Sony/Columbia did Flip dirty after NAMCO sued him for the Game Over Pac-Man Sample. Warner Bros also didn't promote Flip properly when he signed his record deal with them.
That’s why I think Distribution deals were the best thing to do at that time like No Limit and Cash Money had. Let the Major label distribute the music and you put together a team that handles the Marketing, Promotion and building relationships with the Radio Stations because at that point you’re in control of how the Success of your record turns out.
@@bryce6010 Yeah. I can tell Flip was going to stay The Independent route had DJ Screw never died. Him & Screw sold 100K Independent albums being The Screwed Up Clique before Flip ever even got a major deal with Sony. Scarface was even trying to sign Flip to Def Jam South like how he signed Ludacris, but Lil' Flip declined his offer. That's when Face wasn't fooling with Flip afterwards. Lil' Flip went back to being Independent like he wanted to stay because he knew The Industry was dark and he chose to keep his you know what. It's a whole other topic within itself.
@@UndeniableLove-y5u I agree. I remember that & then the T.I thing was around that time too when Face & Tip phone call went viral. I also think Flip was more so concerned about the upfront $ (advance) and Scarface probably wasn’t offering as much or wasn’t willing to match the other offers on the table. Flip stated he signed a $22M deal, if he did, he might’ve signed his rights away in exchange for that much $ depending on how many albums the deal was for. It sound like a 7 album deal to me, $3.14M advance per album but that’s just speculation though, who knows, he might’ve owned his masters after all.
@@bryce6010 I remember the $22M contract Flip & his uncle Hump signed with Columbia Records. It was a lot of money at the time too. Some professional athletes weren't even making that in 2002. lol Not sure how many albums it was on the contract. Ya gotta remember Flip was a fast worker as a rapper. He would drop double disc albums more than solo disc albums. Wesley Weston had an unmatched work ethnic. He racked up a lot of features from 2002-2005 also. David Banner - Like A Pimp Three 6 Mafia - Riding' Spinners Beyoncé - Naughty Girl Mario Winans - Never Really Was Chamillionaire - Turn It Up Yung Wun - Tear It Up Bone Crusher - Gripping The Grain 8 Ball Song Ludacris - Chicken & Beer album Flip was the guy at one point. However, haters always deny it.
@ Was this Suckerfree Record label deal? or Flip artist deal? That is true that Flip is a fast worker but the Major labels have clauses in the contract that say you can only drop one album per 6 months. They know that some artist will just drop albums to hurry and get out of the deal. Only way around that is the Cash Money/No Limit deal, then you can drop whenever you want. So artist who don’t have that type of deal can drop tapes all day long but the Major labels will count those as Mixtapes. Lil Flip definitely was the guy at one point, there is no denying that 💯
Every single gets promo when you signed to a major like he was or else we wouldn’t hear it at all like the new music he’s been releasing today. I fw Flip I’m just saying.
Did this come out before Top Back from TI ???I can’t remember but hearing it i instantly thought it was Top Back especially with him saying let me show people what to do with one of your beats …. Could shots have been fired???
