This video hits close to home! As someone who grew up studying Nepali, I can relate to the struggles kids face these days. It's refreshing to see this topic being discussed openly and honestly. Thank you for addressing the underlying reasons behind why kids may find it challenging to study Nepali. Let's work together to find innovative ways to make learning the language more engaging and relevant for the younger generation. Your video has sparked an important conversation, and I'm grateful for your efforts in bringing awareness to this issue. Keep up the great work!

As part of madgesh we love nepali as its our identity and unite us. I am always proud of nepali also madheshi core language is maithli but whenever we speak Maithili or nepali i will always say i feel proud in front of other speaking nepali.
I speak Nepali, but since a lot of my friend speak Maithili, I love listening to Maithili as it is a very polite language, although I cant reply in maithili, I understand every bit of it.
Something I like abt nepalis that speak Maithili, bhojpuri, bajjika, Awadhi is that they mix Nepali words when they speak their ghar bhasa. The Nepali rapper D1 is a good example of this

When I was in school nepali was the hardest subject for me like maths way easier than nepali. I think the main reason Nepali is hated because nepali exams tries to test the speed of nepali writing instead of knowledge.

Yeah Maithili is unfortunately losing day by day but there are Nepali people who make songs in Maithili, bhojpuri and Awadhi. D1, Nawaj and Shabdajaal dajuharu made a rap called "Madhesh Gang" recently, it's very good. Btw Maithili is still Nepal's second biggest language. It's still quite major despite this loss.

I respect your opinion on how private school students find difficult studying Nepali grammar. But there are many reasons to it first thing first, all subjects except nepali are taught in English. Second thing is private school students are fined with certain amount of money and even punishment such as writing two to three pages of sentences like "i will speak in English... I will speak in English" if they speak nepali in school premises. Third thing, as you said in a video too even experts have arguments about the use and disuse of certain Nepali letter and arguments is still going on . So not only private students but government school students are getting confused too. Anyway great analysis !
Don't you have like Nepali competitions? I live in India and we had regular Sanskrit competitions. The thing is, both Nepali and Indian education systems are colonial. Even tho Nepal was never fully colonised, it has adopted the colonial education system. Most schools make you literate instead of educated. I'm in 12th now and I haven't written Hindi in 2 years. It's all English now. Schools should focus on making us educated, do taxes and tech us morals, but instead, we are taught "Mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell"

I am so glad that someone made a video about this. I personally have no problem reading and writing in Nepali, although I feel like vocabulary is shrinking everyday. Most of my friends moan when I share an article written in Nepali because reading in Nepali makes them dizzy. It’s bit disheartening. I 100% blame schools for this. Punishing students for speaking Nepali made no sense, now a generation of Nepalis subconsciously associate Nepali language with punishment. Had we have given equal respect to English, Nepali and ethnic languages in our school curriculum, we could have been nation of proper tri-linguals. For all tedious and complication of Nepali grammar, where I personally believe some rules are arbitrary and redundant, I enjoy the little nuances within it.
It is largely the school's fault, but the नेपाली जनता ourselves are responsible too. We as Nepalis have no pride and associate our culture as "Pakhe" while worshipping western culture

As someone who studied in Nepal but had to take a tuition for Nepali, I feel for the students. The topic related to grammar depends on the teacher however, there are some unnecessary writing that are required during the exam which makes studying Nepali irritating. When you read a story or poem, rather than analyzing and interpreting what it means, you were supposed to write the history about the author from where they were born, the date they were born and something similarly unnecessary so that you can cover the one or two pages rather than the interpretation of the topic. I believe I just passed my SLC exam because I would score almost full points in the 'bykaran' section but I could not write the unnecessary stuff related to the literature. Similar stories and poems related questions are also asked in English however, it does not need the unnecessary information. However, there are weaknesses related to the English-language teaching as well. Rather than focusing on the structure of an essay, structure of stories or something similar we are more focused on creating multiple pages. I studied Bachelor's from an internationally affiliated university where I learned that there are structures to essay and story. I was considered a 'good' student but I was never good with these courses where I had to write long just for the sake of writing. I like the idea of studying other courses in Nepali to make Nepali stronger. I do feel that we can do most of the courses in English but keep some course like Social Studies and History or something similar in Nepali so that people feel that Nepali is used in other places as well rather than only as a course in School. As someone who is outside Nepal at the moment, I feel that studying in English has helped us Nepalese because I hear stories from friends of other countries where they had to struggle to learn English however we don't have the problem. But at least it is good that we also keep Nepali relevant. Thank you for the interesting video, just wanted to
Yes Sukrit dai. The one thing I always had a hard time in Nepali subject back then was to memorize and write the history of the authors and their ways of writing and their perspective in some cases as well. Most of the times, I didn't even know what to write about them; on a hindsight though, it might have been relevant to know the history and the people that wrote the literature, but the memorization part could have been put in a better learning system. Another part where I feel the need to strengthen the language of Nepal and other languages prevalent in our society is because there's much more to our culture than the modern development.
That's for expanding your knowledge and broadening your mindset. In English you also have to write about writers. Like from the peom" my heart leaps up when I behold" a question was asked , explain the paradox " the child is the father of man". To answer this you have to write about auther William worthwords. I love specially this part of writing because it feels good to me when I write, even though I don't understand or explain in deatils about this phrase auther history help me to make my answer long and sensible 😅
I'm glad someone actually brought attention to this topic! Coming from someone who attends a private school in Nepal, it is safe to say that we don't actually have a problem with the Nepali language itself; it's the way Nepali is being taught. It's almost like the dialect is optional- you either learn it or you don't. It is an utterly disregarded subject at most other schools. Institutions like Ullens and Rato Bangala do respect the subject and as far as I'm concerned, we students do, too, and can actually converse well in the dialect. Other schools, however, are a different matter.
Thank you for speaking out about this because the nepali language we speak today is so hard to study the grammar is not consistent, you don't know where any pf the letters are used etc. This is a big deal like everyone is failing nepali and we just don't know how to improve it.
Sanskrit best language Sanskrit's phonetic accuracy plays a significant role in its perfection. Each letter has a distinct sound in Sanskrit that doesn't vary when used in different words and contexts. A in Sanskrit will sound the same regardless of the context.

