I love Amy and Marc for their intelligence and sense of humour ❤ That bedroom is the most beautiful I’ve seen on all the chateau vlogs I think. I spotted a king parrot on the wall fabric. One of my favourite birds here in Australia. Good to see Joseph Banks get a mention. He came to Australia with James Cook and took so many botanical samples back to England. Botany Bay was named because of this. The history of the chateau is amazing. Well done Stephanie and Philip for your work in bringing us this wonderful vLog👏👏👏😘

Food for thought: The mystery of the Chateau de Rosières and its manmade stone formation is certainly intriguing. The unusually heavy presence of sulfur on some of the granite stones might point to a couple of possible theories. Sulfur was used in ancient religious ceremonies for fumigation, purification of the air surfaces to protect against disease and also as incense. The hilltop location would fit the idea of a religious site connection. Another thought is that in medieval times sulfur was used along with charcoal (fire pit) and saltpeter to make gunpowder. In a later medieval era the gunpowder was ‘corned’, that is, it was placed in covered or vaulted areas to dry it out. Eventually the separate ingredients were also milled into a finer powder and then mixed together for greater explosive effect. Gunpowder was made in times of war at individual castles/chateaux but for safety it was usually made at a site some distance from the chateaux and stored away from inhabited buildings. How many are now left wondering if the mystery will ever be solved?

I genuinely encourage everyone to support their channel in any way that you can! This area of France is so under-represented in tourism and even general conversation -- it deserves much more of out attention!

Consider having a LIDAR scan of the Chateau grounds. First it may reveal new areas of interest, second it can give you the physical context of the features and their relationship to each other. I am not sure what the chemical make up of your spring water is, but does it have a Sulphur component, the spring may have fed into the gaulic platform, leaving a residue of Sulphur over time. A geologist maybe of great help answering the Sulphur question and be able to tell you if the stone make up is local or brought in. Since the spring is capped hard to tell where original flow was or if it had been diverted previously. They could try partnering with a university that does specialize in the era to study. Or apply to Time Team to get it started. It looks like a really cool place.

I love Mac's accent, his English is excellent, and Amy is so well educated on the history of their Chateau. I absolutely love the green tiled splash back that the lovely Amy made herself, and being a potter myself, I think it is stunning, and would have it in my own home. I love that the family are living their family lives in their Chateau, it is a truly, living and breathing family home, and yet, they are still keeping the history of the building, and treating her with the utmost respect. The room you and Philip stayed in is just stunning. Thank you for such a wonderful, and educational video Stephanie. Love, as always, from a windy, wet, yet beautiful Devon, England. xxx

The holes in the wall look like draft holes, you have air coming in to help the smoke from fires rise and leave through the roof. Also if a fire is closer to the holes it would help the fire become hotter.

In America, we would often store coal at the highest peak to ensure less devastation from fire! Reaching a bit, but if he’s correct that that was a foundation for a wooden structure and it was a massive coal store, that would explain the sulfur and the holes! They were built to allow the coal dust to escape with air to prevent buildup and decrease the risk of fires 🤗

This chateau is magnificent and the owners such a lovely family. Their excitement for ongoing and future projects is infectious. What an undertaking and to think that they are surrounded by such history! I love it! Thank you Stephanie and Philip for this vlog and introducing us to yet another magnificent chateau🥰

Wow Wonderland with Forest and Chateau. Beautiful Mark and Amy! I'll go to the other vlog mix and watch from the start. Bluebird 123 suggested that the tunnels under the stone platform was for air under the fire. Hope an expert was to volunteer and write up a paper on this Chateau.😘😘😘

I had the same thought, that these are air holes to keep a fire oxygenated.
