  • If dressing up like a Bee Keeper is your thing than this is the hike for you. Stunningly beautiful, this area is breathtaking with so much jaw dropping scenery it borders on overwhelming. Taking the time to enjoy said scenery though is challenging. As soon as you stop moving the onslaught of sandflies begins and is relentless. How you manage this has a big impact on your enjoyment and how much scratching you will be doing for the next couple weeks as bites take a long time to settle. Enjoy!

Great to see you here in NZ. Stunning country down there, that's for sure. And no Red Belly snakes or crocks or dining table size spiders. Mind you, sit still long enough & the sandfly will suck you dry 😂. I had a mate who forgot to zip up the tent, he woke up the next morning looking like a prune. Took 3 days solid drinking buckets of water before he filled out again! I enjoy your channel. The scenery & serenity is really nice to relax to with a cup of coffee in hand 😎

😆 that made me laugh mate thanks. I think I'll take nearly anything over sandflies, although their absence definitely gave me a higher appreciation of the river I hiked along on my first trip back in AU.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Cheers

Aspiring NP is one of the most stunning and dramatic parts of NZ. Glad you got to spend some time there. Sorry about the sandflies though 😂. According to Māori legend they were put there to keep people away from from these beautiful places so they wouldn’t spoil these areas.

😆 thanks for your condolences. Hopefully, next trip, I'll get higher in the mountains away from the waterways and be able to enjoy the 3 weeks of my life post trip 😀

Beautiful park! I love the technical trail views. Do the sand flies only bug you in sandy areas? We don’t have sand flies or black flies here in Oregon (US) but we have brutal mosquitoes and some ticks for the next six weeks or so.

Sand flies are predominantly around the waterways in NZ. They swarm in significant numbers and crawl all over you, but you don't seem to notice their bites too much at the time. Over the next day or so, they start to itch and often don't stop for weeks. People try taking antihistamines or various lotions/oils to relieve the symptoms.
Oregan looks beautiful. Hopefully, I'll get there one day.
      Thanks for watching

That's amzing!! Could you please share the exact location of the area? It seems to be a place I haven't visited yet. I'd love to go there this upcoming summer (i'm in Queenstown)