Personally, I love Nepali both as a language and a subject than English. I find Nepali very easy to read, write, speak generally express let's say. And it makes me wonder that students now find it both difficult and unwilling to learn. Modernization and globalisation may be the biggest reason for it. Though English is an universal language but it more confusing than Nepali. Same word can give multiple meanings. I find Nepali more accurate and easier as oppose to other similar devanagari script of Hindi where the written and spoken techniques are different. I feel like Social Studies should be taught compulsorily in Nepali language. Most of the things we learned in that subject have huge relevance in our daily lives. We learned it in English without understanding the nuances of majority of topics and have consequently, forgotten most of them. Had it been taught in Nepali, it would have made us much more conscious of politics and societal issues. Apologies for the confusion in my previous response. If you are a Nepali person studying Nepali, it's important to note that studying a language you already speak can present unique challenges. Here are some reasons why Nepali might be perceived as difficult for Nepali people studying it: 1. Informal Spoken Language: Nepali has a distinct informal spoken language with various dialects and regional variations. This informal language might differ significantly from the formal written Nepali that is taught in schools. As a result, Nepali people may need to adjust their language usage and learn the formal aspects of the language when studying it academically. 2. Lack of Formal Education: Some Nepali people might not have had extensive formal education or exposure to the rules and complexities of the Nepali language. This can make it challenging to study the language systematically, particularly aspects such as grammar, sentence structure, and vocabulary. 3. Complacency with Fluency: Native speakers of any language often rely on intuition and natural fluency without consciously knowing the grammatical rules or complexities. When studying their own language, Nepali people might face the challenge of breaking down their intuitive knowledge into formal rules and structures, which can be demanding. 4. Limited Exposure to Written Language: In certain cases, individuals who predominantly communicate in spoken Nepali may have limited exposure to the written form of the language. Becoming proficient in reading and writing Nepali requires additional effort to acquire and practice the Devanagari script and expand vocabulary through reading. 5. Dialectical Differences: Nepal is a linguistically diverse country with numerous dialects and languages spoken across its regions. People from different regions might face difficulties in studying the standardized form of Nepali if their native dialect differs significantly from the standard language. Despite these challenges, studying Nepali as a Nepali person can have advantages too. Native speakers already have a strong foundation in the language and can focus on refining their skills, expanding vocabulary, and developing a deeper understanding of the formal aspects of Nepali. Regular practice, exposure to written materials, and seeking assistance from language resources can greatly aid in the process of studying Nepali.

