Great job comparing how the two detectors work and what the best conditions are to run each detector in to get the best out of those machines !!! Looking forward to seeing what all comes out of those samples and which sample gives up the biggest piece of Gold !!!!
Yea I fought that I told my wife did you hear that she happen to be by my side thought that was a little funny it’s all good thing I know what he meant 👍😅
You have a terrific teaching style. Have you ever considered offering a metal detecting and prospecting class? I bet enough of your subscribers are close enough that if you offered in outdoor on location class to teach basic or advanced prospecting and Mining subjects, you would get quite a few takers.
I am 8 hours from Gary, I hope to have an opportunity to get down to that area this summer and spend some time with Gary or Topcat or any of those folks really!
Very informative video ! Like many have said, the analogy of fog as the "gain" on the detector is an easy way to picture in one's mind how it works . I always look forward to your gold detecting videos !!! Thanks, Gary !
It seems that the GM3 gave the strongest signal inside with all of the electronics around. Thank you for explaining how each of the different detectors work! I'm a newbie and want and need to learn as much as I can. Great video!
If you ask me the video is nowhere near long enough🌟👍 cheers for the fog example.I'm just starting out with detecting and that's a great help.I've had two professional detectors for years but don't know where to start! One of them has lots of buttons on and the other just a few it's an arado 120b if you've ever seen or heard of them. It's an antique and was made in the 70's.any more lessons would be great and much appreciated👍
I don’t think you talk too much 😂 The fog is a perfect analogy to explain the functioning of the detectors. Really interesting stuff (and I know nothing about detectors) 😂 Must be exciting after all these years having these rocks finally seeing what’s in them !
Gary. Not too long a video at all. You explained the differences really well and I like the fog analogy, anyone who drives in the fog should get it. Thank you!
Dont worry about the vid' being too long Gary. You have 19k subscrbers now so that should tell you that people like the way you do things. Your have 20k soon...congrats in advance.
Gary is getting old. Thats why he talks slow. For you guys who need more action just speed up the vid. Gary gets a funny voice so it might be worth it too. Im getting older so im looking for the slow video down button. If i only can find my glasses....
Definitely not too long Gary , probably the best analogy ,of describing how they work that i have heard so far ,made it very clear to me and hopefully others also , thanks for sharing that with us , and thanks for thinking of that on a rainy day, we appreciate your knowledge ,cheers.
Very interesting video Gary. I have had a Lobo Super Trac for about 15 years now but haven't done a lot with it. I wonder if I should pick up a smaller coil so as to get around creek beds easier and such. Anyone have any ideas?
Hey Gary, thank you for taking the time to explain and teach it is always appreciated.👍 How about you touch on the difference in coil size for the different machines as well. I am of the understanding that with a 6" coil on my GB2 it will read the deepest and be the most sensitive for gold. The bigger the coil on the VLF the more area covered in a swing but not as deep. But then I here these guys talking about putting their big coils on their PI machines to hear deeper. As well as double D coils as apposed to mono coils 🤷🏼♂️. If you have the knowledge of different coils to different machines for different situations please touch on that in the next video before you crush the conglomerate. 😁 Thanks Gary, your knowledge is invaluable and however long it takes to explain I have the time to learn.
My first ever metal detector and panning kit are on the way. I've already learned so much from your videos. I swear you could teach piloting through video and have us land a plane.
Love all your videos because you explain the reasons for what you do. I am leaving Mn to Alaska this spring. I have floated several rivers up to 80 miles and think I have found some really good areas in historic gold mining areas. I have to float down 40 miles and equipment is limited. Question I have is should I concentrate crevices areas or stream beds. I am new to metal detecting and have AT gold machine. I'm 68 so I know my limitations..
Fantastic explanation and analogy of gain and fog, helped a lot. I've been frustrated with the used detector my better half got me, it's not the detector, it's me who hasn't figured it out yet, but I'm learning and this helped a lot. All new and green to this hobby. You mentioned the lights, cameras, and computer as interference The motion detector 2 feet away in the corner might be an issue, if on. lol.... just yanking on your chain Gary. Tks Gary.... p.s. "to be continued... " nice yank on my chain, you win. Haha Looking forward to the conclusion. Again, great video.
Thanks for another great video, I really like the way you present yourself. I hope it stops raining so you can finish this one and get back up the creek :-).
You're the man Gary, I hang every word brotha- I'm learning so much from you. To even be working the same river as you several yards away would be a dream- Phoenix💥⛏⛏💰🌲🌳🤘
Nick Kaiser it takes a while. Set up targets and listen carefully to the tone and the pitch. There is a difference. Also you may have very "hot" ground . You got to ground balance it. And you will hear all kinds of noises. So you need to train your ear to the subtle differences. That's when you will be able to find gold. It takes a good month of training your ear. Do it for 5 minutes a day for untill you can tell what a gold target sounds like. Pulse machines get rid of a lot of background noises.dont give up! Most people hunt for a year before they find that first piece!
Nick Kaiser yup... If you get the chance go with someone who detects. They can give you so many tips and save you tons of time trying to develop your skills. When I started I got lucky the first 15 minutes I found 3 nuggets in a dirt road while using a buddy's detector while he was cook dinner! So I bought one too. It took 3 months before I found my next piece. Many take a year before finding that first piece. Because learning the detector is one thing learning geology and what areas to go is another! The more you network the better your gold take will be. Every detector is different. So you can hunt patches others have thouroghly hunted and still find nice gold! I have found my best gold when other folks took me to their worked out claims! Because my machine is a different frequency than theirs.😁 Hope you have good luck out there!
This was a great demonstration. Even showed how the background electrical noise affects them so a win-win really! Looking forward to the crushing of the samples! I have an old Whites Prism II, one of these days when I feel I have honestly learned something I will get a newer/better machine. I find bullets, old brass hose nozzles, needle threaders, coins and junk, all fun but I have yet to find gold with it.
That is the great thing about detecting, every target is a treasure, at least until you dig it up! For me that's the fun, plus I'm a history nut so I like anything old.
Nice explanation on types of detectors Gary. I think I'm going to sell my Pi Detector, Garrett ATX with 8" Mono Coil & Deep seeker coil with carrying case. Only used it a few times. I just want to switch over to a Minelab SDC2300.
Chris Juanz Outdoors you are making a great choice. The SDC smokes that ATX. Much better machine. But buy a good abs black coil cover for it and an elbow skid plate! I can find 1 grain pieces pretty easy with the SDC.
Chris Juanz Outdoors ATX a very good machine and so is sdc2300 they both have their places that one will outdo the other. Both machines user-friendly as long as you don't overdo Gary explained it less is more. It's not magical it does not create gold it does not come out of the closet on its own it does not know where the nuggets are you must take the detector there there are nuggets it will not find nuggets on its own go to wear you know there are nuggets pick rake dig and scratch then detect them spot you know for sure there's a nugget at least truly believe there's one. The rest will come later

