Some dog lovers tend to raise a heavy weapon called "dog rights" against eating dog meat. However, in reality, there is no such thing as dog rights. Because rights belong to human beings, are unique to them, and can only be used for their survival and development. What is the result of the nonsense of advocating dog rights? It is clear enough that this nonsense about dog rights will inevitably violate human rights. Just as dog lovers now trying to ban others from celebrating dog meat festivals and eating dog meat in the name of protecting dog rights, this is a serious violation of human rights.
People are rational animals, dogs are not. Dogs and humans are fundamentally different in terms of rationality, so humans have human rights and dogs do not have dog rights. If someone steals your dog, kills it, cooks it, and eats it, that is a violation of your rights, i.e., violating your property rights or your ownership of your dog, it is not a violation of your dog's rights.
If the dog has its rights, then there is no need to assign dog rights to the dogs at all, because the dog rights are simply there regardless of whether you want to give the dogs with dog rights or not. If the dogs have no dog rights, then no matter how hard you try to grant the dogs with dog rights, the dogs still don't have dog rights. A given right is not a right because something that can be given actually means it can be taken back in the future.
So, what may or may not be conferred is never a right but a power. All due rights must be respected and must not be violated. A right is an objective concept and what makes a right a right is that regardless of whether you are happy or unhappy, given or not given, it is always there, it must be respected and it must not be violated.
A right is an objective concept, and it has nothing to do with whether or not it is recognized by others or how many people recognize it.
In the matter of rights, the number of people is not decisive. Human rights are not conferred by anyone but are inherent from nature, and this is what is meant by "human rights are from nature".
Rothbard explains it well enough: "Individuals have rights not because we 'think' they should have the rights, but because of a rational inquiry into the nature of man and the nature of the world. In short, humans naturally have human rights because they are a natural right. These rights are rooted in the nature of human beings." This is why only humans have "natural rights" and dogs do not.
Humans are rational animals, dogs are not, so humans have human rights and dogs do not have dog rights. Advocating for dog rights does not make a dog intelligent or humane; a dog is still a dog. Therefore, if someone denies the essential difference in rationality between humans and dogs and stupidly asserts that dogs have dog rights, they are mistaking humans for dogs or equating humans with dogs. This is in fact a typical anti-intellectual act, and the consequences of such a mistake are very serious.
For if dogs do have dog rights, then others can immediately rescue dogs kept by dog lovers as pets in the name of protecting dog rights. Because whether dog lovers call their dogs friends or companions, dog lovers who keep their dogs essentially treat their dogs as slaves and basically keep their dogs in captivity and domestication, not to mention the cruelty of de-sexing and neutering that dog lovers did to their dogs.
This is why some animal protection groups have declared: "We would like to see one day that all pet shops close and stop breeding dogs. All pet dogs should be released and allowed to pursue their natural lives in the wild. They should have a completely natural life. Not stay at home and wait for people to come home at night, play with them as pets and then just sit there and watch TV." (Chicago Daily Herald, March 1, 1990)
If this logic of animal rights were enforced, dog lovers would also be denied the right to own their dogs. Even more frightening is the fact that this logic of protecting animal rights can be extrapolated infinitely. For although there is only one truth, emotions can spill over boundlessly. Since dog lovers think that rights are a product of emotion, so they can endow dogs with dog rights, then pig lovers can also reckon that pigs are cute, and of course, they can advocate for pig rights for pigs, so that no one can raise pigs and eat pork anymore. Can you say that those who love pigs are not as good as you dog lovers?
And by extension, so would all other animals such as cows, sheep, chickens, ducks, fish, and so on should also be granted with their rights accordingly, so that the meat of cows, sheep, chickens, ducks, fish, and all other animals would no longer allow being eaten either.
In fact, there are already plant rights groups arguing that humans cannot eat salads because it is a violation of vegetable rights. What is the result of this logic constantly developing? The obvious result is that human rights will be violated inevitably, and the human being will be left with nothing to eat but extinction.
In fact, there are already calls for a "voluntary human destruction movement" to encourage the gradual elimination of the human race.
Are these calls more extreme than one another? Definitely not. Because they are the result of the development of this anti-intellectual and anti-rational logic of animal empowerment.
That is why we, as normal people with logical thought, must emphasize to dog lovers the well-known common sense of our human society: rights are a product of human rationality and belong exclusively to human beings, not something you dog lovers can grant to dogs whenever you want to. It is an indisputable fact that the abusive granting of rights to animals will inevitably jeopardize the survival and development of humans themselves. And if this door is opened, the consequences of the disaster to humans will be endless.
