@Kebab K the only reason why he was willing to kill the clones is because he was manipulated by the scientists into thinking that they weren't actual human beings and that fighting all of them was the only way for him to live peacefully alone (yes, achieving level 6 was not his true goal).
Realizing how wrong he was basically traumatized him for life. He even went temporarily insane a few times at the mere thought of hurting another clone.
Guess he need to learn from the professional mom, Shirou Emiya.

Katelyn Pringle In the novel Accelerator chose some normal bandages at first, but spots children's bandages behind the counter and picks those instead.
(He then spotted some more colorful bandages lined up on a shelf right next to the register counter. They seemed to be marketed towards children. A number of different kits for simple injuries were lined up with them. They seemed to be leftovers from the Daihaseisai.
“What are these? How are they different from the normal ones?” he asked.
The clerk frantically answered while looking like his heart was trying to escape through his mouth. One was a disinfectant that would not sting. One was a bandage with an adhesive that would not stick to the injury itself. One was a normal cloth bandage with a sweet aroma that would mask any medicinal smell. Apparently they were all designed with children in mind.
Accelerator thought for a bit on the fact that they were made for children.

He kicked the counter with one foot.
The clerk smiled while looking like he was about to faint. But his expression relaxed a bit when Accelerator tossed the children’s disinfectant and adhesive bandages into his basket. He may have thought Accelerator was a kid who hated scabs despite his tough appearance.)

khaliyah jefferson every time the two of them fight something changes about Accelerator because of Touma. Without him none of those changes would’ve happened and he wouldn’t have been the character we see today is what I’m saying. Like it or not Touma help shape the guy into what he is now
Accelerator is one of the best written characters I've seen. He's a person who puts up a strong front to be reassuring. He acts strong so that Last Order can feel comfortable and secure. He's also the best of Red Herrings. We thought of him as just a psychopath at first, but even at our first sight of him, he left one bit of insight as to why he took part in the experiment:
"I want the idea of fighting me to be inconceivable."
This mantra leads insight as to who he is. I didn't notice it in my first viewing of Index, but after rewatching it with a buddy, I noticed it the first moment I saw him. He wanted to be so strong that no one would ever fight him. Therefore, no one would get hurt.
Accelerator endlessly relives tragedy. He sees his past and it weighs on him and he moves along as he feels is the right thing. It also helps that Touma serves as both a counterbalance and almost a mentor influence.
"Does it matter whether you're a hero or a villain? If there's someone crying out for help and you wish to protect them, does it really matter if you're a hero or villain?" -Paraphrasing of Touma. Which after that, Accelerator acknowledges pure respect of Touma.
"Mottaku. The person who never considered whether he was a hero or a villain was the first person to jump in to help protect someone." -Accelerator.
A person who is truly crass and psychopathic would never have these moral dilemmas and crises. He's a good embodiment of gray morality. Good person with incorrect actions. When given proper direction, he can do wonderful things.
He regrets how he had taken part in the experiment. Realizing, after Touma's punch to the face, that he went about it wrong. Then he fought so that the Misaka clones wouldn't have to go through with it anymore.
All of this knowledge of who he is prior makes even his more neurotic moments enjoyable. It does help that his voice actor is also REALLY into voicing Accelerator. Accelerator is the perfect human being, in his inperfection.

I agree with nearly everything you wrote, but Accelerator respected Touma long before that second punch.
Accelerator reminds me on a more brutal and angry version of Kazuma.
@@Spartan135 Hmm. I would like to disagree here. I think Kazuma is a scumbag, but he's not bogged down by "a villain's aesthetic" in fact, I'd say that Kazuma's more of an adult in mentality than Accelerator. Kazuma, unlike Accelerator, has a gray and grey morality and Konosuba's depiction of gray and grey in their humor is a major appeal. As the cast of Konosuba are scummy, just trying to live their lives to the fullest.
Accelerator's a different story. He's very black and white in morality, even if ill expressed. He calls himself a villain, despite (most) of his actions being for the greater good.
(Albeit he does have a sadistic streak and reminds us of that in the new spinoff, where he vehemently tortures the Scavengers. One to the point where he electrocutes someone and expects them to enjoy it.)
Another favorite line of that scene is this:
"Bad as I am, I don't like to pick on little kids."
This quote is a major insight to him as well. He's got a false equivalency as to what makes a villain, but inevitably he's an anti-hero, possibly an anti-villain and a low possibility of being a hero with a child's mindset.
Accelerator is a fascinating case study and one of many factors that make To Aru such an interesting series.

I find Index so insufferable I can't watch any scenes with her in them, yet I love Mini MIsaka. Her story and Accelerator's relationship is the most interesting thing the entire show, without competition.

NGL, Accelerator was the main reason why I had to bear with the whole Index series with the annoying MC preaching self righteous morals and religious bullcrap like evil priests and stuff but it's worth it in the end.

Accelerator has to be my favourite character due to the fact that he changes alot through the toaru series and these changes are good, it makes me smile knowing that he has good character development through the series. He's an awesome character, love him.

やっぱり初期は兄妹って感じだな、、、そこから様々な危機を乗り越えて、絆が生まれた。その成長と進化を見れる2人が好き。
Despite constantly being targeted and kidnapped, Last Order is still pretty well protected.
- Has the top ranked Level 5 as her guardian.
- Has network of her 'Sisters' at her disposal. (an instant army if you ask me)
- Has the Imagine Breaker and the 3rd ranked Level 5 who would do anything to protect her should anything happens to Accelerator.
- Best friends with another girl with the 4th ranked Level 5 as her guardian.
- Ordinary back-alley thugs just doesn't stand a chance against the 'smile' that can stop a rampaging Level 5.

I love how he is well known number one esper of academy city, yet he just walks around randomly and no one seems to notice him.
Not exactly. People try and try to kill him to proove themselves or check if he lost all his power after battle with Touma. Or they just run away. Not shown clearly in the anime.
It was explained in the lore that people who "created" him wanted his death no matter what when he was a kid, but in the end they gave up and Accelerator became an urban legend of Academy City

This goes to show that even a certified bastard with a vein of cruelty as wide as the Bering Strait can have a shred of decency hidden somewhere behind that foul-mouthed, violent, destructive facade. And that shred is called Last Order.
Though Komoe-sensei takes the cake for being the best damn punchline in this entire video. Accelerator's reaction to her is just priceless, and Last Order's comments are the cherry on top. They make such a good pair.
Well, he was actually good guy all along. Things went south when people tried to prove themselves strong by trying to fight Accelerator. Accelerator hated that and agreed to join the level 6 project because he was told clones weren't real human and that by reaching level 6, no one would dare to challenge him anymore, thus nobody gets hurt anymore. That's when he started to lose himself and turned to be certified bastard. And his fight with Touma made him realized his true nature again and decided to redeem himself by protecting all sisters at all cost. Though he had turned into a tsundere that can't be honest without showing any form of irritation. Meanwhile people, besides Yomikawa and other woman that had been looking after him, only knew him as a sadistic evil esper.
"With the state i'm now, i might have to consider retiring as the strongest in Academy City
But still, i....
I've decided to claim myself as the strongest in front of that kid"