Like how to determine this on the BLM website or where to find maps that show where public land is versus private land? Or any hints on places to look on the web to determine this. Thanks!
Great video cool to watch when you go out in the field if possible you should have both detectors just in case the one is going to work better than the other.

The at gold isn't very good. Any detector can find a big nugget! But most of your finds are the smaller ones. That is a low end detector. You could have gotten a Compadre and done just as well. They are only $170.oo

You might want to check these two guys out, Shane and Nigel. They're from Outback Western Australia and are real Aussie adventurers. Their latest two vids a really quite good:

This is: 2018 Adventure 4 part 6 and then there is part 7 after it.
They've just done their second season in the outback on their YT adventure and are as rough as outback Aussies come but are really finding good gold.
Cheers Gary, looking forward to the rock crushing :)
2Qwk2C sorry to hear you spent money on a 5000. That thing is way to complicated and take a good month to figure out. That's if your an experienced detectorist. Should have got the 4500 or the SDC
@@chimpchowder5774 Ohhh, I'm getting there. Good thing is I have Google and all the detectorists on there. They've been a great help. I have around 3 months to figure it out before the season starts here so I will be fine :)
You're awesome man. Thanks

Sounds like somebody playing a harmonica.
Maybe you could get a tax write-off/break by teaching prospecting & metal detecting classes in the old building or turning it into a clubhouse ?
Best of luck, & Thank You for all the vids & knowledge you pass on
