenage* Mutant Ninja Turtles were actually teenagers this time and not kids played by older men. Great chemistry, very funny. Loved the voice actors, action, animation, and music.
I loved this movie! Honestly my only complaint is that I wish we had a bit more bonding time with all the characters, but that’s something that can easily be touched upon with the show/next movie. This really felt like a pilot in the best way
After watching the 2012 show and being more than halfway through and the way TV has changed yeah sometimes I miss a little more character development and bonding time that we get in longer formats
Even though I'm only 16, I've known and grown up with the Turtles and know them since I was 4. I grew up watching 1987, 2012, 2007, The Next Mutation, all 3 90s movies, and the 2 Michael Bay movies and watched all of them before I became a teen. TMNT is my literal childhood, and it's nice to see that for the first time, the TMNT are voiced by teens just like me and not by older men, which probably led to them adding Gen Z words like "Rizz" and "Sus" that I totally picked up on 'cause I'm a teen. In terms of nostalgia and teen humor, this is an amazing movie! I love this movie and even watched it in theaters *5 TIMES!* can't wait for the TMNT: MM show to come out!
My 2 complaints were that Splinter and Shredders origin wasn’t really there but they can fix that easy. And the Ending, the whole thing is that they aren’t gonna be excepted by society that’s why they hide in the shadows but ehh it’s a minor nitpick. Hearing that y’all reacting to the 2012 series is cool I’ll have to check that out
It’s almost like they’re doing something different with the franchise instead of regurgitating the same plot points over and over again with slightly tweaked renditions
I agree about the voice acting with Donnie and Mikey where it feels like they should have switched. When I first saw the trailer I was distracted by the fact that they sound more like kids than teen, but maybe I'm just to use to them having more deeper mature sounding voices. Nevertheless, this film was a fun reinterpretation of the turtles with a great art style, smart music choices, and cool characters. Ice Cube is the highlight though Jackie Chan as Splinter was also really good 😎.
This movie was fun and the animation is great. But comparing the tone and story to the 2012 version, it’s much easier to love the characters from there. Especially Splinter’s character, regardless of Jackie Chan. He should always be Hamato Yoshi
i like this movie my only small problem I have with this movie was that they kept on having some throw up scenes and having splinter and scum bug be a thing other than that I love this movie and can't wait to see the second one and the series bruh
Such an awesome movie, loved Superfly. Apparently Stockman was originally going to be Superfly (the toy even reflects this), but it was changed to his "son" last minute, which I think was a pretty cool decision (Not at all butthurt that the Stockman Fly funko pop I got signed by Giancarlo Esposito is now innacurate 💀).My only complaint is that they leaned so far into the teenage aspect that it took some away from the ninja aspect. Makes me appreciate even more how 2012 really nailed the balance between those two. Realy, really hyped to see Shredder in this continuity!
Yeah I def love the 2012 show for sure so far. And yeah Superfly mightve been my favorite character; he was hilarious. Sorry about your funko pop man! And yeah; i'm def excited to see shredder. I hope hes cool.
I don’t know, even the 2012 seres made me fell they were 18 yr olds more than 14-15yr olds there wasn’t any real “kid” scenes with them, that showed them as teens or kids, Meanwhile this version is about them as kids/teens first, ninja’s second which is a very different take then most of the other series, the turtles know pop culture because that’s the only part of human society they can interact with without going outside they want to be accepted and the film deals with the shunned by society of the surface world by having them prove themselves to the world... etc. etc.
I enjoyed the movie but I didn't feel the spirit of tmnt, it didn't have the things that I like about tmnt. The message of the movie and it's theme doesn't really work for me even though I am 17. I'm fine with different iterations of tmnt existing but I really want something that goes back to the roots of the tmnt with a series close in tone to the 2003 series and the idw comic, these are my favorite iterations of tmnt. Overall an enjoyable and funny movie but didn't really work for me, something to watch with my brain off and that's it. Also just wanted to say that I really enjoy watching small channels with small communities where it is much easier for the content creators to interact with the fans in comments and so on, thanks for the great reaction to this movie, I hope you react to across the spider-verse soon since it's a really great movie.
Hey i'm glad you enjoyed the movie for what it was even though it might not be the best iteration for longtime fans. Thanks fo the love and yes; I plan on going through that for sure! We actually plan on trying to start a discord eventually so I hope I can interact even better on there with everyone.
The IDW comics are literally not for kids and or could be shown without a R rating/pg-13 rating at least so no studio will ever make it. The 2003 series was fine but even the deviated from the source material massively,
You didn’t mention the animated movie Rise of the teenage mutant ninja turtles from the show of the same name. One of the best tmnt movie ever from pne of the best tmnt series ever.
I love that these turtles have a bigger connection to the real world usually only Casey and april are the only people they know the only other movie to do that was the Micheal Bay movies
This movie was fun and alright. Glad everyone had a great time. I enjoyed it , but it’s not my favourite version of the turtles. I liked how they handled the TEENAGE part of the turtles (although can sometimes be cringey), but I kind of wanted more NINJA action. Ik the garage scene and the transition to mob gangster scene was there, but I like action with stakes in them. I did like Jackie Chan as Splinter. His fight scene is exactly what I imagine if Jackie Chan was here in the movie 😂. I wish we’d seen more of that with the turtles. Not a huge fan of them changing the origin story, but Ig it works if u want to introduce to a new young generation of audiences. Overall, I’d give it a 7/10.
I think that’s pretty much my thought as well. Definitely great for a new generation but it’s a long time fan probably a 7 1/2 out of 10. Definitely the funniest turtles I’ve ever watched though. I’m glad ninja turtles is alive and well and I hope that children and watch his will check out the stuff that came before.
The origin story is changed all the time Only the 80’s series and the 2012 series, have Splinter be a human, the 1990’s movies, 2003 series and others etc have him as a pet rat who learned martial arts from his human master the origin story for the turtles is changed every rendition, nothing new. And yeah this was more focused on the teenage side then the ninja side we;’ve seen the ninja side, all the time, and we barely ever see the family side, or it’s maligned to the point it’s a flawed family dynamic for example, i am so glad we do not have another Ralph’s anger problems are such a personality flaw, he openly has to fight and abuse his brothers at every chance I also like that Donnie isn’t immediately a machine nerd, he knows some stuff about tech, but he’s more of a cultural nerd nerd whereas every other rendition seemingly knows master PHD engineering without any explanation etc. etc.
I don’t care what anyone says, i love donnies voice, i knew several people in high school that sounded way younger then they were it’s something that is perfectly natural in high schoolers, with people who hit puberty later or shut have higher voices Donnie also is canonically the last of them to hit puberty despite not being the youngest All Mikey;s voice actor is great too, he has some of the surfer bro mentality/character, but most of him is more like gerald from hey arnold etc.
Loved this movie and your reaction ♥. As for Donnie's voice; it now sounds a bit deeper than in Mutant Mayhem (go check the behind-the-scenes of Tales of the TMNT or that spot of Leo and Donnie presenting the show) but at the very least people will stop complaining 😑

- Mutant Mayhem turtles
