I was sad to hear your words on what is hardest is knowing people you thought were there, arent. It is true, these people get exposed when the tough times arrive. However, I will say this looking from the outside in... there are many very good people in this world. Keep your head up, and your chin strong. You will get through this, and you will be stronger and better , and wiser for it. I would say focus on your mental health, your physical health, and your job , or jobs. Work sucks but we all need them to pay the bills. Mental health is important because it is what keeps us going in life. Be positive and be optimistic , I'm already impressed with you. Because as hard as you have it, your'e doing it yourself. No one else is getting you through this but you, and as a man I give you respect for that.
Thank you so much for the kind words and taking the time to write this! I appreciate the supportiveness makes me feel like things are headed in the right direction already! Thanks again hope you have a nice day

I just found you today and subscribed, glad to meet you! In my humble opinion, you don't really need insulation on the floor because cold air doesn't rise, heat does. So I get by just fine by using a throw rug and believe me it makes a difference on your feet but will still be cold but better. I'm sure you know this but wear layers, get wool socks (wear two on each foot if need be), thermal underwear, sleeping bag, etc. helps a lot! Also another option for staying warm and that doesn't use a lot of energy is an electric blanket on low setting, put it down first, then blanket over that, lay on that with a blanket over you and you will be toasty warm even without a sleeping bag. Stay safe and warm!
Im workin part time myself its all i can work im bout a half step away from being disabled i had cancer a while back i went and got a small storage building and that was by brand new house youll get back on your feet buddy i got faith in you
I'm doing the same thing in a 93 Ford Ranger. No rent!. My job is seasonal so 5 months out of the year I'm down south in it enjoying life. Money saved not paying rent makes a huge difference.
As for the rear window problemyou can drill a hole in the back so you can pus a rod or somethin through it to open the window. You got a nice set up though
Aye my guy great job! Keep it up. You’re doing a great job. This inspired me a lot . You ever come to Oregon? Pull up to Salem. I ain’t got much but you need a warm meal and shower I gotchu.
You have no idea how much i appreciate that bro! Your a good dude! Crazy coincidence my cousin is from Portland he just visited and left Saturday he was talking about how it is out there sounds nice! Maybe il go visit one day!
Very creative! And cheap build work as much as you can and save for a better vehicle is my advice either way you doing good! New subscriber wishing you well!
spray foam but use the fire caulking sausage tubes, its fire resistant and works just like spray foam. gonna be alot better to seal up those types of gaps
For real bro go get a sheet of stirefoam insulation board probably wont work in the floor but on the sides and top it would be great you can cut it to fit anywhere
Have you thought about maybe making a tent around your bed out of those green wool army blankets? Wool is an insulator and your heating a smaller area then the whole cap. Good Luck and stay warm!
If you've got more true friends than fingers on one hand, you're including some people who aren't really your friend. On the camper shell rebuild, duct tape is your friend for sealing holes, and caulking too. It also makes a pretty good glue for wood joints. On the rear window dropping, use vice-grips or a clamp on the rod part padded by a piece of leather so you don't scratch the shaft. A stick to prop it up can fall out if the wind gets up and lifts it. If possible, cover everything metal in the bed of the truck with something that insulates; even carpet will help. There's a huge amount of conductive heat transfer there. And I'm sure you're careful but you've got a very flammable home, don't forget that. That's often how it goes with improvised builds. I don't know your work skillset, but I'm in upstate SC and the economy here is booming as it is in a few parts of NC while many other areas here are doornail-dead economically. Not so easy finding an affordable place to stay where things are good though. Free parking- even overnight- is practically non-existant here and most campsites cost as much as rent if you can find an open spot. It's still somewhat cheap to live here otherwise but wages can be low along with that. Certain skills pay big here if you can get networked in to them. Might be better to stay with 'the devil you know' till you get better off especially if you have free parking going for you. Stay warm and keep trying, sooner or later things have to get good for you again as long as you're ready to take advantage of them.
Well that's a coincidence! It was a temping idea for sure, even to just see the ocean again in the end it was a safer idea to stay at the moment but it would be nice to have a new opportunity.
Get a big box, like a refrigerator box,cut it down, and put it on tour wood frame bed- with you and a sleeping bag inside the cardboard should be plenty warm.
if you can find free pallet wood you can do a lot its not recommended but it goes a long way, if you were around kansas i have sheet metal that would work for the roof and excess. i built mine all for free with salvaged wood from here and there and metal ill be posting a video of it this week might give you some ideas. i have a 99 dodge ram 1500 though little diff then the Toyota your running i could draw you some plans if you shoot me measurements
@ashfox07 Appreciate the sentiment! I want to rework this project and do it right. Once I get the materials sorted and maybe when it warms up again. I will definitely check out your video and see what you got cooking!
Iknow it's not in everyone budget but I highly recommend a diesel heater for small spaces like that, it is a much more comfortable dry heat and as long as you have a rechargeable battery source it could be a much better solution than the propane heater in terms of running cost. I just got one for my pathfinder and I plan on doing a month-long trip to Washington and although my pathfinder isn't insulated it keeps me very warm at like a 85-degree temp.

You're lucky if you got 1 or 2 people
I don't know if it's me or the people lol
this is serious business also. you need to be able to depend on that rig with your life. so build it with that in mind. what happens if a foot of snow falls and your stuck in place for a week off the beaten path and your tire pops off the bead because you slid into a curb that you couldnt see because it was covered in snow. use your noodle.
I'm definitely a lot less prepared then I'd like to be!
