I'm still tuned in and we're best friends. Just started looking at kitty this week and your video was helpful for creating a config file for it so thanks!
Tbf, many other terminals support the sixel protocol, so you can also view images on them, installing the sixel library Konsole for example does support sixel protocol
Thank you and you’re welcome! I really like Kitty, mainly for the default tab integration. How do you like Gentoo!? I’ve never used it. How long have you used i3? I used to use it a little bit back in the day.
I'm moving from lxterminal to alacritty and kitth on different pcs to see if I prefer one. The immediate thing is kitty has broken lots of launchers in thunar that relied on lxterminal - which I'll be able to fix, but it's along the lines that the launchers call the default terminal but with lxterminal specific flags. And a problem both of them have is their being designed for tiling means they need a big, cumbersome config file with obscure concepts like alacritty's beautiful/awful/naughty. And which all breaks at once if you miss a comma.
Nothing against Alacritty or Kitty (like them both), but my preferred one is Terminator. Also... nice channel, first time commenting but been watching your videos.
Went through the same journey as you, started out on Alacritty switched to Kitty because of missing features and now I landed on WezTerm, which in my opinion is a middle ground between Alacritty and Kitty. WezTerm has just the right amount of features for me. Kitty too many, Alacritty not enough.
I started with Alacritty, i needed ligatures so i tried WezTerm. Wezterm is great but i find that it lags when scrolling in neovim, so i switched to kitty but I don't need tabs and windows since i already use tmux, and a tiling window manager, and a few of the key-maps are conflicting with my setup. I may try foot (it's apparently faster because it uses a client-server setup) and has a keyboard only mode for opening links and other functionalities which I want to try out (you may want to too)
Hey man you do you! 😅 I’ve heard a lot of people say that they love wezterm, but I installed it once and just didn’t really vibe with it. Granted, I didn’t mess around with long at all though.
@@blakehensley No worries. I was just have a laugh and role playing a Linux elitist. I was using the stock Mint terminal until a few days ago. I followed some guy's tricked out rice terminal guide. No idea what benefits this thing offers, but it is visually appealing. That's all I can really say about Wezterm lol.
@@space_audits Oh I get it, man. I love larping as a linux elitist 😭 Nah I get what you’re saying though. Yeah, it’s been awhile since I played around with wezterm! I know a lot of people customize the hell out of it.
I had to install a clipboard manager such as xclip for that to work. Are you on a desktop environment or window manager? X or Wayland? If you're on a DE like Plasma or GNOME then it should be work ootb.
try getting used to a keyboard workflow. once you realize the speed of a keyboard you will never worry about not being able to have mouse right click menus
It depends on what DE/WM you’re using. x) GNOME will have its own keybinding, Plasma has the little minimize button for applications or you can set a keybinding for it. WMs will be entirely up to you, but I personally don’t minimize windows. I leave them open until I don’t need them and when the time comes, I just close the window.
@@blakehensley Thanks, I found out about this shortly after. It was just frustrating at that moment, I changed the thingie in the config to run on GNOME so it's cool now. There's so many different way to configure it XD

I love Kitty especially it comes with image support with the python-pillow package installed
NO WAY! Ok, now i'm gonna try it. Cuz konsole has always been good enough.

I love the miniature
I watched your video to the very end and found it very informative. Thank you! I plan to install and try out kitty on my Gentoo / i3 desktop.

i didn't even know this was a thing, disabled it immediately. Thanks man, you're a legend
Anytime my guy 🤘🏼

I'll stick to foot.
Not having ligature support is straight up very bad
@@korigamik why?
kitty on macOS, installed via brew, the update interval is commented out by default.

That's fair - I've actually never used WezTerm myself but I have heard of it.

Wezterm rocks, and it's very nice just not ideal oob without some custom key binds
Hello there, new best friend! 😎
@7:08 when I looked at my config file the line containing update_check_interval 24 was commented
Can you configure the key for synchronize-panes? No!
Can you combine tmux with kitty? No!
The more immediate flaw I noticed is that "Kitty terminal" isn't "Wezterm", the superior terminal.

Are you the developer?
@node547 I'm not no. Just a part of the reasonably small userbase
how the hell do you minimize kitty? XD

Wezterm is the best of the bunch. Kitty's author is an ass, so I personally refuse to use his terminal
Funnily enough thats the reason i refused to use Alacritty lmao
Alacritty author and kitty author in the same boat then i guess
nah, he is based. get filtered.
