    Awesome tutorial! It was a bit difficult equating the instructions to the new version of Gimp, but it helped me get more familiar with the tools and such, but regardless thanks for making this video

    I'm using a newer version of GIMP I didn't now how to get the gradient to be so subtle at 4:48 so I duplicated the 2nd layer and made a pink to white custom gradient, deleted the lower third on the new layer and made it go from white to pink.

    In GIMP 2.10 it seems that the gaussian blur plugin is different from the version you're using (150 produces a very larger blur).
    Actually, also the "HSV Noise" is different in result...

      Yeah, don't just get spoon fed, make adjustements you will still get the result he portrays. For me just a value of 30 works fine for the blur I want but you may seek to deviate. It's up to you.

      Just had the same issue. Plus the 2.10 blurs and gradients don't seem to fade very well. I just went back to 2.8 and it seems to be working much better. Plus scripts work again.

      in the newer gimp version its much easier to adjust the most effects, except the Noise.. it was pain in the ass until i had a result i was fine with and that it looked like in the video.

    Anyone able to tell me why when I do the blur stage of the background text layer, the preview blends smooth, but when I apply I get a really distinct 'cutout' affect around the blur instead of smooth fade to black?

    The stars and lens flare weren't too customizable, so I used some stock photos with blending mode set to "screen" instead. Maybe you mentioned that already, but if not, then that is a useful trick that might help some of ya'll out.

    Is there a way to make an updated version of this or tell me what version of GIMP you used in this tutorial? Your instructions are spot on and easy to follow, but since Gimp has updated the instructions don't exactly work in the same way. Some things have been changed. Your tutorials have helped me greatly in the past.

    Everything is fine for me up until 11:09. In the new version of GIMP the HSV Noise screen looks completely different and has different values. I'm stumped on what to do.

      you had to play around w it for a bit, i don't remember but i followed him up until the gaussian blur step. i think i set it at 2 and for the color levels (from left to right) i put 31 3.00 47 it looks sort of like it. hope it helps even tho it's mad late.

      Instead of "select none", click on the "Move Tool" and that will do the trick.

      Yeah this could certainly be done in Inkscape as well. In fact I originally planned for this to be an Inkscape tutorial, but I liked how it came out with GIMP better, and I think it's a tad bit easier to do with GIMP as well.

      I like to do this effect by combining Inkscape and GIMP, making the base text in inkscape for maximum flexibility, then importing into GIMP and adding additional shading and effects. It's a nice workflow

    Great tutorial.
    But i am using gimp 2.10.0 and i cannot get the stars to show.
    Is there something different in 2.10 that affects the way filters work?
    I go Filters - Noise - HSV and the window is different to what you had. No matter what settings i try i cannot get the same effect.

    When I go to Alpha to selection it just does not select the bottom half of the letters,instead it selects around all of them again in which defeats the entire purpose.

    Followed this to the letter but i'm having a problem the the allign tool not alligned. I've selected "relative to image" as you have and i even, for good measure, recreated your little adjustment with the move tool before hand just to make sure its not a selection problem. I am running 2.10.6

    Despite me using Gimp 2, you're tutorial was phenomenal. My only issue is the desaturation of the lens flare - still had notes of grey after adjusting the color curves.

    Ok in GIMP 2.10.18 when I try to change the textbox to dynamic it keeps forcing it back to fixed. Any help for that? Cant seem to find anything about it online.

    Not sure why your "grow" selection at 5:55 is much chunkier than mine is, mine is so thin and I'm at the same setting as yours. And the Gaussian Blur for me, under the same settings as your's, goes nuts on me and is nowhere near as subtle as yours is...I don't know what Gimp is doing for me lmao.

    i've been following along and every time i choose "select none" it fills the whole rectangle surrounding the text with the gradient, completely covering the text.

      Try switching away from the blend tool (Gradient in 2.10) before choosing "select none". I kept getting that same issue, and it was driving me nuts until I figured out this solution. I hope it works the same on your end.

      Simply hitting "enter" after applying the gradient may work as well.

      Whenever you make the gradient, be sure to hit "enter" on the keyboard before deselecting to finalise it :)

    i always like to think outside the box, and when it comes to gimp, everyone has there own way of doing things, but this simple trick right here just knocked down my process by 10 layers.