Personally, I find it hard to express myself properly in Nepali. For example: ‘inspire’, we rarely use it in Nepali. Prerana. Or positivity. Or mindset. We need to ensure these positive words and more are more frequently used in our culture
I remember getting suspended multiple times for conversing in Nepali back in my school days. Yeah, you read it right - SUSPENDED for conversing in my national language. I have a separate mother tongue but I grew up in Kathmandu and my main language still was and is Nepali. However, for some needless Western inferiority, I stand here with a better grasp of a foreign language than my own one. This is truly a sad reality for a good deal of kids from the 2000s who grew up in the capital city. I am always left in awe when I hear elders speaking flowery Nepalese vocabulary effortlessly. While my Nepali isn't anything bad, I would prefer it to be way better than what it is. The private education system of our country has had a major role in shaping young minds' perception of the Nepali language. This, I believe, has to stop. Edit 1 - If this offends people whose mother tongue is not Nepali, I didn't mean to call Nepali my main language as in it being my culture's major mode of communication. I grew up in a city dominated by Nepali (and Newari) speaking folks, and hence it being my "main" language. I still am extremely fluent at my mother tongue, and consistently speak in it when I am around my ancestral home. Edit 2 - Watched the video twice, and this one is really not up to the quality I expected from this channel. The research was sparse and not as tight as in your other videos. I hope you guys don't resort to superficial and easy ways out like you did in this video of yours.
Yeah honestly Nepali schools r crazy for forcing English down ppls throats. Like they should allow ppl like you to speak it but teach in angrezi. Btw what is ur Ghar bhasa, is it one of the other major Nepali languages like Maithili/Bhojpuri?
So basically they (ruling class) wanted people to speak Nepali language to make them nationalistic. Side effect of that is most natives have forgotten to write and to even speak their native language. In technical term it is called a cultural genocide.
Daura Suruwal and Gunyo Cholo used to be taught as national attire of Nepal and Dhidho and Gundruk as National food during our school days. Well that was the condition of a nation which preached "Unity in Diversity" while deeming ethnic language, attire and culture as second-class.
As a child, we were punished harshly , made fun of in front of the class and even collected fines just because we spoke Nepali and other mother tongue. I grew up in Newa society so i didn't even have to speak Nepali that often. But our shit hole of a school made it look like speakjng anything other than English was a crime. I even thiught that it was right until i started to realize how fucked up it was. Although, it did helped us to improve our English speaking skills. And our Nepali teacher knew more about maths then Nepali 😂

You have raised a great topic❤

Sanskrit's phonetic accuracy plays a significant role in its perfection.

Apologies for the confusion in my previous response. If you are a Nepali person studying Nepali, it's important to note that studying a language you already speak can present unique challenges. Here are some reasons why Nepali might be perceived as difficult for Nepali people studying it:

हामी नेपालीमा टाइप गर्न सुरु गरेर फरक पार्न सक्छौं !! मलाई थाहा छ यो गाह्रो छ तर हामी सक्दो प्रयास गरौं।😊
It has been 16 years of my life studying school and college, i don't hate nepali it just that i can't read ,write and understand nepali language . It's funny for others but i have been suffering difficult in day to day life. Even my psychologist was surprised, it's not that i didn't try to understand but i just can't ..
It is one of the reasons for my anxiety and depression. I also give 12 reexam of Nepal and social ( it's also in nepali)...not sure if i made it through.
Everything is hard when you don't try so it's better to try and keep trying study Nepali 🇳🇵❤️❤️
🔥 Mind-Blown! This video just shattered all my preconceived notions about why kids these days dislike studying Nepali. The insightful analysis and thought-provoking explanations left me speechless. Kudos to the creator for shedding light on this important issue and encouraging us to rethink our approach to teaching Nepali. 💯💡 Who else is feeling enlightened after watching this? According to present constitution, all the mother tounge spoken in nepal is national language of Nepal. And we should also focus on mother tounge language as well as Nepali and English. In fact even other languages like Chinese and other has also great importance at present Era. Every language has its own important at different stages of life. At present I live in China, and now I am thinking, if I would have learned Chinese language from school days rather then English, it would be much easier for me to stay here. Anyway good wishes to all the native speakers.

Like Maithili, Bhojpuri, Awadhi, Bajjika, Newari,Tharu etc?

No sufficient budget to print indigenous language text books and hire teachers to teach indigenous language.

We need a simplified nepali language just like simplified chinese used in Mainland China. Simple language=more adoption= Chance to compete with other foreign languages
Chinese script is character based but Devanagari is letter based.
Simplifying the characters is understandable but idk how could one simplify Devanagari.
@@Hithere-qj1wj that is where the expert come in. It is not up to non expert to simplify it.
@@PickAviewStudio
Devanagari is already a simplified script.
Any further changes would only make it vague and illegible.
@@Hithere-qj1wj I think it can be further simplified. Like remove the concept of rashwa and dirga. Use ba and wa only on words that sounds ba and wa. That's already going to help a lot
@@yala_babu
It is true regarding ba and wa but rashwa and dirga still plays a important role for clarity in this language.

90s kids are the last ones who can properly read and write nepali. I am really worried about future of nepali literature.😢
Nice topic😮❤
Nepali language is more sophisticated than English. Nepali language has 64 alphabet and english has only 32, now imagine learning Tamil language which has 247 Alphabet 😢
The number of alphabets in a language doesn’t determine it’s sophistication. No language is inherently sophisticated. Each language is complex in its own way
English as 32 Alphabets? Are not they 26. 21 Consonants and 5 Vowel.
@@lex-jy3tw No, Actually Sanskrit derieved languages are much more sophisticated than any European language. You can see just by arrangement of swar and vyanjans. It is easier to type in English tho as there are less letters. But there are many words you cannot write or read like names using English but other way around.
I am so glad 11 12 social maa Nepali thiyoo it's helps me a lots now my Nepali writing and improve so much ❤
