It's ironic, as a Catholic in my teens I too visited the Vatican thinking it would enhance my faith in God & my church, yet seeing all the gold, wealth & material goods around the Vatican & knowing that there are people starving all over the world made question everything. I knew that Jesus would rather feed the hungry & clothe the poor with the money given to the church than build a temple/shrine filled with gold, treasures & material goods. I guess what I'm saying is, I no longer look to a church, to other people or to a religion to have a relationship with God, as long as I accept Him in my heart & try my best live by His example, I'm on the right path. ok i see where your coming from and i respect the fact that after u seeing all this gold around the vatican that u still want to be a better person .. but on the other hand the church is exillent at giving to the poor and needie but the vatican is the most seacret place for catolics on earth so it has to be draped in gold, silver, beuitifull paintings ect . So Beautiful to listen to your story Simey , I for many yrs did not believe in God because of very sad loss,s that i went through, I thought God was a fairy story like Hans Christian Anderson , I could Not Believe that there was a God that would allow such terrible heartache and pain that i felt . How wrong i was, I was asked to go to Italy with my Mam , Sister and a Daughter of mine, I said OK thinking it was going to be a holiday in the sun , It turned out to be a pilgrimage that lasted for 8 days, We traveled a thousand miles in 8 days, It included an audience with the pope who at the time was John Paul 11 , We went to a lot of holy places including Lanciano, where in the 16th century i think it was a priest was changing the bread and water into the body and blood of Christ , but he did not believe it was His body and blood and it Changed into the Blood and flesh before his very eyes, During WW2 it was hidden behind a secret wall panel for safety from the Nazis. Septic scientists from the 20th century have run extensive tests on it and they found that the flesh is tissue from around the heart of a human and the blood is also real, We had communion in front of the host that holds both. We went to Assisi to the Monastery of St Francis, We received Communion in front of his lead coffin that hangs above his alter. Then we went on by couch to Loretto to Our Lady's house , It was a single red brick large room that is inside a big church and what struck me was the sheer poverty of it. Just a plain red brick room, and yet i could feel her Presence there. After that we drove on to Petricina where Padro Pio was born, High up on a mountain , When i went into the little house almost hanging off the side of the mountain once again the sheer Poverty of it struck me, His pillow on his bed was a wooden log, The guide told us there had been an earth quake the week before, She brought us up to the church at the top of this old rd and i was struck again when i went inside and seen the damage the quake had caused, Right around the walls was cracked , including the floor, the only two things that had Not been touched by the earth quake was the Tabernacle and the baptism font that Padro Pio had been baptized in. We were taken to a room carved out of a cliff where as a young man Padro Pio had studied , It was just a single simple room , the guide brought our attention to a wooden chair that was in the corner and told us the leg had been broken over Paro Pios back because he would not be tempted by Satan, He had sent evil spirits nude women but Padro pio refused to look at them and was assaulted with the chair. We last went to San Giovani Rotundo to the monastery where he lived for 50 yrs. We were in the room that he lived in and his shoes were there still with the blood in them from the stigmata that he suffered for all that time. I ended up getting confession there and through the Grace of God the cotton wool was lifted from my eyes and i could see that God was Not a fairy story, I Thank God today for God in my life, He has brought me though So Much and my heart is Full of Love and Gratitude for Him. This is fucking mad. I'm from Coolock in Dublin and don't have a travelling background. But so many similarities between us 2 Simey. Iv 2older brothers and 2 younger and right from a young age had been dealing and doing drugs all the time. Long story short Simey I was stripped badly in Cloverhill by a fella me brother had got a few years ago and when me daughter seen me after surgery and the roars of her I needed to change me life because had a young lad as well. Even though organised religion is definitely bad, as a traveller myself I can say that there are many parts of the Bible that are great for providing people with a moral compass even if you don't believe in God.

I’ve totally lost my faith , my husband died 8/10/18 of a very rare bone cancer the cancer took his life within 4 days . Myself n our kids never got to say good bye as he was taken to a hospital 200 miles away . I just can’t forgive now .
Sister I went through a similar experience, my husband and i put our twins in the ground, one girl was dead when she was born the other lived 3 weeks. We lost 10 children in total. It is do hard I turned my back on God for 8 years. God still loves and it isn't fair. I hope by the time you read this you have found some comfort. I hope that God has become so real to you and you have found joy in him.

Even though organised religion is definitely bad, as a traveller myself I can say that there are many parts of the Bible that are great for providing people with a moral compass even if you don't believe in God.

I’ve totally lost my faith , my husband died 8/10/18 of a very rare bone cancer the cancer took his life within 4 days . Myself n our kids never got to say good bye as he was taken to a hospital 200 miles away . I just can’t forgive now .

Sister I went through a similar experience, my husband and i put our twins in the ground, one girl was dead when she was born the other lived 3 weeks. We lost 10 children in total. It is do hard I turned my back on God for 8 years. God still loves and it isn't fair. I hope by the time you read this you have found some comfort. I hope that God has become so real to you and you have found joy in him.
