Let's do everything in the left brackets first .. working left to right [(3 - 11) + 2(5 - 6)] / (8 - 10) (3 - 11) = - 8 comes first [ - 8 + 2(5 - 6)] / (8 - 10) then (5 - 6) = -1 [ - 8 + 2 x -1 ] / (8 - 10) now we can do 2 x - 1 = - 2 [ - 8 + - 2 ] / (8 - 10) and then the + - becomes - [ - 8 - 2 ] / (8 - 10) making - 8 - 2 = - 10 - 10 / (8 - 10) and now we can do 8 - 10 in the other bracket - 10 / - 2 and minus / minus gives us a plus answer 5
