  • I made this video to add as a reference for those of you who are looking to buy a new "String Trimmer" aka Bushcutter!
These Maruyama's are PROFESSIONAL GRADE, you will not find these at your Home Depot or Lowes. They are expensive but worth ever penny. If you are overseas in an area where you can still find the SHINWAIWA B45 or B450 I envy you. The Maruyama though is no slouch, they last just as long if not longer and only have a slight edge as far as the power to weight ratio. Out of all the brands out there STICK TO THOSE TWO.
I will be uploading Part two in the next couple of days.

normally the shafts are 26mm and 28mm, edge in Maruyama is the low emissions and EPA compliancy, which at first shindaiwa took some time to create theirs. If there was no restrictions, I'm sure the Maruyama would be just as good or better in a non EPA compliant form. Maruyama is also less vibration and more fuel efficient than a shindaiwa - I have no knowledge on how the new shindaiwas perform. I've had kawasaki, Robin/Subaru, Maruyama, Honda, and Mitsubishi bushcutters, and I do repair as well on any small engines.

      Hi, I have Robin/Makita 414u 40.2cc, what would you suggest in a 45-50cc class, perhaps a Dolmar ms4510 3.1hp/7.9kg..?

Yeah I had some of those maryama's myself they don't last that long. And the shaft rod is connected to the brake clutch in a way that you can't take it apart. Too much trouble for repairs on Maryama's

I never knew about Shindaiwa and EPA situation. I still use my Shindaiwa C230 9 years, 7 yards a month (sideline work)three years and then 2 till this day. They were built to last. The Maruyama are great bushcutters too! What is your advice on Chinese grass or Bermuda grass? Thanks!

Guam mentality on Shindaiwa. I've tried all the Japanese brands around the 40+cc engines and the b450 is not all that trust me. I've bought it all and owned it all.

Well it is just an opinion and opinions can change. If you saw my other video I go on to correct my statement by saying that the Maruyama ended up feeling stronger, to me. Growing up here and on Rota, which are very good proving grounds for these machines, I have tried them all as well. Overall the Shindaiwa B450 has withstood the test of time. Even though I think the Maruyama B42 is stronger and starts easier, they break down faster. I have 8 of them and only 2 are still running. In the end it is a balance of production and longevity that needs to be taken into consideration when making a purchase.

Hey man, I work ok AAFB in Yigo and am wondering what you might recommend to use for the 7 foot tall grass that grows in Guam?

Hi great video. Have you ever used Kawasaki brushcutters. If you have or know someone who has please let me know how they compare to Shindaiwa and Maruyama brushcutters. Thanks
